Rating: Summary: Great Little Book for Buying Good Wine on the Cheap Review: I know very little about wine (except what I like) and always assumed the more you paid ($15 to $20 to ?) the better the wine. I've actually taken this book into the store to help me buy good to excellent quality wines (wines I really liked) for only $8 to $12. Straight forward information. NO "wine speak".
Rating: Summary: Great Little Book for Buying Good Wine on the Cheap Review: Since using this book the quality of the wine I drink hasdefinitely improved. And I'm spending less--I've consistently foundexcellent wines for under $10. I appreciate that they add up the results of a bunch of wine competitions--it's not just one guy's opinion. If what you are after is a concise shopping guide that helps you find great wine, then this is your book. I keep it in my glove compartment at all times. Great guide!
Rating: Summary: A different -- and smart -- wine guide Review: This isn't your typical wine guide: Rather than providing the opinions of one or a small panel of supposed experts, this guide "mines" the data from thousands of blind taste tests from major wine competitions. The Guide presents the results clearly and concisely, calling attention to "bargain" wines that deserve a closer look because they're especially good for the money. I'm an engineering kind of guy, and so I like this guide's straightforward, no-nonsense approach. It doesn't dress up or romanticize wines. Rather, it gathers the data, does the math, and gives you the results. If you're accustomed to traditional wine guides (as I expect the reader from New York was), be prepared for a shock. The Wine Watch Guide strips away all the subjective stuff (which, if you find it valuable, is covered adequately in myriad other guides), and instead presents something truly useful: clear, easy-to-use lists of darn good (and inexpensive) wines that can be found in common wine shops. If you're into high "wine culture," this isn't your book. But, if you want a handy, practical guide that helps you find the best common wines, I've found nothing better than the Wine Watch Guide.

Rating: Summary: wine guide saves $ and palette Review: Wouldn't you like to have some idea about a wine before you buy it? This guide provides an "at-a-glance" look at mainly domestic, award-winning wines. It distills hundreds of wines into easy to reference varietals and vintages. Even the novice wine drinker can easily locate a bargain and make selections with confidence, which is what this inexpensive guide is for. I use it all the time and have found some fantastic bargains that have my friends thinking I'm a wine expert. (The editorial review says clearly that it covers mostly U.S. favorites-perhaps the New York reader should pay more attention to the reviews before writing them.)
