Summary: Amateur
Review: I've read lots of books on the biz. This one isn't the greatest, but it covers a lot of ground.

Tons of misspellings. Strange. The funny thing is that even the author's note to his readers here at Amazon has some typos.

The reviews already here hype the book way too much. It won't save your career, or get you signed. There's no way it would ever replace having a real manager. It might answer some questions you have about the music business, but that's about all.

Good luck

Summary: solid, specific book
Review: If this is your first band, buy this book. If you're in school and think you want to have a performing music career, buy this book. If you're midcareer, this book may also be useful. And if you want to become a manager but not sure how to start, buy this book. The main attraction for all readers is that it has very specific checklists that may seem insultingly simple, but are really helpful in keeping tasks organized and everyone's energy focused. It's worth the $-$ just for the sample worksheets, suggestions as to how to keep doormen honest, and other "duh" stuff, when you consider it will probably stop you from losing at least $ on your next gig. It may not get you a record deal, but it will help keep you from pulling out your hair during the day-to-day part of building an act.

Summary: Great book! A must read for all unsigned musicians!
Review: It is about time someone wrote a book explaining the nuts and bolts of running a band! If you are trying to put a band together or you already have one formed...BUY THIS BOOK! Why waste your time making stupid mistakes when you can get this book that is full of first rate advice? I am on my second read as we speak! Great job Marc!

Summary: F-ing AWESOME!
Review: Marc Davison has provided not just a guideline for bands who are just forming, but also a source of encouragement, guidance and strategic planning for those who want to go one step further and start getting gigs. He does not promise you fame and fortune, just a step by step plan of how to best apporach your early days in the band, where to start, how NOT to get screwed over and how to handle oneself in a professional manner. I can say that his book has performed quite nicely on this point. Also, musicians looking for a kindred spirit in the music world can look no further - Mr. Davison is it.

Summary: Simply The Best For Aspiring Musicians. . . . by Shiram Noah
Review: MARC DAVISON writes in a style that is, at once, easy to read and follow, overflowing with wit and wisdom, and tremendously entertaining. Not only does he offer the most comprehensive text on what unsigned musicians must do in order to make it (he really gets into the nuts and bolts), but he also includes a plethora of amusing anecdotes about his career as a manager and musician. These anecdotes give the reader a sense of identification: he has been there before and succeeded; if we follow his advice, maybe one day we can look back and say the same.

Summary: Worth Every Cent!
Review: This book contains in a chapter what many books fill a whole book with. Finally a book that doesn't bloat itself up with endless, generic lists to fill space! The most refreshing thing about this book is the very basic level it begins on, slowly building to more complex aspects of a topic. If your just starting out and don't have a clue where to begin, buy this book as soon as possible.

Summary: Good Reading for Artists or Managers!
Review: This book is good reference material and the author shares many experiences to learn from. Overall, there is a lot of information here and it is a good way to plan, step-by-step, a career in the music business.

Summary: Great for Starters...
Review: When I decided to launch a small Artist Management company in Seattle, I turned to this book to teach me the fundamentals of how to put together a decent press kit, book gigs, etc. While it is by no means comprehensive, it gave me a good start. Very much an "Unsigned Artist Management for Dummies," the basic items and humorous anectdotes discussed in this book are easy to understand and can be a big help in creating at least a blueprint for newbies like me.
