Rating: Summary: Healthy, tasty, simple Review: I have a stomach condition. The treatment of this condition calls for me to eat a lot of unprocessed foods. I thought vetarianism would be a good way to go. I bought this book with a "yeah, right" attitude. I didn't believe that the recipes would be anywhere near as tasty as they look, and if they were that tasty, they certainly would take hours to prepare. Well, my cynical self was pretty well spanked by Linda Gassenheimer. None of the recipees I tried took over an hour to prepare, and i'm sure that when i do them again, they'll take half that time. I haven't had any meat in almost a week and i don't miss it at all. And the recipes are DELICIOUS!!! Since I have been on this diet, i have lost 3 pounds, and since i have a cold right now, i've done it without excercise! Although, as pointed out, some of these recipees do take about 45 minutes, the portions are so large, that they last 2 days anyway. So basically i only cook 3 days a week anyhow. This book has saved me time, and made me healthier. I'm sorry i doubted you Linda.
Rating: Summary: Vegetarian Nausea in an Hour! Review: It took a full hour and every pan in the house to make Gassenheimer's "Black Pepper 'Tenderloin' with Sesame Noodles" (p. 112)--the worst meal of our lives! Sickeningly sugary, I mean lie down and wish you were dead sickening. Turns tofu to dead dough. A horrific waste of good shiitake, a ruined evening. DO NOT EAT THIS DISH, EVER!

Rating: Summary: Not worth it Review: My husband and I purchased this book recently and we have found that we should have saved our money. The recipes we have tried have been...well not terrible but definately not worth the effort. The instructions are clear and I think that anyone could cook from this book. The recipes just aren't very good. They lack flavor, visual appeal, and I would really like to know what four people she is feeding with a recipe that calls for a pound of potatoes. So if you are thinking about purchasing this book I would advise you to look a little more and find something that will help you create more enjoyable meals for yourself and your family. In other words don't waste your money.
Rating: Summary: Not worth it Review: This book is good but with a few problems. Almost all of the dishes are made to serve 4. I'm not sure how big these 4 people are supposed to be, but I find that most of them serve 8-10 people. I made Stanley's Casserole Soup thinking I could get 2 weekend meals and 2 lunches for work out of it and ended up putting 1/2 in the freezer. I'm single so to me this is a vast waste of food. I LOVE that she includes nutritional information for each recipe though. I cook from this book at least once a week, the skillet pasta pie being one of my favorite recipes, but now I'm more careful with my measurements so as to not waste food. This book is not for the beginner vegetarian chef, and I'd steer clear of the gumbo and jambalaya recipes, but all in all it is worth the buy.
