Summary: Fan From Star Trek to WWDN.
Review: This was a great book. A short look into Wil's life. Can't wait for "Just A Geek!"

Summary: Read this book...then go out and buy Just a Geek
Review: I bought Dancing Barefoot when Wil first self published it. Later at a book signing, he gave me a second copy. The day it was released by O'Reilly I bought another one here on Amazon. I love this book so much that I've loaned it to numerous other people who also love it. Wil is a geek like me. Wil is a great story teller. It's almost impossibly to believe that these are the stories that were cut out of Just a Geek. You can't read just one, so buy a few.

Summary: Charming little read
Review: This book was given to me by my bookworm English teacher. I sat down to read the first couple of stories and was immediately drawn to this guy's honestly and simplicity that a lot of author's don't have today. I finished it in about an hour and cried the whole way through. There are 5 short stories about little events in his life that made a big impact on him. To sum this up, everything is short and very sweet. I can't image anybody who couldn't smile over these charming stories.

Summary: So Moved By The Writing
Review: I'm an avid reader of Wil Wheaton's site (wilwheaton.net) so I knew I would enjoy reading these 5 short stories. I never expected how moved I would be from his writing as I finished reading the last page. The stories are very captivating and dragged me into the scenes. The order of the stories was great, leading up to the most climaxing and involved. I really love the stories of him and his wife, it shows how great the relationship they have along with Wil and his stepkids. I can't wait to read more from Wil.

Summary: Take off your shoes and come listen to a few stories
Review: Those interested in Star Trek and famous people will want to go straight to the last and largest chapter in the book, "The Saga of SpongeBob VegasPants." With 110 pages of material, only about 35 of it is devoted to the other four stories and an enjoyable read they were.

Aunt Val, his aunt, sounded like the aunt we all had or wish we had. His writing about her provided a glimpse of Wil (he would want us to be on a first name basis - after all, I am older by just a notch!) as a nephew who cared about his aunt. He experienced the thoughts and feelings we did when a loved one died.

Ironically, I was sitting outside watching my kids play on a perfect Texas afternoon when reading about his playing Hide-n-Seek with his step-sons. While playing the game, he went back in time remembering different parts of his life. Of course, this led me to do the same in recalling the bike rides in my neighborhood and playing kick-the-can at camp.

The sweet yet simple moment between him and his wife in the rain upped my respect for him. Hollywood marriages failed left and right, faster than a blink. Something about his words said this was real.

Wil got a nasty brush off on the STNG set setting off "office gossip" where everyone knew about it. He humorously cussed his hands off about the famous person (what, me spoil it?). Bold move. Most of us would freak out in fear of the political aftermath.

Were you ever the unlucky fan near the end of the line waiting for an autograph? His perspective of the person sitting in the chair with pen in cramped hand was an eye-opener. Fire fighters, administrative assistants, and teachers have noble jobs, but don't become famous like actors. Acting is a job and with the job comes admirers who want to be friends or possess something whether it's an autograph or a worn outfit.

He recollected his days at work. Instead of hearing about days in the world of a corporate office, it took place on a set and at a convention.

This was worth reading. He earned his online and book authoring successes.

Summary: Like a bag of chocolate candies!
Review: This book is like a bag of chocolate candies: you want to save some for later, but you just can't stop eating. Or in other words, you're likely to finish this book in one session.

Wil Wheaton is a very talented writer, as people who read his weblog already know. Great stuff, I can't wait for Mr. Wheaton's upcoming book!

Summary: Good stories, Strong language.
Review: A lot of the other reviews here have touched on many of the good parts of this book. I also enjoyed reading Wil's thoughts. It is fascinating to read a bit of the 'jaded hollywood insider' perspective, and then how it changes for him into more of an appreciation for all the good times, all the adventures, that happened in the past.

As a parent, I also enjoy the little tidbits that Wil slips in about his wife and his stepkids. It's great to read about him playing hide-n-seek with his boys, and how much he values his family. I'm tired of reading so much trash journalism about shallow show-biz folks. I respect Wil for sharing about his depth, and his thoughts.

One criticism is the language. There is a fair bit of swearing in his work. If that bothers you, then you probably should give this book a pass. It bothers me. I'm not sure I'll read his upcoming "Just a Geek" if that is the case there as well.

I've visited his website a number of times and first read his work there. I had hoped that in the process of getting published his editor would encourage Wil to clean up his language. Unfortunately, they didn't. That's too bad, I think it limits his market.

Summary: An excellent read.
Review: I am a fan of Wil Wheaton's work on TNG and his blog, and am eagerly awaiting the publication of Just A Geek. This book is an ideal sneak preview -- five touching personal stories that provide a glimpse into some interesting moments in Wheaton's life. Wheaton is a very engaging writer; the reader feels as if an old friend is sharing anecdotes. I am a bookstore employee and have submitted this book as a staff recommendation.

Summary: Way Cool
Review: I've read a little of Wil's blog on his web site and found his writing entertaining. This short book (can be read in about an hour) contains a few stories all of which originally appeared on his website; one about losing his aunt (which I immediately identified with, having lost numerous loved ones over the years), his meeting "Captain Kirk" and how poorly "Kirk" treated Wil, to "fear & loathing" at a Star Trek convention, and to not calling a girl he met back when he was 15. All of them are very entertaining, at times funny, at times emotional as Wil relates them all. Wil is a great story teller and good writer and reveals there's much more to him than Wesley Crusher. And best of all, the book was done using Open Office, instead of Word or some other high cost word processing program. All right, Wil is a Linux dood..right on!

Summary: What a fantastic read!
Review: One of my dear friends pointed me in the direction of Wil's blog and I've been hooked ever since. Wil was a good actor (I LOVED Stand By Me and even thought nerdy Wesley was C*U*T*E*) but he is a damn good author! I bought Dancing Barefoot to read on my spring break and just devoured it! An effortless read and very enjoyable. Wil, I can hardly wait to read JAG and share Dancing Barefoot with my friends.
