Rating: Summary: Great coffee table book on dogs. Review: This book has high quality photos with a little poetry mixed in. You can skip the poetry if you'd like, the photos stand on their own. What I like is that it really makes you run through the gamut of emotions - the photos capture the moment very well.
Rating: Summary: A great gift! Wonderful pictures and text! Review: I can't say enough about this book. It's simple and wonderful. I bought it on a whim and have since bought several more as gifts.
Rating: Summary: Great entertainment ... Review: Wonderful collection of delightful photographs of our canine friends.Paper quality is sound, the printing clear and sharp ... the photographs well taken, well presented & well reproduced ... The photographer's sense of timing is superb ... Will make you smile ... and that alone makes the book worthwhile ... The only complaint we have is ... couldn't there have been more photographs ... *laughs* ... a sequel perhaps?
Rating: Summary: Touching Pictures and Dialogue Review: I love this book. The pictures say so much and Roy Blount seems to take the words right out of the dogs' mouths. I have it out at my house and look at it over and over. Very soothing.
Rating: Summary: Great pics...even better captions... Review: Each page of this delightful book has a smile, if not an outright laugh...Pictures of various dogs, both mixed and pure-breeds in various typical "doggie acts" with the captions depicting the dog's "thoughts" on the matter... A small dog looks sadly toward the camera with " I don't understand how you can be so smitten, you have me, yet you pet that kitten."... The photos are excellent, both posed and "action" shots. No dog lover should be without this book
Rating: Summary: funny and touching Review: This is a great gift-book idea, if you can manage to actually give it away. The photos are wonderfully done, featuring both "action" shots and natural, endearing portraits. These are real dogs, not models--no dangerously thin Italian greyhounds lounging on marble terraces here--and Shaff catches all their moods, movements, and expressions. The accompanying poetry by Roy Blount is a delight as well. As others reviewers have pointed out, this isn't puppy-wuppy talk, but witty, funny, and perfectly suited to the photographs. I thought several times as I was reading that Blount must be a life-long dog owner. He knows those looks and what's going to happen next. Altogether, a truly light-hearted book well worth having.
Rating: Summary: Perfect gift for dog and book lovers. Review: I bought this book as a Christmas gift for my mother and was very tempted to keep it for myself. I would suggest buying two. Any one who loves dogs and books will appreciate and enjoy this book. Some of the pictures make you laugh and some will make you want to cry, but every one tells it's own story.
Rating: Summary: Sometimes sad, but it is great. Review: This book has pictures of dogs in various poses or situations, with a caption to accompany it. There are a few of the "stories" that might bring tears to your eyes. If you like dogs you might like this book. If you love dogs, then you will love this book.
Rating: Summary: Speaking for Dogs Review: It's so great to learn that others also "speak for their dogs"! My family and I often put words in our pets' mouths. This book takes that family tradition to a high level with the poignant grasp of the canine psyche that both the photographer and the writer seem to have!
Rating: Summary: Pure Joy Review: For a dog lover this book is the closest thing to pure joy you'll see in this life, aside from the joy your own dog brings. This is a great book to have lying about because you can pick it up on your worst day and it will bring a smile to your face. The photographer has documented some of the most ideal doggie poses, and the writer has put perfect words to each. If you have a dog and he/she looks at you with that precious face as if to say something profound, BUT you never have a camera available -- this book is for you. It captures all of the expressions you wish you were quick enough to capture. I love my copy and review it often.
