Summary: A Great Look At a Great Movie
Review: "The Passion" compiles scenes from the controversial 2004 film release "The Passion of the Christ". It was wonderfully written by movie director Mel Gibson. Though there isn't much writing in this book, the photos alone offer a great prospective of the movie. The writing that is contained wonderfully illustrates the events in the photos and the Bible quotes that influenced the individual scenes. The photos, taken by Ken Duncan, alone offer a great emotional impact to the readers, especially the graphic details, though nothing beats the movie. They alone tell the story of the environmental mood and the characters' emotions. After the compilation, "The Passion" offers a brief but interesting behind-the-scenes look at the movie filming. It shows how Mel Gibson led the cast and crew to complete this triumphant project. This book is a great keepsake to remind people of the movie's impact.

Summary: A stunning book!
Review: A stunning book of a stunning movie by a gutsy film maker! Spectacular photos and text to look at until you go see it again or while waiting for the DVD! Consider getting the soundtrack at the same time as looking at the book while listening to the soundtrack is an experience in and of itself.

Summary: People...this is an Inspiring film to the whole world!
Review: A stunning epic of the final hours of the life of Christ, Mel Gibson's 'Passion', 2004, is a "must-see" film for all audiences, not only Christian viewers. The 2-hour depiction is by no means just a director's interpretation of a story, but a masterful attempt to visually recreate the events written within the 4 Gospels of the Bible, and gives the Christian viewer an in-depth and detailed look into the heart of their own faith. And if you disagree with this faith, are undecided, or in ironic terms "unaware" of Christianity, it is time to let this film (as well as, and not at all forgetting, the Holy Bible) speak to your heart.

And now a FYI to those who feel that the film has reflected racial animosity towards the Jews or to the Jewish culture in general (i.e. that this group alone was responsible for the death of Christ)...let me clarify a valuable point to you: the director himself has openly declared to the public that his film was solely to depict Christ's suffering and passion for the world and for all cultures within it...Jews and all. It was not to point fingers at who in particular was responsible. Mel's intent was simply to follow the events as they were written in the Scriptures. Any individual coming against the film in the regard of it being anti-Semitic needs to re-study the 4 Gospels, for obviously they lack prior knowledge of what is contained in them. All I am saying is that Gibson did his homework; I don't know about anyone else. He even added that "those who are saying these things aren't coming against me or my movie, but against the 4 Gospels of the New Testament." Yes, the Jews may have cried out for Christ's crucifixion 2,000 years ago, but Mel let us know that "because of our sins, we ALL have a part in being 'spiritually' responsible and guilty for putting Christ on the cross."...

If one thinks the life of Christ was simply a myth with no truth-or just a fictitious story that we should use as guidelines to live by on a moral basis, then that is one thing...However, I truly believe that this film has and will spark religious awakening for all of us, and cause us to re-evaluate ourselves and our purpose in this life we live in.

..." He indeed was wounded for our transgressions, and bruised for our iniquities. He died that we might have Eternal Life with Him in Heaven and live forever. ..

This motion picture has captured the imagination of the entire globe, and if you haven't yet seen the film in its entirety, please do yourself a favor and go to a theater near you or purchase it on VHS or DVD.

Summary: The Passion
Review: I found The Passion of the Christ to be the most moving and evocative cinematic experience that I have ever experienced and would encourage all of humanity to view this film. The accompanying book is beautiful and provides a great source of inspiration to one. In my opinion the movie and book are historically accurate in the depiction of Christ's passion. I would strongly recommend sharing both with mature children. This movie is much needed in this world of hate, violence, war, addiction, famine, disease and evil. The fallacious and malignant accusations of Anti-Semitism are nothing more than a misleading attempt to obfuscate the "TRUTH". As for the movie being violent, yes it is. History is violent; as if the scourging, crowning with thorns, carrying of the cross and the crucificion of Christ were not? In comparison to the filth Hollywood regularly depicts this movie is far less violent. I believe that the overwhelming response to The Passion of the Christ illustrates how hungry the world is for the infinite love of Jesus Christ.

Summary: A Fitting Tribute to The Passion
Review: An excellent value, this book captures some of the film's most profound moments in vivid photographs -- the Agony in the Garden, the torture by Roman guards, the bearing of the cross and numerous other, unforgettable moments in the film are captured between these pages. The book also has detailed citations of the scriptures that show the extent to which Mr. Gibson followed the literal reading of the Gospel. A superb value in its own right quite apart from being a companion to the film. As far the film, one caution: this film is rated R, but younger children watching the film with parents (at least when I saw it) had a hard time of it. If parents take their children, they ought to prepare them and take an active role in trying to explain and understand the The Passion.

Summary: "The Passion" is a must read and must see
Review: It's hard to describe the impact this movie has had on my faith and the book has only enriched it. Mel Gibson and everyone involved in the making of this film have truly done a service for mankind. For those who experience "The Passion" on film, both the soundtrack and the book help to put the sincerity in which this film was created and the incredible faith of Mel Gibson in perspective. I can't express my gratitude enough and hope everyone who chooses to see this film will walk out feeling the incredible love Our Lord has for us and a renewed appreciation for His sacrifice.

Review: This book together with the soundtrack gives a solid "prelude" for those who have yet to see the movie. I'm still waiting for the screening in Singapore Very captivating photos. My copy just arrived today and already its out on "urgent loan". The photo of Mel Gibson in the forward with his "spiritual armour" is fantastic. A true keepsake for any Christian/Catholic.

Summary: A Pagan Version of the Passion of Christ
Review: If you would like the idea of sitting around in a coliseum, eating popcorn and watching Christians being fed to the lions, then you will just love this film.

Rather than being a film that focuses on the mind and spirit of Christ, it is a film that focuses on a blood-orgy. This movie is not about the spirit; it is obsessed with blood and seeks to overwhelm the senses.

Rather than being a film about Man in the image of his creator, this is a misanthropic film with a degraded image of humanity. It does not show much that is salvageable in humankind, unlike most dramatizations of the Passion and the Bible itself.

Rather than being a film that strives for historical accuracy, this is a film that takes numerous "artistic" liberties, but then hides behind the claim of "historical accuracy" to justify its excessively violent imagery and its historically inaccurate portrayal of Pilot as thoughtful and conflicted.

For a version of the Passion that portrays the sublime (which is what passion plays should be all about) listen to Bach's St. Matthew's Passion. Bach's work does not show hatred for humanity, nor does it appeal only to the senses, as this film does. Bach engages your mind and your spirit so that you become a participant in the ongoing unfolding of the Christ story, rather than a mere spectator of a violent spectacle.

If you want a film that is faithful to the Gospels, see the Gospel of John, which was released just a few weeks before Gibson's blood orgy. Again, it appeals to your mind and spirit, rather than titillating the senses with excessive blood and torture on the silver screen.

And if you want a good truthful account of the Passion, look for Raymond E. Brown's two-volume "Death of the Messiah". This is a very thorough and thoughtful book.

It is hard to image the kind of person who will be watching Gibson's film over and over again for enlightenment. It is also hard to image young people watching his film for any kind of edifying effect. Finally, it is hard to imagine this film as having a lasting positive impact on Christianity beyond the possibility of arousing curiosity (one would hope) among what has become a mindless public that demands that it be shocked by increasingly more graphic violence.

This is Paganism, in Christian clothing. Welcome to the terrordome or the Roman Coliseum.
