Summary: More than an actor
Review: 'Dancing Barefoot' is a collection of five stories by the writer, blogger and actor Wil Wheaton.
The five pieces are based on material that has appeared on Wil's excellent website at WILWHEATONDOTNET.
Drawn from Wil's own personal experiences as an actor, writer, step-father, husband and fan (or self termed geek
if you prefer), the stories are original, funny, poignant and sad.
This is perhaps key to the book's success, Wil is grounded in reality, he is witty and insightful, he's also the guy next door, except he's a talented young writer with a great and sharp sense of humour, and a fan of film and books and technology just like you and me.
Of course if you know Wil, you probably have this as it's a crucial item. If you know him from 'Stand By Me' or 'Star Trek
The Next Generation', c'mon, wise up and hand over the readies!
Wil is one of the freshest voices in America. Buy his book and get him on a chat show immediately!! He deserves coverage and exposure so please, pick up a copy now!!!!
This really is a refreshing read and I urge you to buy it. He deserves this book to be a bestseller, after all, how many actors can you name who are so free of loviness, pretension and ego and are actually worth listening to?

Summary: What's not to like...
Review: When I sat down to read this (at 4 am the day after I received) I only meant to read the first story.

At 5am, after reading all 5 stories, I came away with a much better insight as to what it means to be a Star Trek fan to the people who play the characters.

I also realized that Wil Wheaton is a truly gifted author.

He has a brilliant way of pulling you into the story he's weaving. The stories are poignant, thoughtful, and for most people, will cause you to reminisce about similar events in your own past.

I am eagerly looking forward to "Just A Geek".

I am also a new reader to wilwheaton.net

Everyone should give this book a chance. You'll come away extremely please with your purchase.

Summary: Wil Wheaton is officially on my favourite authors list
Review: I've been following Wil Wheaton's webblog for two years (has it really been that long?), and I love his writing. He also inadvertently introduced me to the wonders of Mandrake Linux, for which I'm very very grateful. It was with that in mind, that I bought this book.

I'm glad I did.

Almost every story touches a common chord that most people will be familiar with. Losing a loved one, meeting your childhood crush, being crazy in love, or being at a Star Trek convention. There are some stories that I can empathise with more than others.

Inferno was a great story. Every teenage guy has had a crush on a beautiful girl. In my case it was two - Jacqui (at high school), and Vanessa (at college). I only wish I had the guts to do what Wil did, in this story. Nice moves, Wheaton!

We Close Our Eyes is another truly beautiful story, and an intimate glimpse into a deeply personal part of Wil's life. In a world of high divorce rates, and broken relationships, it's heartwarming to realise that there's at least one couple out there that knows what love truly is.

I first heard about the SpongeBob VegasPants story on Wil's website, and I've been hankering to read it ever since. It was worth the wait. The introduction is absolutely priceless, and the conclusion is deeply heartwarming. I was fascinated by the peek that Wil gives us into the life of an actor on a major TV series. Not to mention slightly repulsed by his encounters with some of the more zealous fans at these conventions.

Dancing Barefoot may be less than 200 pages long, but it's well worth the read. In addition to being a very cool guy (who uses Linux, how cool is that!), he's also a fantastic writer and actor. When Just a Geek comes out, I'll be the first in line to buy it.

Summary: Amazing Debut
Review: Being a fan of Wil Wheaton since "Stand By Me", I was drawn to his online blog and amazing website, www.wilwheaton.net. There I found that one of my childhood crushes was now an author, working on several books! Immediately I had to buy one. Wil published his book by starting his own company, Monolith Press.
He even signed it for me! I read it once and then put it back in the envelope... I have to buy another one just for reading. It's that good.
"Five short but true stories"... From a story about a beloved family member that passed away (the saddest story, and I guarantee you will relate to it), to a sweet moment with his wife, Anne, until we get to the the epic (in comparison) tale of his adventures at a Star Trek Convention in Las Vegas. And you finally get to learn the truth about William Shatner.
Get this book! Definitely worth the money, and definitely worth your time!
Happy Reading!

Summary: Short, but sweet.
Review: When that great box with the Amazon smiley face on the side arrived, I immediately opened it to find a book that's only the thickness of most magazines. I also so how large the print was on all the pages (they were stretching it out), and I was a little disappointed, until I read it (Which didn't take long at all, of course). The content more than makes up for the size. It's a great book, with some very hilarious (as well as sad) parts. I actually laughed out loud a few times, which rarely happens while I'm reading. Pick it up, it's definantly worth the $10. The first 4 stories are each about 5 pages long, and it's the last story that makes up the book being about 80 pages long.

Summary: I laughed, I cried, it was a wild ride
Review: For awhile I've been a fan of Wil Wheaton: The Man. This book explains why. From the opening words to the last this book is engaging, making the reader feel as though a transporter has beamed them up to another planet. It's Planet Wil.

When reading about a 16 year-old Wil being treated poorly I wanted to protect him and beat up the bully. When I read about the harsh Star Trek fans I wanted to tell them to get a life and leave Wil alone. But all this was years ago and it has a happy ending. I know this not because it's Hollywood but because Wil said so.

It's a very real and honest account of his life dancing barefoot as just a geek. I look forward to reading his first (but as yet unpublished) book, Just a Geek.

The irony is that in my mind his coolness factor is raised every time he points to his own geekiness or acts like the guy next door that you see watering his lawn or jumping through sprinklers with the kids. The first time I ever read his blog I was tempted to email him to ask, "Wil, will you be my friend?" It wasn't the last time the thought struck me.

When you read Dancing Barefoot you'll want Wil to be your friend too.

Summary: An honest peek into an actors life. A great read all around.
Review: Will took a leap of faith and dove head first into the publishing world by releasing his first book that contains moments of his life that are heart felt and well written. I ordered my copy early from his website (wilwheaton.net) after visiting his site for over two years. He has blossomed as a writer over the years by the telling of his life experiences. It was quickly evident to me that Will has real talent as a writer when I felt the emotion welling up in me as he retold the story of his grandmothers passing. This book is quick read, but well worth it. It offers an honest peek into the life of a man who has made the journey from boy to actor to star to father and regular guy next door. This book gives the reader a true sense of who Will Wheaton is by sharing intimate thoughts and experiences that are rarely told with such passion.

Summary: "Dancing Barefoot" is a short but sweet read
Review: I still remember Wil Wheaton from his days on Star Trek: The Next Generation (something I'm sure he's only heard a zillion times). You hear such horror stories about child stars who grew up in the spotlight and how it ruined their lives. Wil's book, Dancing Barefoot, is not only a glimpse into some of the turmoils that he's gone through, but also an uplifting book in that we see how he came out on the other side, healthy, happy, and a much better person for it. His writing is engaging, his sense of humor is sharp, and his honesty about himself and the personal growth he's gone through is refreshing.

As a precursor to the upcoming book, Just A Geek (from which the five stories in Dancing Barefoot were cut from due to length), reading this book has left me more anxious to read the next all the more.

Review: Love the blog and the book. I look foward to reading more from Wil. I would love to hear him on NPR like David Sedaris. Ira Glass could do a whole show on geeks and feature commentary by Wil and other geeks? Maybe it is just me?

Summary: America's last great hope...
Review: Wil Wheaton shines with uplifting, heart-wrenching, and often laugh-out-loud stories about a life following the successes he experienced on the hit television series "Star Trek: The Next Generation". This short-but-gripping series of five stories (taken from the star's "blog"; an Internet journal) tells tales of lost family members, true love, and the coming to terms with painful memories of his "Star Trek" fame fifteen years prior. A fan of Star Trek or not, readers of "Dancing Barefoot" can look forward to five great stories that supplement the upcoming "Just A Geek" novel, told through the eyes of what America's ideal father figure, husband, and friend should be. Don't forget to check out his website, WIL WHEATON DOT NET and preorder his upcoming book "Just A Geek", also available from amazon.com.
