Summary: A Must-Own for Wine Lovers
Review: I've found a very helpful little volume that every wine-appreciating individual should tote on a daily basis. It's the 2000 Wine Watch Guide, and it includes a number of comprehensive lists of award-winning wines from all over North America. Most major grape categories are featured in their own award-winning lists, plus the book features a number of mixed variety lists highlighting both award-winning bargains and wines that grossed the most awards, period.

The book has proven very useful to me at the local wine and spirits shop (one of my favorite haunts)--because it's such a streamlined little collections of the continent's top vino offerings, I can carry the Wine Watch Guide right into the store with me and search the shelves for names that grace its pages. I've found some very tasty selections using the Guide, and I've found some great bargains too; I've even started to recognize some of the more reliably good vineyard names, because they often show up many times in the Guide.

The beauty of wine is often a fleeting thing, completely dependent on how many bottles of a lovely vintage are produced, so you can imagine my delight when I read in the 2000 Wine Watch Guide's introduction pages and discovered that this is actually the fourth edition of the Guide; it continues to be reissued each year, with all new competition results being figured into its makeup.

Now, if you're swayed by pictures, this book isn't for you--it's strictly useful text, but that's all, you won't find scenic views of California. Neither will you find lots of helpful recipe tips suggesting how to serve different wines--it isn't that kind of book. However, the 2000 Wine Watch Guide does contain hundreds of wines well worth checking into. If you need to know who was named this year's best, it's there. If you need to find some good, reasonably priced wines, you'll find them. I highly recommend the 2000 Wine Watch Guide for anyone who wants to find some great wines, fast.
