Rating: Summary: Quick, Healthy and Pretty Tasty Review: This is a great cookbook for beginning cooks or people who do not want to spend a lot of time in the kitchen, but are tired of the same old recipes. Most of the ingredients are easy to find even in small grocery stores, and none of the techniques are too difficult or send you running to the dictionary. Most of the pans, dishes and implements are on-hand in even the skimpiest of kitchens. There are some great twists on old favorites, especially soups and sandwiches, and many helpful, informative tips that would be beneficial to new cooks. None of the recipes takes longer than 45 minutes, and many have do-it-ahead steps for the night before. Almost every recipe is accompanied by a photo of what the dish should look like, and suggestions for presentation. It's a visually appealing book, that makes you want to try the recipes. Some of the recipes may be a little bland, but that could be more the healthy cooking than a flaw with the actual recipe. This cookbook was given to me nearly 6 years ago, and I still use it several times a month, and have given numerous recipes from it, and have also purchased it for more than one friend who likes food but hates fat and calories. It would be a great gift for a beginner or someone who's interested in learning a little more about cooking, but doesn't want to invest a lot of time in great meals and doesn't want to spend any more time on the treadmill.
