Rating: Summary: Really good encyclopedia Review: I read about this book in People Magazine and bought a copy and am really glad I did. The Stooges are hilarious and so is this book, which sorts everything into alphabetical order. For example, if you look up "Niagara Falls" this book tells you all the words to the famous Niagara Falls routine. There's plenty of other stuff, too.
Rating: Summary: The reader from New York was right on the money. Review: I received this book for Christmas and was really looking forward to it . . . until I started reading it. I won't reiterate the points made by the reviewer from New York (about two or three reviews down from this one), but I will say that he hit almost every point right on the money. This is not an encyclopedia as much as it is a hard cover fanzine. There is nothing informative here. Watch a Stooge short, jot down odd names or events, and viola you have the Three Stooges Encyclopedia. The reproduced stills have been reproduced ad nauseum in countless other books. You learn nothing about the boys, their careers, or the times in which the films were produced. I would find this type of information more important than seeing a definition of Brighto. The Stooges were too important a comedy force to be glossed over in a book like this. And as a side note, I find it rather sad that the author and his brother cannot let the book stand on its own merit, but rather have to write their own reviews after getting a negative one. As a final note, I once again agree with the New York reviewer that the Three Stooges Scrapbook is by far THE definative "encyclopedia" on the career of the greatest comedy team of all time.
Rating: Summary: Howard Stern's favorite book Review: I thought this was a great book. The beginning is a biography of the Stooges Career, plus a short bio of each of the 3, or 6, stooges. Then the encyclopedia part. If the Stooges said it, met it, ate it, were hit by it, it's in this encylcopedia. It even gives 100 of Moe's insults. Then it has all 190 shorts and the 6 films in the back with a short overview, third stooge, and their nemesis. This is a great book and should be in the bookshelf of any Stooge Fan. Nyuk, Nyuk, Nyuk!!!

Rating: Summary: The *BEST* 3-Stooge guide I've ever seen Review: I'm a stickler for details about the world's *best* comedy team and this book has just about every detail any Stooge fan could desire. There's even biographies of the bit players and sections like "how the sound fx were created".
Rating: Summary: The Stooge book I've always dreamed of owning! Review: I've been in love with the Three Stooges ever since age five, when my dad would wake me up early Saturday mornings, cook me some nice, hot oatmeal, and watch two hours of the Three Stooges with me. At first, I loved watching my dad watch the Stooges more than I loved the Stooges themselves; I'd never seen a grown man laugh like that! But I quickly learned to appreciate the brilliance of the greatest team in comedy history, realizing that what the Stooges said was every bit as funny as what they did. Strange as it sounds, I learned that there was as much beauty in Stooge language as there was in Stooge slapstick. This book is the culmination of a lifelong dream. I'd always yearned for a book that focused on the things that made me LAUGH in Stooge films, things like the names ("Ivan Bustoff"), the places ("Niagra Falls") jokes, songs and gags. There have always been a few Stooge books out there that concentrated on Stooge biographies and history, but they always seemed scrawny on what counts most: the humor. Where was one to turn to discover the exact words to the famous "Maharaja" routine, or the formula for the Stooges' "Fountain of Youth" potion? Where was one to find the recipe for "Burned toast and a rotten egg," or to remember the Stooges' campaign slogans for presidential candidate Hammond Egger? For too long, no such book existed. My mission in writing "The Official Three Stooges Encyclopedia" was not to provide an exhaustive history or biography of the Stooges, but rather to provide a fun, warm and loving rundown of all the people, places, songs, gags and routines that made the Stooges comedy immortals...and which make people laugh. I tinkered with the idea of doing hard research on the lives and times of the boys, but realized two things: first, this would create a book that ran more than 800 pages; second, that's not the book I'd been seeking so desperately since childhood. I wanted to celebrate the beauty of Stooge HUMOR, and I believe I've succeeded in a manner that would make Moe, Larry, Curly, Shemp, Joe and Curly Joe very proud. Nonetheless, no Stooge encylopedia would be complete without some wonderful history, so here's how the book is arranged: Part One focuses on the Stooges themselves, providing individual biographies and a look at their careers, from the early days on vaudeville through the Columbia years to the ends of their lives. It also features a look at the great supporting players in Stooge films such as Vernon Dent, Christine MacIntyre and Emil Sitka. Part Two is the MEAT of the book, packing a whopping 1,400 entries for nearly every person, place, routine, gag, song, etc. that appeared in Stooge films. Ever wanted to remember the words to the famous alphabet song the Stooges sing to a classroom of college coeds? Just look under "Swinging the Alphabet," and the lyrics are all there! Remember the name "K.O. Bossy" but can't place him? Just look under the "K's" and you'll find him. Parts Three and Four are handy indexes which group the book's entries by film and by category. For example, look under the heading "Girlfriends" and you'll find an exhaustive list of every set of beautiful dames the Stooges ever wooed, from "Aggie, Maggie and Baggy" to "Corabell, Dorabell and Florabell." Or look under your favorite film, say "Three Dumb Clucks," and you'll find all the entries in the book that pertain to that film. Part Five provides a brief synopsis of each of the films the Stooges made, along with that film's key gag, an incredibly handy reference for remembering all those films you just can't place! I'd love to correspond with any Stooge fans! Just drop me a line at RK41144@aol.com, and I'll get right back to you. Don't remember what "41144" stands for? Just open "The Official Three Stooges Encyclopedia" and look it up, bunionhead! Yours in slapstick, Robert Kurson
Rating: Summary: A must for true stooge fanatics! Review: If you've ever wondered, as I have, what the exact ingredients in an "Eenar Frappini" are, or what the real rendition of the "Maha" routine is, then this book is an absolute must! Now I know why my frappini always tasted so flat.....I was missing the correct amount of piddledictatar!
Rating: Summary: The Official Three Stooges Encyclopedia Review: Informative, entertaining and insightful. A very original presentation of the most original comedy team ever. Readers are given new insight into each Stooge and a sense of where their genius originated. Especially interesting are the well written accounts of their personal idiosyncrasies as well as their relationships with each other. Time flies when reading this.

Rating: Summary: This book is a must-own for any Stooge fan Review: My brother and I grew up watching and imitating the Stooges 'cause they were the best sibling role models ever (y'know, when they stuck together, they beat Nazis and gangsters and when they fought each other they looked like, well, stooges). After totally digging this guide, I gave him a copy as a Hanukkah gift. He's driving his wife nuts with his constant reading aloud from it. It's amazingly comprehensive and written with the love of a true fan. Larry, Curly, Moe, and especially Shemp, deserved this book! I can't watch their shorts without this encyclopedia at my side.
