It contains over 90 pics of Audrey never before seen! It is s'wonderful!

Rating: Summary: Audrey Hepburn still speaks to us today... Review: Hi, my name is Pamela Keogh, and I wrote the book "Audrey Style." As a longtime customer (and fan) I am thrilled to be part of Amazon. (Isn't it a fabulous place for all of us fellow book junkies?)"Audrey Style" is, what I would call, a style biography of Audrey Hepburn. As someone who has worked in journalism and on the outskirts of celebrity (as a former TV producer, and editor at US magazine), I have met many -- too many -- "stars" who were the complete opposite of the image they portrayed onscreen. (BOY, could I tell you some stories!) But my sense has always been that there was a seamlessness to who Audrey was, and the image she presented to us -- this is part of her strength. And one reason, I think (other than her obvious beauty), why we are still so attracted to her. In researching this book, I had the great fortune to meet and interview many of Audrey's closest friends -- from her Hollywood days (Audrey Wilder, Gregory Peck, Rosemary Clooney and Nancy Reagan), her younger friends (Kevyn Aucoin and Jeffrey Banks), as well as today's designers who are still influenced by her (Vera Wang, Ralph Lauren, Cynthia Rowley). In piercing together everyone's memories and stories, I began to discover what made up Audrey's style. And how we can, in our own way, develop our own style. (Which, really, is what she would want us to do.) Don't you think it's amazing how Audrey still speaks to us forty years after "Roman Holiday?" You might like to know that Audrey's friends have been reading the book and Jeffrey Banks called me, ecstatic, saying, "you got her!" Rob Wolders, too, said that this is the book he is giving to family and friends. And that, more than anything, makes me happy. Because what I really wanted to do -- what I tried to do -- was bring Audrey back, so that she can grace our lives even today. Thank you for taking the time to read this. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I enjoyed writing and researching it -- yes, even the pictures! There are close to 100 sketches and color and black and white photos, and I worked hard to get images that convey Audrey's "magic" -- and that haven't been seen a million times. If you enjoy "Audrey Style" perhaps you can tell your friends. See you at Amazon! With warmest regards, Pamela PS -- If you'd like a preview of what the book looks like, it will be featured in the May issue of "InStyle" magazine.
Rating: Summary: not just another coffee table book Review: This book is as elegant as Audrey herself. The fantastic array of pictures covers the whole evolution of Audrey's style, but this is more than your average coffee table picture book. The author's prose captures the grace and originality of the life it articulates; Keogh tells Audrey's story with uncommon wit and pragmatism. The gorgeous pictures and engrossing narrative are an irresistable combination.
Rating: Summary: An inspiring tribute to a marvelous woman Review: Just finished reading an advanced copy of Audrey Style and had to write how glorious this book is -- beautiful, magical, beguiling, and filled with wisdom. Hepburn comes to life in these pages as in no other book before. When I finishing reading the last page, I wanted to go back and begin all over again.
Rating: Summary: A perfect book about a perfect lady Review: I really like this book-it really shows what an absolutely beautiful lady she was-she certainly was very sensual and sexy. She knew how to project herself without going overboard- the lady had class and it really showed. There aren't any actresses like Audrey anymore-I really miss her. I highly recommend getting this book.
Rating: Summary: The photos are superb, AND... Review: It's putting the quirky details together that makes this book more revealing than the standard saccharin drenched puff piece.
For example, Hepburn is quoted as saying that she wears a size 8 1/2 shoe, while the author clearly states later in the book that Hepburn wore a size ten.
Her mother's quotes, if accurate, provide convincing evidence that the baroness was more than a little jealous of her far more beautiful daughter.
The author's claim that Audrey "didn't eat during times of stress" directly contradicts Audrey Wilder and Doris Brynner, who claimed that Hepburn loved to eat. As for her staying so thin due to malnutrition that "permanently altered her metabolism", this can't be true; according to the author Hepburn speaks of gaining twenty pounds at one point in her youth. I suspect that in later years she simply watched what she ate.
According to the author, Hepburn washed her hair every four or five days. She SMOKED. Whew, draw you OWN conclusions about that one.
I've found Robert Wolders a bit creepy ever since I read about him in "Queenie", a superb biography of Merle Oberon. From Merle to Audrey to Shirlee Fonda; this guy clearly has a THING for wealthy, older glamour girls. He's always described as an actor/businessman. Hmmmmmmm.
I'd never paid much attention to Hepburn's style outside of her movie roles. One of the strengths of this book is its focus on her personal fashion philosophy.
Audrey Hepburn is my absolute favorite and always will be. She had many lessons to teach about tolerance, grace and kindness. No star of today can compare.
PS-I'm just tucking into the Barry Paris book, which is FAR more in depth. I recommend following Audrey Style with this one if you haven't already read it.
Rating: Summary: Delivery doesn't match topic Review: A book like this should have more pictures. The ones it does have don't have captions. The writing is fairly ameteurish but does have some interesting stuff despite being from an angle I didn't like. I didn't like the big black pages with the white lettered quotes not just because some of the quotes weren't especially good, but because you can't read the middle that is in the binding and seems to be poor quality ink or paper. All around this book is just okay, great topic, poor delivery.
