Rating: Summary: It's About Time Review: I saw "The Passion of the Christ" & I would like to thank Mel Gibson for having the guts to produce this film. I thought the movie was awesome. What amazed me even more was how after the movie was over, there was not one word spoken by anyone in the whole theatre. It was as if everyone was in awe of what they had just seen & were pondering over these things. I personally do not know how anyone could watch this film & not be affected by it. It was the most powerful film I have ever seen in my life. I always knew that Jesus suffered for all of our sins, but this film made me really realize just how much he suffered. As far as all this talk about the movie being anti-semitic, I just did not see that at all. I think what people have to realize is that Jesus WAS Jewish & that it WAS his own people who wanted to crucify Him. But just as Mel Gibson tried to explain in interview after interview, what we also have to realize is that it was not only the Jews that crucified Him, it was ALL of us because ALL of us are guilty of sin & ALL need to be saved from condemnation. That is why God sent His only son. It was His plan, the only way that humanity could be saved. So to say that this film is anti-semitic is not true. Mel Gibson did go by what the scriptures say. If this film would have been filled with sex or any other kind of secular violence, not an eyebrow would've been raised & there would not have been any controversy over it at all. That is how our society is today, unfortunately. I say it's about time someone had the guts to produce a movie such as this one, no matter how much controversy it stirs. I have to question if the reason why those who are against this movie just might be so because they don't want to hear or face the truth about what our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ did for us. I, for one, walked away from the movie with a renewed attitude that I wanted to be a better person & live more like Jesus because of what He suffered through for me. I think there will be many people who accept Jesus as their personal Savior & who want to start living more like Him as a result of this movie. I would really like to see a "sequel" to this movie which would show more about the resurrection of Jesus or maybe more about His entire life. I think it's great that Mel Gibson stood firm in that even though he knew he probably wouldn't get any endorsements for this movie, he felt that it was something he had to do so that people would see what Christ did for all of us. Even though it was hard to watch the beatings & how the people treated him, I am so glad I saw the movie because it really did make an impact on my life. I am looking forward to seeing the book.
Rating: Summary: Had to read: Review: Though I am normally a Non-Fiction,Memoir type of a reader with books such as Beauty For Ashes and Nightmares Echo toping my list. I had to buy this book and read it. For the most part because of the Hoop-la surrounding the book and the movie. What I got was a creative emotional book that brought me to tears. An anmazing and powerfully well written book. I also went and seen the movie as well. I did the right thing by buying the book first and then after reading it go to see the movie. It is as its name says "passion". Passion and convictions and beautifully told. It is a must read for this book, It is a must see for the movie. Mel Gibson shines in all of his glory and you see through his eyes the belief in his heart. Just Powerful.
Rating: Summary: Falsehood Review: As a citizen of Israel, I completely reject and condemn "The Passion of the christ". It is a work based on falsehood: Mel Gibsons work is heavely influenced by the writings of the deillusional mystic/nun Anne Catherine Emmerich. Furthermore, Gibson promised to remove all references to the line from Matthew 27. Although Gibson removed the English subtitle for the line, the words remain in the film, spoken in Aramic. Both the book and the film are falsehoods and should never have been made.
Rating: Summary: A comment on the film. Review: 'The Passion' has got to be the greatest movie on Jesus Christ that was ever created. It deserves more than 5 stars. I heard someone comment that many Jewish individuals have suffered more than Jesus during his passion. But remember, what makes Jesus Christ's trial and death so dramatic is not just the horrible physical pain that he suffered; but the fact that he was totally innocent and without sin his entire life, which is a character trait that none of us can truthfully say that we partake of. And as the Lamb of God, he physically and spiritually bore the weight of all the sins of creation. Besides, if we think that just the degree of physical suffering alone is the only thing worthy of merit in life, than we should show greater respect towards roaches and ants than to people. However, we must also remember that it wasn't every Roman and Israelite that hurt Jesus and made him suffer, but those few nefarious individuals that happened to have Roman citizenship or who were of Jewish decent. And they were surely people first before they could ever be categorized by anyone as being Roman or Semitic. Both Christians and those of Jewish faith would be mistaken in generalizing any ethnic and religious group and not considering them as individuals, especially the two groups that make up the Gospels. The former, because we would wrongly assume that every Roman and person of Jewish faith is bad; and the latter, because those of Jewish faith would wrongly assume that every person of Jewish decent is good no matter who they were or what they did. Common sense will tell us that no human group, religious or otherwise, has ever been totally good in its makeup throughout all of its history on Earth. Also, I think Mel Gibson's film seems to stress the point that the majority of the human race is bad. All sorts of other people tend to differ on this viewpoint. This is an debating issue concerning the movie and book that unfortunately nobody wants to debate about since the anti-semitic accusations are so strongly in play.
Rating: Summary: This Has Changed My Life Review: I watched this movie yesterday. I had not been to the movies in over 3 years because no other movie has been able to draw me in, until now. I am a movie fanatic...I own hundreds of movies and I watch at least one every day, but I can honestly say that this is the most powerful movie I have ever seen. It has literally changed my life. I grew up a Catholic but have been away from the Church for a few years now but after seeing this movie, I want and need a closer relationship with Jesus. I can't stop thinking about this movie. I ordered this book and the soundtrack today and I can hardly wait to get them. The admiration and appreciation that I have for Mel Gibson is beyond description. His courage is amazing and inspiring. I love this movie! I love Mel Gibson and I love our Lord Jesus Christ!! By the way, I'm going to see it again next week.
Rating: Summary: the passion Review: ...Mel Gibson obviously cares about the Lord, he was brave enough to make this movie(which cost him 27 million dollars) even if he might have been ridiculed for it which is what you are doing right now. It is an amazing movie and I read Mark in the bible. Some of the lines in the movie are EXACTLY what jesus said, such as, "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?" Mark 15:34. Jesus DID suffer in such a way that is depicted in the movie. Even the pope said, "It is as it was." Please consider the hard work and dedication that was put into this movie. I don't want this comment to discourage ANYONE from seeing this movie or reading the book, because both are amazing.
Rating: Summary: Awesome Review: I highly recommend this movie to anyone, the movie is the complete opposite of the message below mine, this movie is awesome and worth seeing!
Rating: Summary: Excellent film. Excellent book. Review: Whether beautiful or horrifying, the scenes from Mel Gibson's gutsy epic "The Passion of the Christ" represent some of the most powerful imagery ever presented on screen. For anyone profoundly moved by the passion of Gibson's masterpiece, this book is a fine way to explore the film further. Ken Duncan's photos vividly bring the film's haunting beauty to life on the page, while the foreward gives Gibson the opportunity to explain how his unyielding faith made this film necessary and possible. For once, you can read Gibson's motives for making a film faithfully based on the Gospels without distractions from an intrusive and biased scandal hungry media. An excellent film. An excellent book.
Rating: Summary: Life Changing Review: As a Christian and Bible & Theology major, I found Mel's portrayl of Jesus last 12 hours to be very accurate to the 4 Gospels. There is no hatred like lots of critics in denial would like to say..but as we know for fact, the truth will set you free. There is so much love that its almost too much to take in. This is real according to history, real according to science, and definitley real according to scripture, what more could you need? I believe we need to meditate daily upon the sufferings of Christ as well as the Love! Jesus did say: "Do this in remembrance of me." May the love of God flow into the lives of everyone!
