Rating: Summary: A Loving Tribute Review: As a lifetime fan of Audrey Hepburn, I was eagerly awaiting this book. Full of wonderful family photos and personal anecdotes this is not a full fledged biography. Fans looking for information on her movie career or gossip will have to look elsewhere. I agree with another reviewer, this is more of a scrapbook. I would've liked more narrative and information, but the photos make this book well worth it and essential for any fan and admirer of this great lady and human being. Ferrer provides crucial information of her early years and never before published revelations of her final days that are very moving. All profits from the book go to the Audrey Hepburn Children's Fund, so what are you waiting for? Buy it! Essential for any fan and a wonderful Christmas gift and coffee table book for anyone.
Rating: Summary: A Talented,Caring,Elegant Woman and Mother Review: Audrey Hepburn chose to never write her autobiography because she was afraid of offending someone inadvertandly by careless revelations. Her son,Sean, writes a loving tribute of this lovely lady whose beauty shines through on every page,as it did in her films.Films such as "The Nun's Story",the musical "My Fair Lady"and Truman Capote's "Breakfast At Tiffany's." He also writes of how important his Mothers'work in UNICEF became to her,in her later years, and in turn to himself. Audrey was born in Holland and during World Warll she suffered from malnutrition, brought on by a diet consisting of tulip bulbs and water. She often went without food all day. After the war ended, she was a beneficiary of UNICEF. She understood the chidren of the Third World and their suffering better than many celebrities. In many ways,it is refreshing to read of Ms.Hepburn from her eldest son's point of view.(Audrey had a younger son she adored named Luca Dotti)from her second marriage. This is a true love story. For any woman who admired Audrey Hepburn, this is a perfect Mother's Day Gift. For anyone, this is a gift and the proceeds go to the "Audrey Hepburn Children's Fund."
Rating: Summary: An Elegant Spirit, indeed Review: Audrey Hepburn is the closest thing I'll ever have to an idol in my life. If you've seen her in a film you'll know that she could melt the hardest heart with a look, and she seemed to be an angel on Earth. If you've read a biography on her, you'll know that she was far more than a pretty face and really was an angel on Earth. Sean Hepburn Ferrer's book on his mother does nothing to dispel this notion. This book is not so much a biography or even a memoir so much as a scrapbook of sorts. He writes about their everyday life and how she just wanted Sean and his brother Luca to be raised and loved right, and there are long sections of just pictures. Featuring never before seen pictures and some lovely personal stories, you walk away from this book feeling that you sat down to dinner with the family and were immediately embraced by Audrey herself. Sean writes from the heart, the best place to write about Audrey from. I don't want to give much away because I really feel this is a book everyone should peruse for themselves, but I will say that this book was worth the long wait.
Rating: Summary: A Loving Tribute to a Lovely Woman Review: Audrey Hepburn, an Elegant Spirit: A Son Remembers is a truly beautiful anf loving tribute to a Hollywood legend. The photographs in the book are truly stunning and strengthen my belief that it was just impossible for anyone to take a bad picture of the luminous Audrey. What is truly special about this book is the sense that the reader is intruding on the very special love between a remarkable mother and her adoring son. Ferrer lets us see glimpses of Audrey that no other writer has been able to show yet it is clear he still respects her privacy and offers nothing remotely resembling gossip. Ferrer himself seems like a very centered, kind young man and you get the sense that Audrey would have been very proud of him. It's obvious he was exceedingly proud of her. This is a really excellent book and a must for any Hepburn fan.
Rating: Summary: perfect!!! Review: Describes Audrey exactly, puts into words how I feel watching her on screen. She was more than a great actress, she was a presence that touched you, and her elegance and grace was more than the outside, it was something that radiated from within, and her son does a fantastic job acknowledging that, helping us, her fans, understand a little better. I have been captivated by Ms. Hepburn my whole life, and have read almost everything out there but none of her biographies have touched me, and done real justice to her like this one. I feel this is the way Audrey would want to have been remembered, as if she were there as her son wrote it. My respect and admiration for Audrey Hepburn has increased dramactically through the reading of this book and I treat my loved ones better, and enjoy life more through her great wisdom and courage. I love this book! It has great pictures also and is a delightful read, he has real talent!! Thank you so much for writing this book and all the love that went into it!
Rating: Summary: ONE BEAUTIFUL WOMAN Review: HANDS DOWN, THE BEST BOOK ON AUDREY YOU CAN READ
Rating: Summary: An Elegant Story! Review: I felt incredibly inspired after reading this book. I read it from cover to cover in one afternoon and thoroughly enjoyed it. I'd seen most of Audrey Hepburn's movies in the past but never knew the true story of her life. Now, after reading her son's narrative, I completely understand why millions of fans around the world want to emulate Audrey in both style and persona. She was the epitome of grace, beauty, and elegance - not only in fashion but in how she treated others throughout her life despite any disappointments or setbacks that she faced. She truly touched people's lives, especially with her involvement in UNICEF. The family photos and mementos were my favorite part of the book! The intimate shots with her husband and children really draw you in and make you want to learn everything there is to know about her. I only wish there were more people like Audrey in the world to inspire us today. If you love Audrey Hepburn, you'll love this book. If you know nothing about her, you'll still love this book. And when you're finished, it makes a fabulous coffee table book. My friends can't put it down.
Rating: Summary: An Angel For The Masses... Review: I love Audrey Hepburn. She is my idol and guiding spirit. I read this book when it was first published and have re-read it over & over. Can you imagine having Audrey as your mother? Her son does justice to her elegance, beauty, acting talent & humanity. His remembrances are charming and the photos are breathtaking. A fascinating and enlightening book about one man's mother; beautifully & tenderly written. Do youself a favor & read this book. It will tell you the story of an angel...
Rating: Summary: lovely photos, disappointing prose Review: I love the photos, and were it just a photo book, it would be 5 stars, but the text is so disappointing, disjointed it leaves me with an unfinished feeling. I do hope the book does well because I know the proceeds go to the children she worked so hard to save. BTW I am a contemporary of Audrey Hepburn, perhaps younger readers will like this book much more than I did.
Rating: Summary: A Real Princess of the People. Review: I never was a fan of any Actor, but Audrey over the years had crept into my heart. She was 9 years older than me and really made an impression on this boy. Why couldn't more girls be like her?. This book is an easy read but well written - from the heart. I was left wanting the book to go on, there is so much more to tell. I no longer think of her as a pretty face but as a person that did make a difference in people' lives where it counted. The Children that couldn't speak for themselves, she spoke for them and was heard!
