Summary: Excellent Avid Guide
Review: A well written, well covered guide book on Avid products. A true beginners guide to Avid Xpress DV, Media Composer & Avid Xpress. A very clear, easy to follow basics of these products are the essentials of any professional in Editing Industry. The most successful Avid Guide book on the market. Sam Kauffmann's way of teaching is excellent. Keep it up this good work.

Summary: This book is a really good start
Review: Being a new user to the AVID editing system, I found this book to be a very helpful guide to not only the computer interface of the editor, but to the techniques that every AVID editor needs to master.If you are a beginner, or if you are an experienced editor, this publication will guide you through many of the techniques I use every day to edit: trimming, navigating through bins, digitizing, and layering. I would recommend, though, that the serious reader have access to an AVID to try out the techniques outlined! Overall, this book (and its tutorials) would be a great help to any aspiring (or current) AVID user!

Review: Book is easy to follow, but when it says beginning, it means it! Not much for effects and not much is for the xpress. great overview and learning tool...also great references on the basics!

Kauffmann's Avid Editing provides readers with a straightforward, insightful peek into the world of digital editing without the typical user manual pretensions. Readers with little or no experience in the realm of digital editing will be able to pick up the book and learn the basics quickly and easily. Not only does Kauffmann capture such a complex, intricate topic with simple, understandable language, he has assembled a CD filled with unedited footage that accompanies the book. In doing this, he provides the means for someone to actually start editing in the digital world, not just read about it. Kauffmann's Avid Editing takes readers through every step of digital editing, from digitizing to trimming to exporting projects. Whether used by beginners or as a reference guide for seasoned editors, this book is comprehensive and easy to use.

Summary: Avid editing
Review: Honestly, Mr Kauffmann's book is a real help. I'm a person who loves to learn things on his own, but even I found myself lost at times when learning the Avid. This book does a great job taking you step by step through each part of the digital editing proccess without boring you. Like most manual books there may be a few times when you already know something, but trust me... just skip over it, you'll find reasons to need other items in this reference! Some of the most useful parts of the book are the numerical steps through some of the more complicated parts of avid. As a new editor, you will appreciate this, and if you have some experience, you aren't lost if you forget something! Mr. Kauffmann neither talks down to his reader, nor does he make things to complicated. Thanks!

Review: I used an early draft of the book to guide me through learning the Avid in a classroom setting, and it helped my understanding of the Avid and all its tools wonderfully. This book is very readable, and easy to use (especially the step-by-step guidelines, which really help when I would get confused). The chapters are very well organized and paced, setting up concepts logically and sequentially, and moving along nicely. I would highly recommend it to anyone whose always wanted to learn the Avid system! It works well in conjunction with an Avid class, as I used it, but I think just going through each chapter, learning it, and practicing with the footage on the CD-ROM is almost as good as a class on the Avid, and a lot cheaper.
