Summary: CUTE & FUN
Review: By now you know what these Gooseberry books are all about & what you can expect: down-home recipes & decorating/crafting ideas by "regular people" accompanied by cute line drawings. One book in the series is pretty much like any other book in the series. I suppose everyone has their favorite book(s), depending on what recipes are in each. I really enjoy these books; they have some cute ideas for celebrating the holidays, and many of the recipes are very imaginative. My only complaint is that I have found that many of the recipes seem poorly researched; the directions aren't always very clear and the results aren't always very good. I have at least 10 of these books and I've tried many of the recipes, so I know what I'm talking about. Of course, whether or not you like the results of a recipe really depends on what you personally like. That's no different than it would be for any recipe. I have just found that I've been disappointed with the end results more times than I've been happy. And YES, I am an experienced cook! I think with these books, you just have to read the directions VERY carefully before you decide to go out & buy the ingredients. Think about what the end result might be, or you may be sorry you tried it.

Overall, cute books, but there are much better tasting & better researched recipes to be had elsewhere.

Summary: Wonderful collection of recipes and other neat stuff
Review: I own all four books in the series and this one while my least favorite is also helpfull for x-mas preporations. Mostly dealing with christmas it does have a chapter on new year's(american) and valentines day. I thought the X-mas section had more cookie recipes than any thing else, but hey, one can never have too many cookies.

Summary: Absolutely Neat!
Review: This book is just typical of the Gooseberry Patch recipe books. There are great recipes sent in by customers and friends of the two women who started this catalog. The recipes are always good. I have not tried one that has been hard, used wierd ingredients, or didn't turn out excellently. There are nice comments at the start of each recipe suggesting pairings (applesauce is great with these pork chops, for example). And the end of each recipe is usually a little quote, a nice drawing, or some other little bonus. Although there are no pictures of the meals prepared, this series of Celebrate... are great cookbooks. Celebrate Winter is one of my favorites. I have made some great soups that I have not been ashamed to take to potlucks out of this recipe book. Great cookie recipes as well.

This is a cookbook well worth the money.

Enjoy.
