Review: "Dreads" is a remarkable artistic achievement. The black & white photography is simply stunning. Each portait conveys the power and beauty of this ancient spiritual artform. The composition, lighting and attention to detail just knocked me out. Mastalia and Pagano have created a masterpiece.

Review: A few weeks ago there was a review by some one named Xolali, it was deep. What happened to it? We need more critical reviews by culturally aware and conscious people instead of all the fluff. I think white folks need to hear what we think about them using us (people of color) once again for their exploits and financial gains.

Summary: Happy to be Nappy
Review: After several years of hesitation, I let my locks grow, in spite of my Mother's admonition that I wouldn't be allowed in the house if I did! I did it in honor of the actress Rosalind Cash, the weekend she left the planet. I haven't looked back since. This book made me proud to be a part of an ancient, misunderstood tradition. I am so pleased to see such committment to the display of natural beauty. Thanks to "Dreads" I now know the history and legacy of my locks; I will never be convinced that my tight curls are a curse that need "fixing". I am proud, radiant, and happily nappy!

Review: As a locked hair style wearer and natural hair care provider I simply had to have this book. I mainly ordered this book to be used as a conversation piece in my natural hair salon. Well, this book is exactly that! The pictures and stories of people from different countries, nationalities and walks of life enlightened all of my clients who have read it. "Dreads" takes the reader into a whole new world about the beautiful style of locked hair. One can clearly see that Dreadlocks doesn't necessarily mean unkept and dirty hair. There are images of the Rasta's (those whose locks have formed without any or little manipulation) as well as images of individuals who chose to carefully cultivate their head of locks. I find the images/photographs to be captivating and the articles to be enlightening. If you are into natural hair styling, photgraphy or just simply Locks then owning a copy of "Dreads" is an absolute must.

Review: Awesome pictures. To "Scot from Earth" - your comments shows that like most people you don't know the ancient history of the world. The original Indians are Blacks who migrated from Africa to India (Australia, Fiji etc.)so why should it surprised you that there is braid in India?. Take a look at this book - AFRICAN PRESENCE IN EARLY ASIA.

Review: Hello all, I had the fantastic luck of stumbling across this book. It brought life to such a fascinating hairstyle. I've had many people tell me to dread my own, and I just might be inspired enough to do so now. If anyone has a scanner and owns this book also, I'd like a few of the pictures to put on my desktop, can anyone help?

Review: i find it sometimes best to inform people by simply placing a book on my desk to check out the response as well to inform....pictures are worth a thousand words! My coworkers are enthralled with the beauty of the black and white images..also the size of the images...... everyone from asian, indian, african and european decent magnifies the beauty and majesty of coiled hair....from refined american inspired locks...to the sea and salt enhanced locks of jamica...this pictorial pays tribute to the sublime beauty of locked hair. Is this pictorial exploitative as a another reviewer suggested? ..this does not appear to be the intention...the participants appear proud to contribute and demontrate a different kind of beauty. Since locking hair is a process that takes fortitude and time, this book is inspiration.
