Rating: Summary: Wil Wheaton has done it and done it well! Review: Wil Wheaton is an amazing author that thousands of people read every single day online at wilwheaton.net. The way that Wheaton expresses his emotions on the web has been transferred on to paper in a truly genius manner. There is eloquence in the way he thinks, the way he jokes, and especially in the way he writes. Wil Wheaton is speaking to the masses the same cleverly sarcastic and thoughtful way, but through a different medium. I now have Wil on the comfort of my couch, not just at my computer. As a huge fan and an avid reader of WWDN, I congratulate Wil on an inspiring book. In two words beginning with H, Dancing Barefoot is heartwarming and hilarious.
Rating: Summary: Who knew child stars could be anything but alcoholics! Review: I've been reading Wil Wheaton's site for awhile now. From the start, I was hooked. His book is the same way. I ordered one of the first 200 copies and began reading it a few hours after it arrived.I had planned to read the first couple short stories and save the rest for another day but I just couldn't put it down! Each story is wonderfully written, with great imagery and depth. You can feel each emotion he goes through in these stories. I can't wait to read his next book! Go buy this if you haven't already!
Rating: Summary: A great introspective look into Wil Wheaton's soul Review: This book is comprised of five short stories from Wil's weblog that give the reader a glimps into the person that is Wil Wheaton. They each evoke an emotion ranging from touching to funny. They leave the reader wanting more. If you enjoy biographical works or have ever been entertained by Wil Wheaton either on the silver screen, television, online, or at a Star Trek convention, you will definately enjoy this book.
Rating: Summary: No longer just an actor Review: The insight and ability of Wil Wheaton to draw the readers into many wonderful tales of childhood and dreams certifies that "TV's Wil Wheaton" has become "Wil Wheaton the Author". In a surprise reading, I found myself enjoying some tales that we all hope to live through, and others many will never have. I borrowed the book from a friend, and immediately went out looking for it after I read it. If you like to think and grow, then this collection of five real life stories is a must read for you.
Rating: Summary: Wow! Review: I was just blown away by this book. I'd been reading Wil's weblog for a while, so I knew he could write, but I wasn't prepared to like the book as much as I did. I picked it up one night, figuring I'd read the first story and then go to bed; two hours later I realized that not only had I finished the book, but I really wanted to reread it. Dancing Barefoot is funny, serious, light, and deep. It will give you a perspective on what it's like to be Wil Wheaton, but, more than that, it will give you some things to think about and some things to laugh about. What more could you want from a book?
Rating: Summary: Real life, real insights Review: It's not often we get to see the real life of famous people. And it is a rarity to find that real life to be normal and much like your own. This book tells the story of Wil's coming of age. It talks about coming to terms with the loss of a special person, of the simple joy of walking in the rain with your spouse and of coming to terms with the insecurities that started in your teen years but seem to follow you well into what is considered "adulthood". The final short story of the book, "The Saga of SpongeBob Vega$Pants" gives the most insight into Wil's coming of age. He shares the moments leading up to his eppiphany... when he finally accepts what was and embraces what is. It's a moment many of us recognize, when we let out a deep sigh and finally learn to love ourselves, not in spite of our past, but because of it. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a heartwarming account of a young man coming of age.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Review: Many people think of Wil Wheaton as that kid from Stand By Me or that geeky acting ensign on Star Trek. Many people don't think of him at all. However, many more of us (more and more as time goes on) have gotten to know a different side of Mr. Wheaton through his website. We have been with him through his frustrations as an actor in Hollywood, his joys and sorrows as a parent and husband, through his trials with Star Trek and William F'ing Shatner, and have been amazed by the truly personal and wonderful things he has shared through his blog. Those of us who have been devotees of his website have known for a long time what a terrific writer (and person!) Wil Wheaton is. Now he has decided to share his talent and stories with us in book form. I ordered this book the minute he started offering it for sale, even though I knew most of the material I had already read on his site. I read through it in one sitting. I was not displeased. The stories range from hilarious, to whimsical and nostalgic, to downright tearjerking. Though I had read them before they were just as resonant as the first time I had seen them. He has also finished up the Saga of SpongeBob VegasPants that he had teased us with on his website but never gave us the ending to. It would have been worth it just for that. I am not as eloquent as some of the others who have reviewed his book, and especially not as much as the man himself. But I just have to say that I am amazed by this book and so proud of this man who has let so many of us into his life as no other celebrity has before and made us all feel like friends (but not stalkers or anything. I swear!). I, for one, cannot wait for his next book, Just a Geek, to come out.
Rating: Summary: i couldn't stop myself Review: This is a very nice book. It's light reading, yet it's deceptively addictive. I wanted to spread out the enjoyment, yet I found myself swallowing the book in huge chunks. I reached the end, bloated on Wil's writing, wishing there were more. More brushes with Shatner. More gentle declarations of love for his family. More descriptions of the author's geeky life. I look forward to his upcoming book "Just a Geek." A longer, more in-depth piece of Wil to gorge myself on. Mmmmmm . . . geek.
Rating: Summary: Wil Wheaton Rules Review: I became addicted to Wil's writing voice reading his web log over the past few months. This collection of these writings is great. I read it in about 3 hours and was left wanting more. Thank goodness for the blog. I particularly enjoyed 'Spongebob Vegas Pants' an essay on the trials, tribbleations, and triumpths of appearing at a Star Trek convention. Real insight into the phenomena viewed through the eyes of a regular guy that used to be on TV a lot.
Rating: Summary: A great and fun read! Review: So, you think you know Wil Wheaton. You think he's that little geek kid from Stand by Me or that annoying Wesley Crusher on Star Trek. Well, you're right. He is those things. But, he is also so much more. He's a geek. He's a father. He's an actor. He's also a utterly wonderful and fabulous writer. I was amazed at just how fast the time flew when I read this book. Most of the stories are funny but poignant. The story about him dealing with a Star Trek convention had me laughing out loud. Two thumbs up.
