Rating: Summary: ONCE BLIND, NOW I SO PAINFULLY SEE Review: What can I say? Reading this book really opened my eyes to COMPLETE Nirvana story, not just the pink fluff the media usually throws at us. It was a little hard to take some of the details of Kurt's life because he really could be any one of us. It gave me a lot to think about. I really do reccomend this for anyone who wants to read and speak... speak the truth.
Rating: Summary: The Nirvana Bible Review: This book gives 90% of everything you would want to know about Nirvana except for 10% of the personal information which is to personal. It was well writen and very entertaining. From Kurt Cobain as a kid up to his death.
Rating: Summary: This book rules Review: This book is simply awesome. A must have for even the smallest nirvana fans. Rare pictures, in depth interviews and articles on the band, the suroundings they had during the tours and the demise at the end with the dead of indie hero cobain. Delivers a punch into the seattle "grunge" theme and reveals the truth with no doors left closed.
Rating: Summary: Kurt was just a punk rocker!!! Review: Other books I have read made Kurt to be anything from a junkie or a no talent-lucky punk from seattle. It may be true if one just looked on the outside, and if you only listen to the one sided journalists but in my eyes and in the eyes of many others Kurt was a kid like the rest of us but he found a way to escape the pain of todays reality. Through his music he found a way out of our simple closeminded world. Unfortunatley that sense of freedom didn't last for him. Come as You are at the time of its release was just a biography about a larger then life band. After Kurt's death though it became a personal journal of sorts. A way to understand how someone who seemed to have everything could have done what he did. I am in no way condoning what he did. But in all of our hearts we can understand and pray he is at peace.
Rating: Summary: the best book on Nirvana so far Review: COME AS YOU ARE is one of the better books I've read on a rock band, though certainly not the best. I know a lot of readers say it's brilliantly written but I think that's stretching things a bit. It's most interesting in detailing what the band went through to become what they became. I was disappointed that it didn't dwell in more depth on the music...little of what Michael A. wrote in that respect struck me as having much insight or depth. Still, this is the best of the bunch so far. I appreciated the fact that it didn't center exclusively on Cobain, though obviously he must be the focal point of any study of the band.
Rating: Summary: Good Review: Quite good, about as objective as an authorized bio of people involved in some controversial episodes is going to get. Spends enough time talking about the music and has some neat revelations of original lyrics and things like that.
Rating: Summary: Kurdt Kobain Review: This book shows why Nirvana was definetly the greatest punk/pop/rock/metal group ever in the history of the world.Even though as the book says Kurdt never wanted to be a role model he is and always will be the only person who a too huge amount of people will ever look up to.When the book deals with his depression, which a lot of kids deal with,it gives insite to his world and the way he lived it.Kurt is my best friend and even though its sad to admit will probably the only person I will ever look up too. Great book but it shouldn't be read by those who know not what it means.
Rating: Summary: my FAVORITE book Review: this was truely the best book i have EVER read. i was starting to drift away from nirvana & was going on a trip to florida, needing a book to read. as soon as i read the first line i couldn't put it down. i tell everyone to read it. my boyfriend Jim is reading it my copy right now(w/the final chapter)! it's his fav. book also. if you get the chance you HAVE to read it, it's worth staying up late & having no social life for however long it takes to finish. when i got to the end i actually started crying!! i had to keep stopping because i was balling so hard. it was about 2 or 3 in the morning & i woke up my sister(her room is next to mine). don't get scared off by the thickness. Once again-you MUST read this book.
Rating: Summary: From an Aberdeen person and NiRVANA fan --Get it. Review: One of the best books about Kurt and NiRVANA. Only a little bit of Aberdeen Bashing..<Snicker> It has a lot more detail and insight into the bands' life than other books.
Rating: Summary: How to be a punk rock star. Review: I particularly, enjoyed this "How to be a punk rock star" Manual. It shows that being a punk rock star is relatively easy. Just take a normal young boy( being you) set him up in a dysfunctional life style, like a divorced family. Then That boy, must become disattacted from the rest of the world. Get that boy a guitar. Let the dysfunctionality of his life ensue as he grows up. Then hes got to meet some other underpriviledged musicians. Give them a place to play everynight. Add some drugs,of course. Then you will have a bunch of druged up punk rockers. You need one more thing. You need a major music corporation to sign them up and expliot them. Thats all it takes. oh, and make sure the little boy(you) kills himself before people stop buying the albums. This book seems to have alot of honesty, and really thats what you want in a Biography. It has the good and the bad.
