Rating: Summary: A wonderful book to be taken lightly Review: Some of the reviewers in this category certainly seem to have missed the title of this book: Audrey STYLE. This is the reason I bought it- to learn more about Audrey Hepburn's beautiful sense of style. Imagine my surprise at finding that it did not only discuss her fashion sense, but her wonderful personality as well! I was hoping this wouldn't be a run-of-the-mill biography, and it wasn't. Obviously if you want to read a heavy, thorough biography, this is NOT the book for you. However, if you want to read a light-hearted, stylish, and inspiring tribute to one of the greatest actresses and style icons of our time, then I highly recommend you read this book.
Rating: Summary: Great tribute to Audrey Hepburn. Not tabloid bio! Review: The last two reviewers seemed to have missed the Title of this book. Ms. Keogh clearly is saying here's a look at Audrey Hepburns "Style" because Biographys', especially tabloid type Bios have been done. Looking for such a bio in a book called Audrey Style makes you a suspect reviewer in my opinion. Reviewers with an agenda perhaps??? This is a wonderful look in words and pictures at a sometimes misunderstood, enigmatic person. The photos add to Ms. Keogh's beatiful biography which was thorough enough for my taste without the tabloidism that has tainted the memories of many great people. I loved the format which made no pretenses. Thank you Ms. Clarke-Keogh!
Rating: Summary: Pamela--get yourself help for Audrey's and our sakes! Review: This book is an insult to the memory of Audrey Hepburn. Rather than portray her as a human being, Pamela Clarke Keogh has turned her into a saintly angel, competely faultless. And with the title this book has, one would expect something about Hepburn's much beloved and timeless style--IT IS JUST A POPCORN BIOGRAPHY. Not very many pictures and really just a "Audrey is sooooo perfect, flawless, etc" repetition which is basically the book. If you want a great biography on Audrey, read the Barry Paris book, and not this cheap tribute. It doesn't satisfy for the cost of the book. Even the photos don't make it worth buying--because they are so few in number, and really aren't all that standout (except the 5-7 photos from her film career.) This book doesn't even show her Oscar gowns, or her wedding photos, nothing. This woman--a revered style icon--and just a scant few photos. In conclusion, it's a .... It has the title to make one think it all about her style on and off film, and its not--just a cheap biography. Its a ...because the book is expensive--and all you get is the author letting us in on her insecurities about not being Audrey Hepburn, and how no other person in the world--before or after Audrey--gave so much back to the world as Audrey. I love Audrey, but I don't need some writer to tell me how much I should like her, and how I should ignore all Audrey's faults--just because the author can't get over the fact that Audrey was a human being like the rest of us.
Rating: Summary: Lightweight bio riddled with factual errors. Review: This book pretends to be a stylish biography of Audrey Hepburn, and in many ways it is, but it is shot through with factual errors... What gives? Don't they have copy editors and researchers anymore?
Rating: Summary: It's like chocolate with a little too much sugar added Review: A book which captures so much of the beauty in Audrey, I am compelled to call it perfect. Indeed, I did rave about it and thought it was miraculous- until I really read it, cover to cover. It told me everything I wanted to hear; Audrey was beautiful; Audrey was elegant and graceful; Audrey was sweet and kind and gentle; and finally, Audrey was the original. As I fully read it, though, I found these things repeated constantly until they became stale and I did not want to hear about them any more. It seemed as though Pamela K. was desperately trying to make me love Audrey, and I do not think Miss Hepburn would have wanted that. It would be far more powerful to hear of something she said or did, and just know how special she was and how I can learn so much from her. Instead, I find myself being told what I ought to think of her based on these evidences. Perhaps I have gotten carried away, for the book is enchanting. The pictures are delicious and it is a very pretty read. I merely feel that it tries much too hard. Audrey was a fantastic human being. Nearly everyone who ever knew her adored her and she was really there. She was a woman who needed to love and be loved. Just leave it at that.
Rating: Summary: Superb! Review: I think this book is truly, purely, totally Audrey. The name is appropreite, it is about her style, or flare rather. It provides excellent information that anyone, fan or fashion person or film lover, will enjoy. I highly reccomend it, it's a really fun time reading.
Rating: Summary: For audrey fashionistas Review: This book is somehat hypocritical - the text urging us to find our own, individual style which is what Audrey would have wanted, among inserts urging us to slavishly imitate Audrey's clothes and makeup! The photo of the author in a very audrey-esque black turtleneck notwithstanding, this is a good effort, with wonderful photos making up for the slight and overlaudatory text. (Givenchy could have written a bit more, I thought, maybe he is not a very literary man) Check out 'Adieu Audrey', another (superior) tribute.
Rating: Summary: Spectacular! Review: This is a beautiful, fascinating look at the life and style of Audrey Hepburn. It contains a general biography and great tips on how to achieve the "Audrey Style"...it is beautiful just to glance through or to read cover to cover. Highly recommended!
