Rating: Summary: So, you think you're "Livin' On the Edge"... Review: I did not want this book to end!!! If you are a true Aerosmith fan then this is a "must read" book. This is the closest that us "regular" folks will ever get to actually sitting down with the band and rappin' with them. Listen as you read, you can hear their voices. It doesn't paint everything all pretty and shiny. It gets to the core of what these 5 guys had to go through to make their dreams come true. It has highs and lows, victories and defeats, and, fortunately for us fans, more victories. Don't waste your time with Cyrinda's bitter "Dream On" - she was but a miniscule part of Steven Tyler's life and she was NOT a member of Aerosmith. Hey, time's a wastin' - quit reading this review, grab a copy of "Walk This Way," and get ready for one helluva ride!!!
Rating: Summary: Incredible! Review: This was a great read! The ride they took you on was one of ups and downs with the bad. So much of Aerosmiths history is right here! I loved it. What I really enjoyed was it talked about how some of their big hits were written and the story behind it.
Rating: Summary: A must read book for TRUE Aerosmith fans Review: A well written book in which an Aerosmith fan can grasp a true understanding of what the greatest rock-n-roll band of all times is all about. The book goes in depth about details such as how the band got started, conflicts among the band members, to their personal life struggles, and how the trademark of Steven Tyler's scarf's around the microphone got started. Bottom line, after reading this book you will end up loving Aerosmith even more, since you will now have an up close and in your face experience of solid facts told by the band members themselves.
Rating: Summary: One F.I.N.E. book Review: The book to end all books for Aerosmith fans. You can't get any closer to the band without actually stepping into their lives. You'll never look at these guys the same after you've read their story. It's more info than you ever needed to know about the Boston bad boys. Don't even think you know everything about Aerosmith unless you've read this book cover to cover. Filled with enough pictures to satisfy your eyes, the info in this book with satisfy your head. It's funny, dramatic, sometimes even disgusting. It's not written in the style of a novel. It's constantly switching narrators, from the guys in the band to their closest friends and back again. Wanna know about their lives before Aerosmith? Read the book. Wanna know how they named the band? Read the book. Wanna know why they really split up, and why they really got back together? Read the book. Wanna know about the first time Steven Tyler got laid? Read the book. 30 times more information than a "Behind the Music" special. This is the Aerosmith bible.
Rating: Summary: The garage band of all garage bands Review: This book was impossible to put down! It is a smoothly written book that completely engulfs you in the Aerosmith story. As you read, you are amazed at the determination Steven Tyler has in chasing his dream of becoming a rock god. It was fascinating to see how Aerosmith was pieced together and doubly fascinating to see the band evolve and survive throughout their career. As much as their lives were entwined in drugs and booze, the band members hold a strong grasp on a lot of memories. This band has jumped a lot of ... hurdles and this book shows us everyone one! I highly recommend this great read!
Rating: Summary: A rock autobiography that doesn't read like an ad! Review: Consisting mostly of quotes from band members, managers, friends, family etc. I feared this book would be a sappy advertisement for the post-rehab rockers. Fear not, this is the Toxic Twins in full effect, and it doesn't seem they are holding anything back. If you are interested in the history of this rock 'n' roll icon, this book is for you.Well compiled, informative and a helluva lotta fun. 'nuff said.
Rating: Summary: Can you wrap you mind around mind-boggling drug consumption? Review: The years that brought them to the destiny of becoming America's best rock band and almost kill all that with their time-honored rock band drug use and alcoholism that went on for over two decades was mind-boggling! They destroyed their lives for some time only to be brought back in amazing drug and alcohol recovery stories from each member of the band. Destiny made them clean up their acts and they once showed the world was keeps Aerosmith fans coming back for more!
Rating: Summary: Aero-rocking-stuff! Review: 'Walk this way' is a raw and unimaginable story of very close and extremely personal accounts of Aerosmith. The early years that saw a group emerge and finally break through, amidst heavy drugs and isolation, keeps the 500 odd pages turning. It is extremely detailed and at times calls for more patience to sit through the first 150 pages or so, but even still, this is a story that really brings light to the lives of these rock stars and the pain, frustration and determination that plays such a huge part in each of the band member's lives. Steven and the other members of Aerosmith have their own say in the book and keeps the story interesting to read from different voices (there are other guest 'speakers' which also add to this). This book has everything an Aerosmith fan needs to know. The complete and honest expressions of Aerosmith and their lives, family, drugs and always, rock and roll! Aerosmith have always been a favourite of mine, and I recommend this book to anyone out there who wants to hear everything and anything about what went on in the life of an immensely successful rock group.
Rating: Summary: Talk About A Bumpy Ride... Review: This book should have been titled, "Drugged Up and Can't Walk." Told in interviews with all of Aerosmith, their girlfriends, wives, ex-wives and others, this book will knock your brains out. After Joe Perry and Elyssa were divorced, the man woke up and eventually went on to make great music with Steven and have happiness with his now wife Billie. I have new respect for rock bands. If any band lasts more than 10 years you know they went through hell to stay together. For the first 20 years of their lives, Aerosmith were drugged to their teeth. But for the Grace of God they are still alive. What I liked about this book as it is told in their own words. I liked reading how they wrote their songs and what it took to get a song written, all their hardships when they were first together and the craziness they survived. I have a renewed respect for all rock and roll bands after reading this book. The grueling schedule of touring, the sacrifices they make just to put on a show for the masses is unbelievable. I was thrilled to read that they are now off drugs. I went out and bought a tape of their greatest hits just to hear the music I read about. The book is full of pictures which I kept referring to as I read the book. I loved the book and if you love rock and roll you've got to, got to, got to read this one!
Rating: Summary: Suffers from not enough editing. Review: As a big fan of Aerosmith since 1976, I found this book to be VERY informative, although a bit long. To get to the first 150 pages was a chore, simply because: Do I really want to read about the life of management ? OR the disk jockey that first played MAMA KIN in 1973 when Aerosmith was not known ? Not especially.....After that, we start to learn about all the record releases, life on the road, and the troubles with drugs and personalities within the band. VERY good reading. But it takes to long to get to that point. Also, I was so sick of reading WE DID SOME BLOW, WE GOT SOME BLOW, BLOW, BLOW, BLOW...OK ! I know the focal point of the story is the battle with drugs and how they conquered them, but ENOUGH ALREADY ! Ok...With that said....YES - It is an informative book and interesting, it just needed to be edited by about 100 pages. I would recommend this to any DIE-HARD Aerosmith fan who enjoyed (and knows) their releases of the 70s..BUT, for the fans who only liked them from 1987s PERMANENT VACATION and on, BEWARE...Running at 524 pages long, it discusses THOSE releases starting at page 425 (or so). A very good book, but not excellent. 3 1/2 stars, to be exact.
