Rating: Summary: Great Story and good book Review: Mel Gibson, the writer! Well, I don't think you need any review to know what is set here before you. This is going to be a good movie, no doubt. People say the book is always better than the movie though. Mel's view and portrayal on this everlasting moment is monumental in the least. He has a great mind, and I could see Jesus right now loving this moment; because the moral of this story is "telling" people about Jesus and God...and that is always a good thing.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. -JOHN 3:16 [...]
Rating: Summary: And let the debates begin! Review: Rarely has the level of hype for a motion picture reached the heights (or depths!) being engendered for THE PASSION as directed by Mel Gibson. The camps of religious groups both pro and con await the Ash Wednesday opening of the film, but in the meantime Tyndale House Publishers has released this book THE PASSION apparently to assuage the fears of the public, but more to prepare the audiences for the quality of the film before it opens. The book is brief, with an introduction by Mel Gibson that reads from the heart of a devout man, portions of (coincidentally!) the Tyndale New Living Translation of the Bible, along with Aramaic and Latin quotes that reflect the language used in the film The photographs of the Garden of Gesthemane, the trial before Pilate, and the various stations of the cross, and the final crucifixion are expressionistically gut wrenching in their demonstrating the brutality of which man is capable. Jim Caviezel is agonizingly real: it is difficult to imagine a response other than pain and pity at the very least when viewing this event that altered the course of Western Civilization. Each image is classically framed and artistically created. If anything, this book will more than likely draw more doubting viewers into the theater to see what Mel Gison has achieved. A beautiful art book - with a message.
Rating: Summary: awesome Review: This book contains some totally awesome pictures from the film. The book is beautifully constructed. The binding, jacket and paper are very good. I buy books all the time and I am amazed that this book sells for only $17.49. I could not be more pleased.
Rating: Summary: Experience The Passion Review: Words are inadequate to express my awe upon opening this book. I have not seen the movie, obviously, but it is hard to comprehend how overwhelmingly real it must be after looking at these breath taking stills. The quality of the book itself complements the significance of the message, although a familiar one, which you will never think of the same once you have been forever affected by these stirring images of our Lord during his "passion." Mel Gibson's artistic expertise, along with his deep faith, has given us, the viewers, a visceral experience by which you will feel the torture and sorrow as the story unfolds in front of your eyes. My entire family, which includes 18 and 23 year old sons, each took turns looking at the book. We were all mesmerized and silent at first, and then began to share with one another the impact of realism on each page and the traces of a heavenly hand upon each picture. There was no need for words to accompany the photographs, yet words are provided in the form of a narrative, as well as the actual scripture. If you are a Christian or are attempting to find your spiritual identity, view this book. Since I received my first copy, I have purchased three more to place in my church, the public library, and the high school library where I teach. The price is unbelievably fair for what you will be getting. Seeing the book made me just that much more anxious to experience the movie. This is truly an inspiring work.
Rating: Summary: Incredibly moving - a must have Review: Anyone who has seen the trailer for "The Passion of the Christ" knows what a moving and powerful film this will be. This book is full of gripping photos that bring to life what the last twelve hours of Christ's life were like. Looking at these pictures is much more real than anything I've experienced before, through my own imagination, of what the crufixion and surrounding events were like. The book also contains relevant Bible verses. Until now, I don't think I ever had an understanding of what Christ endured. This book is a must-have for all Christians and for non-Christians who wish to further their understanding of Christianity. God-bless Mel Gibson, Jim Caviezel and everyone else involved in the making of this film and this inspiration book.
Rating: Summary: Photos from the movie/ Bible verses - great for Lent Review: This book is based on the movie and the movie is based on the Holy Bible account of the event and "The Dolorous Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ", so how can it be "inaccurate" as the other "reviewer" said? Hope you buy the book, see the movie (and buy the DVD when it comes out) and judge for yourself. That's what I'm doing. Me ke aloha pumehana
Rating: Summary: Very significant Review: In the personal thing, the movie made me meditate a lot about Jesus' passion. In this respect of the book of Mel Gibson, three very distinguished blocks have been able to stand out: Fondness: Jesus and Mary, their mother. Pages 24 - 25: Jesus with their mother hugging her and giving him an affectionate kiss after tossing him dilutes when he is rinsed the hands. Pages 38 -39: Jesus is captured and Mary is able to feel the pain of him under the floor where you he is chained. Pages 92 - 93: Spectacular contrast, initiate after Mary's memory when Jesus very boy falls when trying to reach the tiers. At once help to their son Jesus to be able to get up when he attempts an effort to lift the heavy cross, in route to the crucifixion. Suffering: Jesus is punished with lashes. Pages 60 -61: Beginning of the first lashes. Page 69: Jesus after the second harrowing lashes. Excellent the biblical appointment of Isaiah 52:14. Page 83: Jesus after the punishment in route to loading the cross. Excellent view of an imposing Jesus in front of their destination. Destination: Jesus and their final future. Page 5: Requesting to God. Excellent the biblical appointment of Matthew 26:39. Page 13: In spite of the betrayal and the abuse cures the Roman soldier attacked by Pedro. Excellent Luke's biblical appointment 22:51. Finally, good work of Mel Gibson when publishing the pictures of the movie. Jesus' life is really interesting and I am getting a personal interest in analyzing all source related to him.
Rating: Summary: Wonderfully done! Review: Wonderfully done, like the movie! The pictures are just as touching as the film. The book touches on the most important scenes, the relationship between Jesus and Mary and the suffering He went through in the end. It doesn't fail to point out that Jesus rose from the dead also. This book clearly communicates the purpose of Jesus dying for us and that He is God. It has brought me closer to the Lord and I'm sure has had the same effect on other people. It's also a great way to introduce Mel Gibson's film to friends.
Rating: Summary: Spectacular Imagery Review: This book captures some of the breathtaking images from the movie "The Passion." Combined with relevant scriptures, both from the gospel and Old Testament prophecies of Christ, the images allow one to really meditate on the suffering of Christ, each step of the way.
The pictures follow his ordeal that began in the garden, as he prays to the Father. Each step is captured in a stunning picture or two. That ends with his death on the cross and then a visual image indicating his resurrection. This is akin to a visual tool to follow the stations of the cross and allow their significance to sink in. In that way, this book becomes interactive as a prayer and devotional tool.
There are also some pictures of the filming of the movie that provide a glimpse of Mel Gibson and the actors setting the stage for the movie.
I think this book is a must-have for anyone who appreciated the movie The Passion or for anyone who is a Christian but was not willing to endure watching the suffering of Christ in the movie. Although I strongly recommend the movie and the book, the book offers a more bearable way to see what he endured and to appreciate his sacrifice for those who avoided the movie.
Rating: Summary: Where are the memorable images? Review: OK. If you're going to create a pictorial accompaniment to a controversial movie, AT LEAST PUT IN THE BEST PICTURES!!!
"The Passion of the Christ" intersperses stills from the movie with snippets from the passion section of the gospels. But whatever its value as a devotional or meditative aid, it is missing nearly all of the over-the-top images from the movie. There's no snake in Gethsemane; no clear image of Satan; no Jesus hanging off the bridge; no demon children hounding Judas; none of the nastiest scourging scenes; no long stairway to ascend with the cross; no shroud image on Veronica's cloth; no flipping Jesus on his face; no shoulder dislocation; no eye-piercing crow.
Virtually none of the images that stayed with me from the movie are included. I wonder why not? Were these scenes too gruesome when transferred to the printed page? Or were they rendered silly when they could be studied at leisure? I can't figure out Mel Gibson for adding these gruesome scenes to the film. I understand less why he left them out of the book. Weird.
