Rating: Summary: Hope and Possibilities Review: A Brilliant Madness is helping me through some ofthe saddest days of
my life. I fell in love with someone who is bipolar, and our
relationship is currently on a fast track to oblivion. Reading this book is helping me understand the illness as
well as feelings of those who suffer from the disease and
those who love them. There are no easy answers. The frankness
with which Patty Duke discusses her life and the
facts in alternating chapters are helping me focus on what is
possible in a relationship and what the limitations may be.
Thank you so much for your insights.

Rating: Summary: It was like reading a book about myself Review: At age 21 I was diagnosed with bi-polar and I live with many of the struggle that Patty Duke addresses in the book. It was thrilling to know that I am not the only one that goes through these trials. It was very well written and supplied a superb blend of personal experience and professional knowledge. i highly recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: A BRILLIANT PIECE OF WRITING Review: For over 3 years I had been diagnosed with different forms of depressions but I knew there had to be something the doc was missing. I originally began reading this book because I was a fan of Patty Duke but then as I read I began to see myself in her actions. In one paragraph I found the description of a "rapid cycler" and I realized I was holding my breath and thinking oh my goodness that's me!!! I called my doc that day and he placed me on the proper medication. I still have my ups and downs but I am much better. If I hadn't read her book I may have never found out I was bipolar.

Rating: Summary: I need to read it again more carefully, this time. Review: Good going, ground-breaker
Rating: Summary: Takes you inside the subject matter. Review: Great book. It's the first my bright, bi-polar daughter read voluntarily after her counselor lent her an autographed copy. It meant a lot to her, and we are now in search of a hard back copy. Email me at mollyanne@worldnet.att.net. Thanks so much.

Rating: Summary: Incredible, informative and easy to read and understand. Review: Having a child with manic depressive illness was an unexpected event to say the least. This book put all I needed to know about being bi-polar into an easy to read and understand read. I run a support group for parents of bi-polar children and I advise them all to read this book before deciding if their child does or dosen't have this illness..They are usually all amazed how similar their children are to this book.
Rating: Summary: Quite enjoyable and informative Review: I enjoyed this book quite a bit- it's engaging, entertaining, and informative. The quality of writing isn't as good as that of the finest mental illness memoirs, like "An Unquiet Mind" and "Girl, Interrupted", but it's definitely well worth reading. One intriguing point is that there might be some relationship between mania and Patty's acting skill. In other words, bipolar disorder may confer some advantages to the afflicted, in spite of some of its dreadful consequences. Avery Z. Conner, author of "Fevers of the Mind".
