Rating: Summary: Such a brilliant book! Review: After reading so many positive reviews on this book and becoming more and more of a Bruce Campbell fan by the minute, I decided it was time that I bought a copy off Amazon for Christmas. As I read more and more of it I found it so hard to put down, it's just such a brilliant book. The book covers Bruce's childhood, and his teenager years, through to his adult years and coming into contact with Sam Raimi, then the process of The Evil Dead movies and the rest of his life. The book wasn't boring one little bit, and had tonnes of humour in it, something that every autobiography needs. You feel horrible because you know he's not a rich, snobbish actor like most, you know he's actually someone that works very hard at what he does and deserves recognition and respect.
Bruce is now one of my favourite actors and a very good writer indeed. I highly recommending reading this, it inspires everyone to follow thier dreams and never give up hope. It inspired me in a way I never thought possible, I only hope that you read it and see for yourself.
You know the book has to be good, it's rated 5 stars by almost 200 and more readers! The only thing that I didn't like about it was that it ended!
So what are you waiting for!? hurry up and buy it already!
I wish you many happy hours and memorys of reading this and hope that you enjoy reading his book as much as I did.
Rating: Summary: From Bore to Gore and More Review: When people hear the word "Movie Star" they think of people like Johnny Depp, Uma Thurman & David Hasselhoff, but there is more to a movie star than just how many films they've been in or how sexy they are because none of them even compare to Bruce Campbell.
The autobiography of Bruce Campbell entitled If Chins Could Kill: Confessions of a B-Movie Actor shows that there is much more to becoming a star than actually being one. This Michigan born actor tell his life story of how he started off like an average kid, fighting with his two brothers, trying to understand the thought process of the opposite sex & just wanting to have fun. Then one day he meets a boy who will change his life forever...Sam Raimi. Sam got Bruce into making little home made movies using a Super-8 Camera. As Bruce's life continues on we see what kind of perils it took to go from Super-8 to 16MM and then to the coveted 35MM.
Bruce shot up to cult stardom by appearing in Sam Raimi's classic The Evil Dead. From then on, Bruce's life was never the same. He grew to become the star of a TV series called The Adventures of Brisco County Jr. later on went to star in Xena and Hercules. Bruce Campbell truly is master of the Cult films and is one of the most underrated actors in Hollywood.
I recommend this book to anyone who wants try and break into films. It shows the trials and tribulations of a star that is constantly rising and falling only to rise again.
A little note about the book. Bruce does go into details on certain things. Not as much a one would hope on other things but he certainly is a good storyteller. He is currently writing a new book entitled Making Love the Bruce Campbell Way.
Rating: Summary: Chins can indeed kill Review: Being a fan of Bruce Campbell's work I couldn't help but go out a pick up a copy of this. An autobiography from one of my most respected actors was just what I needed to put a smile on my face. I guess I could say that if you plan to make it into Hollywood (somehow), then you really need to pick up a copy of this. If you plan to never make it into Hollywood, then you really need to pick up a copy of this. While a good chunk of it settles on the era of creating the Evil Dead movie,(one of my favorites) it shows just how a couple of nobodies can create a legendary film. Bruce gives all the ways to create cool special effects without the aid of a computer (I Hate CGI!) and even gives you the recipe on how to make fake blood among other neat things. This book has it all. His childhood is definitely something that brought constant smiles to my face. You WILL find yourself laughing as you read this book, and you WILL find yourself able to relate to some of the things that happened to him. It just goes to show that even the Average Joe can become someone, an actor, a comedian, a security guard, or even [insert job here], can affect so many people. I'm in high school and I read this book as part of "independent reading" for my English class. While not many of my fellow students knew who he was, my English teacher cracked a smile when she saw the book, and even a substitute for the class started a Bruce Campbell conversation with me. Whether we realize it or not, Bruce affects a lot of people and this book only proves that. This was certainly an excellent read, no complaints. It truly deserves the 5 stars. Buy now!
Rating: Summary: 6 Degrees of Bruce Campbell Review: If your a fan of Bruce Campbell this book probably deserves 5 stars. However, if your just a movie buff who has perhaps seen or heard of Bruce one or two times... this book may not be the best book on Hollywood you read. Still, after reading "Chins" I came away amazed at two things. First, that this is a great primer on the joy and ruimentary art of film making/producing and second, that Bruce Campbell has been in a hell of a lot of stuff. In fact,it's quite possible to play a more advanced version of Six Degees of Kevin Bacon, substituting Bruce for Kevin. Here, let's go from James Stewart to Bruce Campbell.
James Stewart in The Philadelphia Story with
Katharine Hepburn in Guess who's Coming to Dinner with
Spencer Tracy in Mad Mad Mad Mad World with
Carl Reiner in Ocean's 11 with
George Clooney in Intolerable Cruelty with
Bruce Cambell
See what I mean...it's fun and so is the book.
Rating: Summary: If you love Bruce - you'll love this book Review: Bruce is the B movie master. He's a working man's actor who gets it. The book is an enjoyable glimpse into hollywood without the goofy far out interpretations.
Bruce rocks - plain and simple.
Rating: Summary: The Real Deal Review: Bruce Campbell tells it like it really is (at least for him). This book was a pleasure to read. It offers a straightforward account of his early life and interest in acting, as well as his experiences in making 'The Evil Dead' which has become a cult favorite. He even explains some of the secrets behind the affordable special effects. During the telling of the trials and triumphs of his start and ensuing career, it becomes pretty clear that he thoroughly enjoys what he is doing! Did I mention that the book is also very funny? A must read book for the average person or teen who is interested in becoming a 'movie star'.
Rating: Summary: Great Memoir and really funny. Review: This is the best autobiography/biography I've ever read. It's worth reading for the dialogue excerpt from McHale's Navy alone!! Bruce has made a cultist name for himself with his work in the Evil Dead trilogy, and this book plainly describes how it happened while giving an excellent behind the scenes analysis of those movies and his life since making those three movies. I recommend it for fans and non-fans alike just because of the amazing insiders glimpse it gives of struggling actors trying to make it big in Hollywood.
