Rating: Summary: Cheap, very very Cheap Review: what a cheap way to make a profit! Just read the footnotes of the pictures! it's all it takes! The book is a revelation of shameless man ( with a wife by the way! where was she? ) taking advantage of the life of JFK Jr and his tragedy. I found it boring, insulting and misleading.
Rating: Summary: A love story, indeed...love of money! Review: I can't beleive I read this book. It has some interesting stories about Ms. Bessette (although very, very unflattering), but falls apart when Mr. Bergin talks of his 'love' for her. It's just simian sentimentality and it doesn't read true. Next year you'll find this in the extras bin for 25 cents - right next to "Monica's Story".
Rating: Summary: A True Love Story Review: First I wondered why someone would write a book about a celebrity that was dead - to cash in and make a profit?I saw Carolyn Bessette not as the sweet, lovable person he portrays her to be. She had a lot of insecurity issues. But he does admit love is blind. I do believe this book was written well by Michael Bergin and I give him a lot of credit. True love such as that can be so unbelievably painful. 2/3 thru the book I began to wonder if he was this love sick guy, and the book was worthless. But at the end you realize, he is telling the truth and he speaks from the heart. This was his way of truly letting go and moving on with his life. I found the book to be honest and worth reading if you ever had an interest in the whole John Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette relationship. Couldn't put the book down!
Rating: Summary: I am a bit confused about Review: something which does not quite make sense. How Michael Bergin had resolved his emotions toward Carolyn Bessette enough in 1999 that he was already living with another woman, a make-up artist named Joy, who was six months pregnant with their child when Carolyn died. They are now happily married with two children. How then did Carolyn's death so unravel Michael that he has spent the past 4+ years in turmult and felt the need to write this book? Weren't those feelings resolved when he was deeply committed in a live in relationship and having a child with another woman?
Rating: Summary: Lacks Respect For All Involved - Even The Author Review: This is an all American book and that's a shame. There are plenty of people who had affairs with people who later became mega-famous, but they don't all write books about them after their death. In fact, most don't, citing respect for those involved and one's own personal self-respect. Do not forget that Mr. Bergin is a model and his livelihood depends on his exterior talent only. After skimming (yes) this tome, I found it nothing more than a sad extension of a gossip magazine. Unfortunately, the Kennedy family will always be haunted by this kind of 'all too human' gossip. However, that doesn't mean one has to buy into it. I received my copy from the library and back it went. There is this quote on the book cover: 'Above all, The Other Man is a testament to the enduring power of love and a story about the painful choices we make with our all-too-human hearts'. Just reading this hackneyed cliché tells it all. Let the dead rest and peace and make money in a more honorable way or 'fashion'.
Rating: Summary: The Other Man Review: I find it sad how people are degrading Michael Bergin for writing this book. It was his story to tell, and just because he put a few less-than-flattering things in there about Carolyn Bessette DOES NOT MEAN they are untrue. I suspect that there are several diehard Carolyn Bessette Kennedy fans out there who cannot (or refuse to) believe she had abortions and affairs and used cocaine. Well, no one's perfect. Just because she married "American Royalty" and her life seemed like a fairytale does not make her above the average person when it comes to making mistakes and bad choices. I also find it sad how people think that Bergin just did this book for the money. He is not hurting for money, he has his TV spots and modeling gigs, it isn't like he's almost on welfare and had to write a "totally fictitious" story to keep his kids fed. He obviously loved Carolyn Bessette to death, and I don't think he would've written this book out of spite because she chose to marry JFK Jr. instead of him. That's ridiculous. All in all, I thought this was a nice book. It showed the good side and bad side of Carolyn Bessette, and it was a nice autobiography of Bergin's childhood and modeling days.
Rating: Summary: When your modeling days are over and your Review: TV Career never gets off the ground-write a piece of FICTION about a famous former lover who is conveniently dead and unable to refute the libelous and truly unflattering pictorial of her. This book is trash and the motive is obvious.
Rating: Summary: Shameless, self-promoting book! Review: Obviously, Michael's only claim to fame is that he had a relationship with a woman who happened to marry American royalty and therefore become famous. So what does any ex-Times Square model do to cash in?...he writes a book! Shame on him for exploiting her private life when there is no one left to corroborate what the truth really is. Maybe if Carolyn was still alive she would write her own book...The Other Side: My Story. Don't waste your money on this garbage!
Rating: Summary: The Other Man Review: This is a wonderful, truthful book that explores the depths of true love. I found myself wanting more...No matter how famous or powerful someone is they still fall prey to "real emotions" that the average person experiences. I think this book is a wonderful book and story that makes you feel and experience the joy and the pain of the relationship between Michael and Carolyn Bessette. I saw the interview on A & E and my heart was absolutely breaking for Michael. I am happy to learn he is happily married with a beautiful family. I respect him for coming forward and clearing Carloyn's name. I hate to hear some of the things that have been said...and he had wonderful things to say about her...when he talks about her he just glowed. I think he is very genuine.
Rating: Summary: Michael, job well done. Disregard any negative reviews!!! Review: This book and love story simply broke my heart. I feel like Michael poured out his heart with his love and affection for Carolyn. It bordered on obsession, but when you're in love, what else is there? Carolyn seemed a mystery and she was so completely inconsistent with him. Sadly, it sounded like she suffered from Bipolar disorder. IT must be hard to constantly be in the press and have to put your best foot forward just to walk your dog! Michael, you seem like a wonderful, thoughtful, senstive man who I wish I got to know years ago, as a friend. Anyone who reads this book will be touched by Michael's candor. I'm glad you've moved on with Joy and your kids. Hopefully you can put Carolyn and her memory and what you've shared in a safe place in your heart. Even when the pain of her death creeps up, would you have changed the love that you two shared so as not to feel the pain of loss? Probably not. juliestark00@hotmail.com
