Summary: A LOVELY AND INSPIRING TRIP TO THE PAST
Review: Too bad this lovely book is out of print. It is a month-by-month gardening companion that is filled with Victorian advertisements and postcards on every page. Every page has so many beautiful scenes..You could spend all day flipping through the pages. But the real idea behind this gorgeous book is the old-time Victorian gardening advice that's also on every page. Such wonderful advice never goes out of style. It's particularly valuable for the organic gardener, who wants to enjoy her or his garden in the most natural way possible.
This book (even though it's by a totaly different author) makes a great companion to the "Mrs. Sharp's" Victorian books by Sarah Ban Breathnach, such as "Sarah Ban Breathnach's Mrs. Sharp's Traditions: Reviving Victorian Family Celebrations of Comfort and Joy." (also highly recommended!)
Books such as these are charming reminders of a simpler way of life, when families were closer than they are today. If you are a gardener, and long for the old-time ways, this book is for you. If you are NOT a gardener, but love old-time things, then you'll love perusing through this stunnig book, and dreaming of long-ago days when life was simpler, small joys were treasured, and people took time to drink in the beauty of nature.
