Summary: Leaves Classroom in a book - in the dust!
Review: I am learning AE, and had been going through the CIB from Adobe, and after seeing reviews for this book, decided to give it a try.
What a difference! - I went through just a few examples and learned a lot, far more efficient that the CIB, and with the extra Effects makes this book worth every nickle.
If you are learning AE, BUY THIS BOOK!
(Note that AE 6 is coming out in Aug 2003 - so this will be a little out of date in a few months - but still will be the best set of books out there).

Summary: Excellent
Review: I won't reiterate the praise that other reviewers have lavished on this book, though I share their sentiments. I just want to note that the book might be a bit overwhelming to absolute beginners. The information comes in a flood. By all means buy this book, but take the time to get familiar with AE's interface first, before launching in on the Meyer's text.

I was an occasional AE user who had to suddenly focus on the software for a particular project. I was delighted to find that the Meyers answered almost all of my nagging, long-term questions about the program as if they had received a printed wish list from my subconscious. I look forward to ramping up my AE skills with their other works.

Summary: Chocked Full of Useful Info!
Review: This book really made me look deep inside After Effects and unleash its real potential. I thought I knew it pretty well, but Chris and Trish Meyer run you through all the tools and techniques to get up and running creating motion graphics with After Effects. No wonder this book is used in so many college programs!

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Not the best, but it's decent.
Review: This book takes you step by step in a very methodical matter, making sure you don't get too ahead of yourself. But it kind of stops there in terms of its plus sides. Some of the downsides include the excessive use of text to illustrate simple points, and also the content/examples are uninspiring to work with. Other than that, it really covers all the basics in detail, or at least enough to get you feeling comfortable working in After Effects.
