Rating: Summary: A wonderfully well written, insightful bio. Review: I have been a big Nirvana fan for my whole life and I've read a couple Nirvana biographys and none were as detailed, insightful and in-depth as "Come As You Are". Off the top of my head I can't remember reading a Nirvana biography that said so much about the history of the band and of the band member's lives. So, if you're a big fan of Nirvana or have just recently discovered they're tasteful (and sometimes gratuitus) music, I suggest reading this book to learn all that you can on Nirvana.
Rating: Summary: The Nirvana Bible Review: If you only own 1 Nirvana book make it this one.
Rating: Summary: Come as You Are: One of the best biographies of Nirvana Review: Come as You Are not only tells about the band, but everything that led up to the start of Nirvana. It shows the background of all the members and tells their story. It is a very informational book and a must read for all Nirvana fans.
Rating: Summary: One of the best Bio's ever written Review: I have been a major fan of Nirvana ever since they released Nevermind, but up until i read this book, i never knew what had happened with the band. This book was amazing, it gave you an in-depth look into what made Nirvana, with alot of input from Kurt, Chris, Dave and just about anyone who had anything to do with Nirvana throughout the years. I have never read a bio quite like this, if you are interested in music, not just alternative or Nirvana, you should definitly read this book to see what bands have to go through to make it big.
Rating: Summary: a great book that focuses not only on kurt Review: don't get me wrong, kurt ruled, but there was a lot more people involved in nirvana. this talkes about everything that had to do with nirvana.
Rating: Summary: A truely fascinating look at one most influential bands..... Review: I have now read this book four times. Each time I get a new feeling about the history of the band. After reading the book I noticed alot of comparisons between the members of the band and myself. Besides the fact that Kurt Cobain is dead yada yada, the book gives a great feeling of what it is like to be in a band. I'm in a band and I can appreciate what Nirvana went through to just get a song on the radio, because I too have experienced the "road life" etc. As we do our tours from little city to little city I keep the book right by my bunk, so I can pick it up when times are hard, and get inspired to continue going on. As far as the book is concerned I feel that it is very honest about band conflicts, the problems with sucess, and dealing with people who only use you as a cash grab. Whether you're in a band, want to be in a band (but have no hope in hell of learning to play an instrument), or just like the group pick this one up because it is truely phenominal!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Come As You Are is the most in-depth book of Nirvana written Review: Come As You Are is the upclose, intimate story of Nirvana, with exclusive in-depth interviews with bandmembers Kurt Cobain, Chris Novoselic, and Dave Grohl, as well as friends, relatives, former bandmembers, and associates. Come As You Are tells the story of Nirvana as no other book does, candidly and firsthand. Come As You Are is by far the most intimate look ever at one of the most significant popular-music groups to emerge in years
Rating: Summary: An insightful biography of this global phenomenon. Review: This book looked into Nirvana from the inside out. It recognized the outside view, but focused on how the band reacted to different events. Michael Azerrad also didn't just take the word of the members of Nirvana. By interviewing former band members, family members, and friends and enemies, it painted a picture for the reader to look at, not just reporting a story from the mouth of the band. That leaves the reader to pick out different details and interpret the "picture" their own way
Rating: Summary: the whole story Review: As a true music lover i can say this book is pretty good at the beging and the end. Though in the middle it can be a little bland with all the statistics. But this is a good buy i highly recamend it i was not a real big nirvana fan when i bought this book but it changed my whole perception on kurt and the music he wrote. Whether your a nirvana fan or not i recomend this book if you like music in general.
Rating: Summary: "about a band" Review: This book is buy the far the best book of Nirvana you can find. From starting out in Aberdeen Washington to the being the greatest band ever. Michael Azerrad (author) tells the true story of Nirvana through interviews, photos, and early lyrics sheets. The band themselves (even Kurt) read this book and liked it so that's how you can tell these facts are real. First Azerrad talks about the early day with Aaron Burckhard, Dan Peters, Chad Channing, Dale Crover, and then eventually Dave Grohl. He also talks about the difficult process it took to record Nevermind and In Utero. Through Kurt meeting Courtney, Krist meeting Shelli, to Dave meeting Kurt and Krist. This book got everything you need to know about Nirvana. This book now includes a new chapter about Kurt's death and where the book left off. The beauty of this book is that Michael didn't get this information from Courtney so you know that all of this is true. All the information is through interviews and the people who were really there. This book is the book you need for Nirvana. This book is better from Charles Cross's "heavier than heaven", or "Nirvana: the day-by-day eyewitness chronicle" by Carrie Borzillo. I haven't read the new book "The Chosen Rejects" by Troy Smith and Kurt Thomas, but I still know this book is way better than any of those books. For any Nirvana fan, you will not be disappointed.
