Rating: Summary: Literary low point of the year Review: This is one of the slimiest books I've ever seen. Michael Bergin claims to have loved Carolyn Besette yet he's proclaiming some extremely unflattering things about her in this poorly written book. The entire "love story" could've been told in an essay but Bergin chose to puff up his dull, repetitive tale to book length. Hopefully this book will go along the same lines as Bergins post Baywatch acting career.
Rating: Summary: 5 Stars for Bravery Review: I must admit I am a bit stunned at all the lashing out at Michael Bergin for telling his story. This memoir is actually thoughtful, honest, and very brave. Surely Mr. Bergin knew that he would receive a great deal of negative criticism for revealing the details of his relationship with Carolyn Bessette Kennedy, but he has every right to tell his story as he lived it. Some may find certain details hard to accept because of the "Cinderella and Prince Charming" scenario of the Kennedys they have in their minds, but let's not dispute a person's right to tell the truth as they believe it to be. The Michael Bergin that emerges in this book is a warm, likable, and passionate. He also emerges as genuinely hurt by the loss of someone he loved, and devastated by her swift, tragic departure from this world. This seems extraordinarily authentic and heartfelt. I commend Mr. Bergin for his bravery and humility.
Rating: Summary: Bergin ought to be ashamed of himself Review: I didn't read this book and don't plan to after seeing this "man" hawking it in the media. He has the AUDACITY to claim that he wrote this book to "honor Carolyn's memory." I don't see how telling the world about her adultery and multiple abortions, if indeed that's true, brings any honor to Carolyn. If he truly loved her, he would have kept his mouth shut. Since he thinks he's honoring her by writing this trash, I'd like to ask Mr. Bergin, to what charity is he giving the proceeds?
Rating: Summary: A Charmed Life And The Light Of Day. Review: When Princess Di goes to the streets with a book to blab on a man (omitting her own adulteries with engaged/married men) she is louded by press and public as being "open and honest." When Hewitt (or Bergin) go to the streets with a book to blab on a woman they are pronounced "rats and cads." Curious. If Bergin's story is true charming Carolyn Bessette comes across as the consummate dysfunctional white trash, tantrum throwing, snooty snit. And not a nice one. Michael and Carolyn. Synopsis in brief: "He thought she was probably the most beautiful girl in New York and she was always telling him that he was the most handsome man". (The End.) Nevertheless... Chapter One. "High class" but devious broad critiques underwear, snorts coke, (but doesn't approve) and has a penchant for collecting back street toy boys. When she wasn't cheating on 'em, beating 'em up and busting their furniture when they didn't tow her line she was busy aborting their babies (hunk lacked the sufficient verbal skills, social stature and big bucks to support her to the manor born). Chapter Two. So the epitome of American good looks, brains and class marries the brass ring, sleeps around when she thinks things aren't going her way and finally settles down to the glitzy domestic hell she so richly deserves... Yawn. Chi Chi Princess's story implodes on a spiffy private jet heading clueless for swank Martha's Vineyard. Author Bergin comes across as so credulous and dumb was there really a point to all of this? Every time he opens his amiable and sincere mouth a joke falls out. He actually thinks he has defended her memory! But what can you expect? Carolyn taught him everything he knows. (According to Bergin she is now looking down from above approvingly). Book begged the question: If Carolyn was so devastated by terminating the lives of so many of her children why wasn't this "sophisticated, intelligent and classy lady" on birth control or condoms? The answer is simple. A "sophisticate" Carolyn Bessette may have been, but intelligent and classy she was not. (Witty but witless.) And people STOP fretting that poor Carolyn is just being exploited by a guy with a trashy agenda. If only half of what is asserted in this book is true "exploitation with a trashy agenda" is what needy operator Carolyn Bessette was all about. Call it poetic justice. The word that sums up this fractured fairy tale is THUD!
Rating: Summary: Save Your Money! Review: Don't be an idiot like me and waste your hard-earned money on this book. I may be able to get 50-cents out of it at my yard sale!
Rating: Summary: Lighten Up Review: Michael Bergin is a nice guy...I have had the pleasure of meeting him twice in the past and I agree with other reviewers he is not a mean spirited or deceitful person. Why is it acceptable for Ed Klein and others to write untruths about Carolyn and JFK, Jr. but it is considered disgraceful by someone who ACTUALLY knew her to tell his side of the story. All who say Carolyn is not alive to defend herself should save that comment for Ed Klein and Larry Leamer who always quote unnamed sources when they write about the Kennedy's. To me this makes Carolyn a more humane person whereas all of the other garbage written makes her out to be so cool and collected when she was just like everyone else out there living her life and making the same mistakes as others. I think Michael loved her immensely but now he has a new life and I do not see anything wrong with clearing the air once and for all regarding this bittersweet chapter of his life. So funny that most of the people posting quote unquote reviews didn't even bother to read it before lashing out. No doubt the media has alot to do with creating the venom that is being spewed here. Again Michael Bergin is a nice guy!
Rating: Summary: Please avoid grammar mistakes in writing your reviews! Review: I would like to ask everyone involved in writing reviews for this book to please be careful about spelling and grammar in your writing. I think it takes away the credence from your opinion if your thoughts are poorly written.
Rating: Summary: Leave Them Alone....... Review: I'm not very old at all, but maybe now I've really seen everything. The book & now this pitiful little man's confessions on ET. The curse is not being a Kennedy, rather it's being helpless victims to these desperate for 15 minutes of glory wolves. For God's sake, let them rest in peace. If all this happened, why did you wait so long? Do you need money so badly that you'll publish such an invasive tale while no one is alive to refute your rubbish? Get somewhat of a life, you hapless joke. Oh, don't worry, plenty of sucklings & lickspittles will buy your trash & you'll find raking in the cash is just as easy as when you're where modeling your emaciated body for your underwear ads. Personally, I hope you fall flat on your face. Shame on you, little boy.
Rating: Summary: SO THIS IS LOVE???? Self-serving love, maybe..... Review: Revealing unflattering secrets of a dead woman regarding abortion, cocaine use, infidelity etc...is hardly the kind of thing which will put the dead at peace and give closure to their families as irrationally claimed by the author. Now that the sordid truth is out, there will surely be closure, according to this intellectually disabled man ( and I use the term "man" loosely). Anyone who buys that propaganda is one taco short of combination plate. I hope his current gal doesn't have any "secrets" she doesn't want the world to know b/c she's certainly at risk. A real man would have kept this stuff to himself. I won't buy it or read it. I won't read anything from the publisher again and I won't watch anything in which this guy appears. It doesn't rate one star, but I didn't have a choice.
Rating: Summary: The truth, nothing but the truth..... Review: I'm surprised at all of the critics out there. Michael dated Carolyn prior to her meeting JFK Jr. So how can his claim to fame be sleeping with a celebrity? It's obvious that Carolyn loved Michael and he loved her. I honestly believe that she was in over her head when she married John and truly wanted love without all of the publicity and trappings. I think the drama of her new life in the spotlight made her scattered. Michael told the truth about what happened. He didn't speak badly of JFK Jr(who I adored by the way) and he dispelled the myth that Carolyn was a drug addict. I prefer the truth over fluff and I think this is it. ...Give Michael a little credit, he lived this story. Our hearts were broken when JKF Jr's plane crashed, but imagine how badly Michael must feel. All you need to do is remember what it felt like when you lost your first true love. If it was anything like mine, it was intense pain. I enjoyed the book. Please read it with an open mind.
