Rating: Summary: For anyone who appreciates Bruce Campbell and his works Review: OK, maybe it could be better organized, maybe it has a few moments of weird formatting, but this book is a fascinating journey through the life and mind of the beloved, hard-working, slightly off-kilter Bruce Campbell. It's as close as many people will get to sitting down and shooting the breeze with the actor about life, film, and television.Quite simply, this is one man's story - but like anything from the heart, you learn a lot about quite a few other things - and in this case, most of what you learn about is film, television, Holywood, and the fact that acting, when you get down to it, is difficult work that doesn't make most people rich - if they stick with it at all. Find out how the Rami brothers started. Read about Bruce's love of acting and the hardships he endured for something he really enjoyed. Get the dirt on Evil Dead. Read about the ups and the many downs of movie and acting careers. Get a little insight into how Hollywood has changed over the years. Read about the horror of special effects and makeup. If you've ever enjoyed Bruce Campbell in a role and want to get a glimpse of the non-glamorous, real side of Hollywood, get this book. You'll meet a remarkable individual who's really not different than the rest of us, and he'll show you all the sides of movies and TV most people forget to mention. In the end, the book is both interesting, educational, and actually inspiring - seeing one boy from Detroit make it in movies and telvision will really make you think. Seeing what he was willing to face will make you think about what you'd be willing to give up for what you love.
Rating: Summary: Bruce's Book Review: A great book!!! For anyone who ever wanted to know about Bruce and his start to fame, this is it. Great pics throughout the book, not lumped all in the middle. His childhood stories will keep you laughing. A definate for any Campbell fan!!!
Rating: Summary: A must have for any Movie Fanatic Review: I'm not a hooked on phonics kinda guy but very rarely i would read a book cover-to-cover. Only for school, never for pleasure...this book changed that for me. Through Bruce's autobiography, I could see a true image of what's Hollywood really like beneath the glamor and the spotlights. It's a business, one of the most toughest and competive businesses at that. Anyone who plans to make the trek to Hollywood must read this book. Other than that, Bruce tells some excellent stories behind the scenes of his movies, especially the Evil Dead trilogy. A lot of If Chins Could Kill is hard to put down fun reading. We can only hope for another one Bruce. Keep On Truckin'.
Rating: Summary: A realistic bio of the everday hollywood player. Review: I'm only half way through this bio. I started yesterday, and am already on chapter 23. Don't think that this book is thin, or a short read in any way shape or form...I just read so quickly because I couldn't put the thing down! Sure Bruce has high power, high profile friends (such as Sam Raimi, who is heading up the huge Spiderman project coming out), but he is still an everyday guy. His sarcasm and humor keep you turning the pages. A good read for anyone interested in any type of film career, a good biography, or anyone who just wants a few chuckles. I would have waited until I was done, to post my review, but I couldn't let this great book have no comments. Besides, even though I've only read a portion, that portion alone was worth the [price] that I spent on it. A great buy.
Rating: Summary: Camp at it's best Review: This book is throughly enjoyable. I laughed outloud from the time I picked it up at 7:00pm and finished it at 12:30am last night. Granted, I borrowed it from my younger brother with the thought that it would probably not be very good. I can honestly say I was pleasently surprised. Bruce Campbell is a funny man. If you have seen any of his movies and are a big fan you already know this, likewise if you are a "deadite". Me, I am niether, ( Don't get me wrong, I liked Evil Dead as much as the next girl),but I'll tell you this is worth a read. This book does what so many other biographys should do, it doesn't take itself to seriously. It offers an inside look not into the glamourous world of fame and fortune, but into film making and how everyday actors struggle to find a niche and a paycheck. Okay, so it's not literature, but, man I gotta tell you it is funny.
Rating: Summary: You don't have to be an Evil Dead fan to enjoy this... Review: An down to earth book that gives a glimpse into the lives, antics and personalities of Bruce Campbell and the people at the heart of the Evil Dead Series. As well as quenching my thirst for "behind the scene" tidbits I found myself charged by the basic need for fun and creativity that has driven Mr. Campbell and company to acomplish all they have.
Rating: Summary: You'll believe chins can kill! Review: Bruce Campbell's autobiography is nothing short of amazing. It shocks me that such a little-known actor could come out of nowhere to write such an extremely well recieved book, chock full of pop-culture. I have been a Bruce Campbell fan since I saw him in Army of Darkness, and am glad to finally see him get the recognition he deserves. To anyone who has any doubts about this book, I encourage you to put them aside and BUY THIS RIGHT NOW!
Rating: Summary: If you have the most vague of interests, it's a must have Review: There's nothing quite as uplifting as reading about a charming nobody who ends up a success. I don't think this book is a hard sell to Bruce's rabid fanbase, but there's plenty of appeal for everyone else. It starts off well, Bruce clearly stating that he is determined to make this book fun. Bruce states on the inside jacket "If the book sucks, at least there are gobs of pictures, and they're not crammed in the middle like all those other actor books." The so-called "Foreward" sounds more like an SNL sketch about a failed attempt to get Sam Raimi and his brother to write a real foreward: it's a fake(?) transcription of them being taped as they trash the publisher's office. About a third of the way through, you can tell there's both heart and despair in every ridiculous frame of that first "Evil Dead" movie that Bruce made with his childhood friends. By then you've seen dozens of sketches and pictures of Bruce and his hometown suburb of Detroit. From there you can do nothing but sit back and enjoy as his career takes off, and you are left wishing there were another 300 pages.
Rating: Summary: Rare glimpse into Hollywood Review: I read this over the course of a couple of days. Very fast read. Being a fan of Bruce Campbell's work I really enjoyed the behind the scenes info and insights to some of my favorite movies. More importantly this book confirmed something I think we all suspected was that the Hollywood system stinks. Bruce Campbell has shown that if you are willing to sacrifice everything for something you enjoy you can make it in the business and not be an A list celebrity. He's a regular schmoe like the rest of us who has done really well at something he enjoyed doing. Don't we all wish we could be so lucky. My only complaint with this book was that the final chapters seem to be thin and rushed. If these chapters could be fleshed out like the earlier sections it would be an even better read. I still loved it and look forward to reading it again. Who needs A&E for a great biography? Read this book!
Rating: Summary: Bruce Cambell's sense of humor continues... Review: I'm not the type of person to read any kind of biographies, but something about BC has always caught my interest. After reading his autobiography, I realized it's just that he's an ordinary guy who loves doing what he does. His sense of humor is great, and I think he expressed himself quite well. I enjoyed reading about his childhood, and he kept it short and sweet - ya know, he doesn't BORE you to death. He also wrote with a "story-teller" view, which made me feel like he was talking to me directly. I thought it was well written and interesting, and anyone who likes Bruce Campbell, or loves to read about people, this is a great book for you.
