Summary: Well-Written, but Doesn't Have Alot To Work With.
Review: The NY Times Book Of Broadway isa very well-written book. The typical NY Times quality and fare, with excellent additions to add spice. But this book isn't all peaches and cream. The book is a collection of Broadway reviews from NY Times. The reviews are exactly what you read from the newspapers, but that has nothing to do what's wrong with this. It had nothing to work off of, and includes past reviews, back in the days when Brantley was a nobody and wrote average reviews. The reviews go back to the 40's, but only go up to 1996, for the review of Chicago, which is probably the big highlight of this book.
