Rating: Summary: Simply Stunning Review: This beautiful book about the 'queen of style' is a treasure to own. From her films and her life to her simply chic style, this book covers it all. A lovely book about a lovely woman.
Rating: Summary: Style! Review: This book is wonderful. If you like art, fashion, film and of course Audrey Hepburn you will love this book! I couldn't put it down!
Rating: Summary: "High chic and high spirits" Review: The difference between Audrey Hepburn and an underfed supermodel is that the former on the telephone would still be Audrey Hepburn. Just listening to that warm-throated polyglot voice, you would still be enchanted and want to know more about her. Watching her, we see she was elusive, insouciant, mischievous, yet always in a framework of grace. None of this had much to do with her weight. The Hepburn who was asked by the studio to wear falsies is not the perfect image which should dampen women's self-esteem. And, her refusal to fit anyone's "mold" is a point that perhaps needs more aggressive championing. So I am not fully in support of this book. I enjoyed the pictures and, more so, the memories, but I would think that a straightforward biography of the subject would be of greater educational merit than a style guide. Many women capture the Hepburn spirit; frequently - almost always - they look nothing like Hepburn. The young should go to them, not photographers, for advice.
Rating: Summary: true inspiration Review: This is simply the most inspiring books I've read all year . . . not just because Audrey Hepburn takes as beautiful a picture as one possible could, but because she lived a beautiful--yet flawed, yet tragic--life. She was a woman of true character, true grace, and that had so little to do with her waist-line. I am a better person for knowing her life, understanding her remarkable consitution.
Rating: Summary: You didn't make an error in your review Review: I thought I would mention that under "Book Description" I read your review and all the wonderful characters she played, among them "Gigi", yup, she played this title role at the Fulton Theatre (NYC) in 1952, Just thought I'd mention it.
Rating: Summary: You made an error in your review Review: I thought I would mention that under "Book Description" I read your review and your liking Audrey to all the wonderful characters she has played, among them "Gigi" oops!... That was Leslie Caron. Just thought I'd mention it.
Rating: Summary: For the person obsessed with Audrey's ghost Review: Everyone loves Audrey. Even more so now that she's dead. True, Audrey was very beautiful, and very different than many other movie stars. But still, Audrey style requires a few things: Skinniness bordering on anorexia (Audrey sufferered with eating disorders throughout her life), very fine features and bones, and in general-- a few things not all of us are not genetically predisposed to. While it's nice to honor a woman who had her own style-- she was still someone who fits into the rail thin look many larger women fight against-- and was blessed with a beauty not everyone is born with. Unfortunately, because of this, I think this is yet another beauty book wherein the reader's confidence and god-given genetics are put to the test. I know someone will respond to this review that I'm talking through sour grapes-- and maybe to some degree that's true-- but Audrey is lifted to the level of supreme angelic goddess in this book... in a way that I found somewhat off-putting... and all-in-all the book was not really so different in its mantra than Anna Wintour and her annorexic monthly, VOGUE.
Rating: Summary: Tremendous book! Pictures are terrific. Review: This book is an excellent source of information on two of my favorite subjects - style and Audrey Hepburn! It talks about her movies, how she dressed, who she was as a person, and beauty tips. The pictures are incredible and those alone are worth it.
Rating: Summary: simple beautiful - thank you Pamela Review: This book is filled with beautifully written prose and exclusive photos that capture the class of Audrey Hepburn, her stylishness, her grace and beauty. I have enjoyed reading the book - and look forward to going through it again and again. thank you pamela - you have done an incredible job. Hoping this "book of dreams" will be launched pretty soon in Europe - it is so wonderful.
Rating: Summary: An elegant tribute to a truly beautiful woman Review: From cover to cover, this book is filled with exquisite, rarely seen photographs, elegant drawings, and beautifully written prose about this one-of-a-kind, generous-hearted, high-spirited woman. We can all learn from Audrey's incomparable grace and wisdom. This book is a wonderful tribute to her legacy. I will recommend it to all my friends.
