Summary: You Must Meet "Myrtle"
Review: Wow, what a surprising treat of a read. As a certifiable NPR "All Things Considered" junkie, I have always been intrigued by the wit and sarcasm of Hollis Gillespie. I was completely unaware of this book until last week when I was working late and with the TV on in the background I hear Jay Leno introduce Hollis Gillespie. I quickly tuned my attention to see "live" this poignantly zany author. It took me three bookstores to find this in stock the next day, and it was well worth the travels! The book is organized into a collection of life tales each covered relatively succinctly in 2-4 pages. To continually vacillate from gut-wrenching belly laughs to teary-eyed contemplation in a matter of a few pages is a testament to the power of her writing. Her raw and uninhibited emotions make you pause and feel her trials and tribulations....and often times wish you could be a fly-on-the-wall in her world. True to the only review I read of this book before purchasing, it leaves you wanting more.

Summary: Finally! A writer who tells it like it is!
Review: You'll LOVE this romp through Gillespie's life. She's unfailingly funny and original. Her honesty is past brutal. Hollis Gillespie is the Erma Bombeck of our generation. Every time I read one of her stories, I find a new favorite. We could all take a lesson from Hollis, throw away our fear, and dive into life.
