Rating: Summary: Another Beatles' Book Yeah-Yeah-Yeah Review: Plain and simple if you love the Beatles you'll love this book- great research-great info-how cartoons on tv have changed in 40 some odd years. By the way -ya know how most of the "new" beatle books are stuff you read again and again- well not here folks!
Rating: Summary: A Must Read! Review: This book is a must read for all fans of The Beatles cartoons! It is full of little known facts that enlighten the reader about all of the hard work, skill, and luck that went into the making of the cartoon series. I never would have known that the cartoons were the product of numerous "creators" around the world, from England to Europe to Australia. I also didn't know that Apple purchased the cartoons in the early 1990's; I want them on DVD!Mr. Axelrod has done a marvellous job of telling the behind the scenes tale of the making of The Beatles cartoons. The book is very well researched and sprinkled with illustrations. Five stars!
Rating: Summary: A fun book! Review: This is a FUN book, plain and simple. It goes without saying that Beatles fans will be delighted, yet animation buffs and media students (even if they are not counted among the former) will not be disappointed. The process by which four real-life people were transformed into animated form is most fascinating. And the author has managed to find and interview many who were arms-deep into the planning and creation of the series. For Mr. Axelrod this must have been an exhausting project but well worth it, for what emerges is obviously a labor of love. The series, which seems to have had a loyal cult following for three decades after its last episode, actually predated "Yellow Submarine" by three years and served as a springboard for the latter, all hailing from an era when animation was done by hand to meet weekly demand. Profusely illustrated, my own favorite images from the book are the prototypal sketches where each of the "real" Beatles habits and idiosyncrasies are outlined as a guide in the evolution of their celluloid counterparts. And the section on the resultant merchandising from the TV series is amusing and must surely feature some new additions to the field. Mr. Axelrod has admirably filled a gap in the seemingly endless trail of Beatle history, striking a balance between the scholarly and fun, emphasis on the latter.
Rating: Summary: It's About Time! Review: What a cool book. I have been waiting for a book on the cartoons forever! Real informative. VERY detailed. It's got some great pictures. I love the character designs and stuff like the memos from ABC. Never saw any of that stuff before. The episode guide is so great to finally have. I can't wait to look for some of the errors when I watch my tapes of the cartoons. Nice job, Mr. Axelrod.
Rating: Summary: Beatletoons Review: What a great book! I wasn't even born when this cartoon originally aired, and I was 2 when the Beatles broke up, but I am a big fan of both the band and animation. I had vague memories of this cartoon, and most people my age did not remember it. I started to think I had imagined it! Then I found this book. It's terrific. Axelrod's enthusiasm for the subject is contageous, and the recollections and photos are so much fun! The author does a wonderful job of relating the series of events which lead up to the shows creation. I enjoyed reading about the people behind the scenes and their memories of working on this ground breaking show. Every episode is described, and he even points out little errors or curiosities that the viewer may find interesting. This book is a must for any Beatle fanatic or lover of animation.
Rating: Summary: A FUN READ & GREAT REFERENCE BOOK Review: With over a thousand books on the Beatles, one has to be selective in deciding which books to own. Many books repeat the same story over and over again, mistakes and all. The ones worth owning are those that cover a special part of the Beatles legacy and do so with accurate information and style. Beatletoons falls into that category. Mitch Axelrod did thorough research on an area of the Beatles ignored by most authors, those silly but charming Beatles cartoons. Although the book is full of new information, it is a quick and easy read. Details of each cartoon episode are provided. This book will be a great reference tool if and when Apple finally releases the Beatles cartoons on DVD. But don't wait for that to happen. Buy the book now. You won't be disappointed.
