Rating: Summary: Heart and Soul Review: The authors are family. Alfonse is my father. I witnessed what was actually put into the making of this remarkable book and journey involved to achieve such beauty and romance on each and every page. Five years of their soul you will view in every photo. In the eyes of the people you see their hearts. In the detail and page you will witness their devotion and dedication to perfection. In the written words you will feel the love of culture and the differences between them. I recently heard my father say, 'This book was a gift. The idea was a gift. A gift I couldnt pass on.' This gift was not only given to him but as I feel BY him, to you.. The reader, the hairdresser, the culture seeker, the photography lover. Whoever you are, whatever you do, no matter your reason, I feel you will treasure this book, savor every word, and view it as through the eyes of the photographers...because after all, it is your gift, from them.
Rating: Summary: Poorly Made Bindings Review: The book itself was pretty good. More pictures than I would like. On a positive note, I thought the book was cool because it displayed vastly diverse people wearing dreads. People from differant walks of life and locations. Differant ages and beliefs. Differant races and genders. The only negative aspect of the book was its poorly made bindings on the paperback book. Mine fell apart in one week! Such a nice coffee table book and it's in pieces now. Stray away from the paperback or make sure it has a tight bind. Enjoy!

Rating: Summary: history of the lock Review: This book is a great example of the diversity of dreadlocks. Although many African-Americans believe locks are indiginous to black people, history proves this false. I recently discovered that my ancestors, the Mayans, wore their hair in locks. In fact, when the migrant workers came to Jamaica from India they wore they're hair locked and they also brought seeds to plant they're sacred herb. They called this herb what Shiva did thousands of years before, Ganja. The name most Rasta's call it.You can find it mentioned in the Bhagavad-Gita, written many years before the old testament.
Rating: Summary: Beautiful Book! Review: This book is beautiful. The images are sharp and clear. The photographs bring out spirit and character in the persons featured. A wonderful coffee table book! It shows that locks - all types - are truly beautiful - and spiritual, even the "cultivated" ones. This book is informative as it shows and describes the various religions and races that wear their hair locked. The blurbs are interesting and complement the excellent quality photographs. As a lock wearer, I love this book.
Rating: Summary: Superb, excellent and well thought out. Review: This book provided me with some of the best photographs I could ever want relating to "Locks" and the various styles, the people who wear them and the reasons behind them. I found it to be a wonderful aid in my own spiritual journey to grow my locks. You will love this book!
Rating: Summary: Captivating and Beautiful ... !! Review: This is an awesome book. The images are beautiful and the dialogue is totally interesting. I happen to run across this book while browsing a local bookstore. The cover photo grabbed my attention and I immediately scanned the pages. What I found were captivating photographs and interviews. Once I realized I was holding the very last copy I knew I couldn't leave the store without it ... I HAD to have it. And I will NEVER let it out of my sight. This is a good conversation book and I highly recommend it to anyone. JAH Bless .. !! Daphne
