Rating: Summary: interesting book Review: A nicely-done book by Frank Ferrante and "the son of Groucho." Lots of pictures; a glossy item. I never knew that Groucho wore a greasepaint muss-stach. I always thought it was real. "Who Do You Trust?" oh no, a different show, it was Do You Want To Bet Your Life, or something. I kid you not, this is an interesting book. Please go out and buy it. A really good o ne.
Rating: Summary: MOVING,FUNNY, ORIGINAL GROUCHO IMAGES! Review: Fantastic! This book is the best show business book of it's kind with extremely well presented text and photography. Groucho's son, Arthur Marx, provides a loving contribution to the Marx legacy. There are marvelous images (that I've never seen) of the Marx Brothers on the set of "A Day at the Races" and some absolutely phenomenal shots taken by Arthur of his father in candid situations...truly beautiful stuff. This is from a fan of the Marx Brothers and vintage comedy for over 35 years. ... Anyone who who admires the Marx Brothers and actually experiences this book will love it. Paul Wesolowski, the world's greatest Marx researcher, was a major contributor. And love and detail pervades this book.
Rating: Summary: GROUCHO FANS REJOICE! Review: Finally, some new material on the Marx Brothers! I've found the recent books on the Marx Bros. like Kanfer's and Louvish's interesting but not earth shattering. Arthur Marx's new book gives us the REAL Groucho in photos. It's a great look at a great comic artist...Arthur has out done himself. I saw his play on PBS and it is just as warm and revealing...
Rating: Summary: WOW! Words Fail Me! Review: How can I write a review that adequately expresses how wonderful this book is? Words just won't do it justice; you have to see it yourself. The care with which this book has been put together is without parallel! The photos have all been lovingly selected from a magical vault in which they've somehow laid hidden all these years, and they are exquisitely reproduced. If a picture is worth a thousand words, this book delivers a quarter-million words' worth of new insight into Groucho. Arthur has struggled to escape the shadow of his father's fame, and I think he has finally succeeded. Arthur, this book will make your father and your uncles proud.
Rating: Summary: Arthur's is a Grand Book, Nicely Done Review: I am very impressed with _Arthur Marx's Groucho: A Photographic Journey_. All photos are of high quality and most have not seen print before. I believe that over half were taken by Arthur Marx himself. The book weighs something like six pounds. The only reason that this is relevant to all but the infirm, and perhaps the hapless mail carrier, is because it denotes the quality of the paper used; more specifically: the high-glossy type of presentation that makes this coffee table book so unique within the realm of Marx Brothers books. Arthur Marx and editor Frank Ferrante (and the book designer, whose name is simply not handy just now) are to be commended on their efforts. Nicely done. Why my vote of "four stars" and not "five"? Most realtively-new Marx enthusiasts might likely give the book five stars. I guess that my lone reservation revolves around the fact that the editorial content (that meaning Arthur Marx's written observations), albeit generous in both tone and length, offer little _new_ insight to this jaded reader than, well, I guess, the fact that Groucho's breakfast consisted of half a grapefruit, two pieces of toast, and coffee). There may a few other brand-new insights that I've forgotten. (But again, I write as a long-time student of the Marxes.) At the same time, Arthur's text does serve nicely as a son's loving reminiscences of his father, and I'll take that over the transcriptions of "The Bank of America v. Erin Fleming" any day. (Besides all of that, the transcriptions do not include any photographs whatsoever. Perhaps fortuitously.) Regardless, most dyed in the wool Groucho fans will relish this expertly-executed new book on Groucho (a new book on Groucho is, obviously, reason enough for celebration). Newbies are likely to delight in it even more-so (even if, perhaps, most cannot actually afford a coffee table upon which to place it; my advice to them is "fake it"). I thereby recommend it highly. (I only wish this site allowed a vote of four-and-one-half stars. Ah well.) Kudos to all involved in this project.
Rating: Summary: Waxing wroth Review: I have nothing against Arthur Marx, but isn't this about the sixteenth book or so that he's "written" about his father? Well, perhaps we are experiencing a resurregence of interest in the Marx Brothers, what with the Kanfer books, and Lovish book, etc. But still, it would have been nice if Mr. Marx had contributed something a little more substantial than what amounts to a photo album. Groucho did the same thing when he was elderly with "The Grouchophile," which was a collection of photographs with very light commentary. My suggestion, take it or leave it, to Arthur (Groucho's one and only son) would be to either write something over and above his earlier books and plays about his old man, or give it up. With all due respect. Manfred

Rating: Summary: MY FAVORITE BOOK!!! Review: I just received "Arthur Marx's Groucho" as an early Mother's Day gift from my son and it was the most beautiful book I've ever seen. The pictures were big and clear and the story of father and son was completely moving. I recommend it highly!

Rating: Summary: Better than Harpo Speaks, etc! Hooray For Arthur Marx!! Review: I simply loved Arthur Marx's "Groucho." I used to be an actor and I played some of the Marx Brothers in plays in community theatre. So I've done a great deal of research. Suffice it to say, this is a lasting, poignant tribute to the world's funniest man by a first rate writer - Groucho's son Arthur.
