Summary: Most Honest Biography On Kurt Donald Cobain!!
Review: This book is my favorite books on Kurt and Nirvana. There are a lot of quotes which i really enjoyed and the pictures. The book starts off from when kurt was born and he was a very hyperactive young boy. So, his mom would give him ritalin which would calm him down. I feel that the ritalin started kurt off on the wrong foot. With "Natural Selection" when your young and givin drugs you'll eventually grow up to be doing much harder drugs. And i found that very depressing. This book also explains in great detail on how Kurt meet Krist and the many drummers that they went thru before they met Dave. Then the sucess which was the beginning of the end. Kurt wasn't up to being a "spokesperson of a generation" it was too much for him. The Author Azzerad actually talked to Kurt and asked him a lot of great questions.. I feel that this is the only book that you'll ever need cause it explains everything.. and Nirvana is the greatest band of all times...they'll never get forgotten because they were the best!! R.I.P. Kurt Donald Cobain (1967-1994)

Summary: Come As You Are: Awesome Book
Review: I went out and bought this book hoping to find out some information on NIRVANA/Kurt Cobain, needless to say that's just what I found when I read Come As You Are:The Story Of Nirvana. This book is one of the most interesting books on NIRVANA I've ever read, I recomend this book to ALL NIRVANA FANS or to anyone interested in Kurt.
This book starts off by telling you about Kurt's life as a child and then how he formed the band, and about being on tour and everything in between. This book tells a lot of stories about NIRVANA and Kurt, and there is a huge amount of actual conversation between Kurt, Krist, and Dave. This book really made me feel like I was actually there, the book is so well-written that you can get a really clear image of what is going on. Not to mention there are a ton of pictures in this book, I would say this is one of the best NIRVANA books I've ever read. A must have for anyone who likes NIRVANA or Kurt.

Summary: A captivating tale of Kurt Cobain...
Review: I read this book, Come As You Are: The Story of Nirvana, awhile ago, and reread it again because of my enjoyment of it the first time, and it didn't let me down the second time around. The book kept my interest and gave me a new perspective on a few parts of Nirvana and Kurt. I have read other books, such as "Who Killed Kurt Cobain?" and "Kurt Cobain" and a few other shorter biographies and compiled books. I know a great amount about our legeng, Kurt Donald Cobain, and yet I still love reading his biographies over and over, especially Come As You Are. CAYA takes you through Kurt's life, starting with Day 1. It leads you right through about 1993, very early 1994, and the new editions have an after-chapter about his death, although not nearly as much about the ending as we would have liked. A good thing about the book is the quotes. The biographer wrote the book based on a series of many interviews with Kurt, so Kurt says a lot. A possibilty of biasism is because of one theory. A bad review was written about Kurt and Courtney in Vanity Fair magazine, leading to trials about custody and having their new baby, Frances Bean, taken temporarily away from them, and making them turn in weekly urine tests. Kurt wanted to quickly create a "good, nice" buzz about him so the aftermath of the article would vanish. They wanted to protect Courtney's name, so they hired a biographer. The book may try to make Courtney seem better than she is. Read "Who Killed Kurt Cobain?" afterwards and compare the Courtney in each book. For new Kurt fans, or un-Kurt-ly-educated fans, I would suggest this book, it is simple to read and extremely captivating.

Summary: The best on Nirvana
Review: This book is exactly what it says it is, the story of Nirvana. Where many books state half-truths, generalize about everything, and make out Kurt Cobain to be Nirvana, this book tells it like it truly was.

Nirvana wasn't just Cobain, Grohl and Novoselic. Many people were involved to make it happen. Drummers, bassists, and guitarists that were or could have been all have their say. This book is as honest as you can get, right from the horse's mouth (that is partially dictated by Kurt Dave, Krist and other former members). It tells the truth behind the insane drug rumors, and all. From the day Kurt Donald Cobain was born until the day he died this book tells the truth and nothing but. It is a book that you can read 20 times and still appreciate and learn. Sick of the generalization of the Seattle movement? Find out how it really was in Come As You Are. The Nirvana Story.

Summary: Thicker info than "Heavier Than Heaven"
Review: I finished reading this book just a couple of weeks ago, & I convinced myself that this would be the best book I would read on Nirvana (and/or K. Cobain). It was written before K's suicide in 1994, & he actually sat down with the band. It has quotes from several people affiliated with K, not just Courtney. It obviously didn't dwell on his suicide, but the final chapter was well written.

Being a fan of Courtney (and Hole), I am aware that she lies. & I recommend this book over HTH because the facts are given to you right then & there, & they don't drag out. The author obviously has a good sense of humour, like K did, & the book made me laugh.

I wanted to read a book on K that would give me details/facts about his life, but I also would rather be entertained with a smile, than trying to hold back tears.

In HTH, Cross makes K out to be only some kid from a rural town who was just miserable & a terrible influence. K was creative & intelligent... & CAYA depicts that.

If you read only one book on K, or even Nirvana in general... which Azzerad does a fine job of doing... this is it.

Summary: nah...
Review: i'm a huge nirvana/cobain fan, and i think i've read every book out there writen on them/him. this was one of the most boring and inaccurate ones, by far. it especially paints a dull and wimpy picture of dave grohl who's anything but. it also depicts a false, i.e., flattering, picture of courtney that's quite annoying. i was bored to tears reading this book. it leaves a lot to be desired. although "heavier than heaven" also contains a lot of courtney schmoozing and inaccurate info, it makes a far better and more entertaining read. you're better off getting that instead of this one.

Summary: BALANCED OVERVIEW
Review: Good all around intro book about the indie band Nirvana. Taking the book at face value, I believe the author has presented the facts truthfully. The author who also contributes to the Rolling Stone Magazine claims to have followed them on some tours and appears to have been on good terms with the band members. He shows evidence of cross checking stories and sources and notes discrepancies when they appear. I believe its one of the better and fair judgments of this band. Although the band's career follows the usual, 'struggle, hard times, brief honeymoon period, then indulgent self-destructive period", the book portrays the events that were going on in the life of Nirvana's leader Kurt Cobain. I would say this book's strongest attribute is portraying the personal struggle of Kurt Cobain on a roller coaster ride of fame with Nirvana.
A weak point may be that the songs origins and lyrics are not explained well. It may be because Kurt Cobain many times wrote the lyrics almost impromptu just before a recording session almost at a stream of consciousness rate. Maybe the origin of the songs has no deep meaning or origins. Besides being an interesting story, the other highlights are the bands relationship with corporate bands, boomer music, heavy metal bands, and other Northwest so called 'Grunge' bands. I would definably recommend this book as an overview of Nirvana. I know some die-hard fans have blamed Courtney or the corporate record company feverish touring dates for Kurt's eventual suicide, but as the book amply points out Kurt and the band had some problems all stages of notoriety, and Kurt as the Band's leader was a time bomb waiting to explode. I think the book portrays the best
non judgemental view of Kurt Cobain's life. The particular edition I read include a final chapter added to include some
info on Kurts farewell note and service.
