Rating: Summary: Time saving cookbook that doesn't skimp on flavor Review: I'm a working mom with two young boys. When I cook, the dishes have to come together in 30 minutes or less. This cookbook delivers that! The recipes are sure things (the apple crisp is the BEST) and they are delicious.
Rating: Summary: Satiating the Hungry: Good Food with a Side of Fun Review: Julia Child may be more famous then Faith Heinuer, but she sure isn't as cool. In today's market where most cookbooks take themselves way too seriously, Cooking FUNdamentals is a clove-scented breath of fresh air. Heinauer's love of food permeates every page. She's a bona fide yet down-to-earth gourmet, and her skill and savvy are showcased in a retro, minimalist package. She is both respectful and irreverent, garnishing every page of FUNdamentals with sass and wit. The book is primarily designed for 'new cooks,' but Heinauer never talks down to her audience; she encourages culinary experimentation, risk-taking, and lightening up in the kitchen. While never preachy, she tries to bring social consciousness into the kitchen, extolling the virtues of local-grown products, vegetarianism, multi-cultural awareness. Heinauer's enthusiasm is infectious - she makes you want to try new things. While many who buy the book may simply prepare the delicious recipes, thereby learning the basics of cooking technique, Heinauer gives her readers ideas as to how personalize recipes, to flavor them according to the their own unique sense of taste and daring. Heinauer acknowledges the artistic and scientific aspects of cooking and entertaining, noting that things don't always turn out perfect - but there's always a lesson to be gleaned. And to paraphrase - "What's the worst that can happen? There's always take out."
Rating: Summary: Good and easy! Review: This cookbook has a clean layout with easy-to-use recipes that are simple and very tasty. The recipes are modernized comfort foods (the French onion soup and buttermilk pancakes are now family favorites!).
