Summary: The best cookbook for simple and special foods!
Review: I got this as a gift. It is a gift that just keeps on given'. If it were in-print, I wld give it to several of my family and friends for gifts. One of the best cookbooks I have on my self! BRING IT BACK!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: The best cookbook I've ever seen.
Review: I got this book as a freebie back in 1983 with a newspaper subscription. Although I no longer live in SoCal or get the LA Times, it is by far the best of all the cookbooks I own (and I own many!). The cheesecake recipe alone has made me famous (I have modified it) amongst all my friends and it is constantly asked for for parties. I would love to be able to give this as a gift to others...please bring it back!

Summary: BEST COOKBOOK EVER! (from a Brit!)
Review: I have had a copy of this book since 1983 when I was living in California as a Nanny. 21 yrs later, it has been moved from country to country and is now a UK resident! It is still regularly used, but is falling apart! I desperately need a new copy! Please, please reprint!

Summary: Favorite cookbook
Review: I like many others got this cookbook as a freebe for a subscription. I have used it constantly since 1983, so much so the pages have turned yellow & are starting to get loose in the book. It is probably the best cookbook I have ever had & would love to buy one for my daughter, now that she is out on her own. I no longer live in So Calif, but find each recipe interesting with the little blurps they give on the background of each recipe.

Summary: A Gift From brother, Joe
Review: I really love this book. I owned it and it wasa gift from my brother, Joe, many years ago. I've used the recipes many times! The sugar cookie recipe is the best ever and the pumpkin bread recipe is also. This year, 2001, I just cannot find it, I misplaced it when we redid our living room. I am so mad and sad, but happy I found it here at amazon. I made the sugar cookies anyway, from another cookbook, but they were just not the same.

Summary: Best cookbook in my entire collection!
Review: My copy of this book is so frequently used that it is not only stained and tattered, but has actually split at the binding into three sections. Originally a Californian myself, I can attest to it's authentic representation of California cuisine. Not limited to the stereotypically healthy California recipes like Soybean burgers (pg 318) and Zucchini Lasagna (pg 309), this cookbook truly represents the incredible diversity of culture and taste which is California.Filled with delicious and party-impressive dishes like Chinese-style Buffet Salad (pg 109), The Los Angeles Times California Cookbook also offers several authentic Mexican recipes like Jicama Salad (pg 86) and numerous "real-family" dishes like Barbecued Pork Chops (pg 285), Steamed Chicken and Vegetables (pg 224), and Hamburger Loaf (pg 260).I not only recommend this as a mainstay for any cook's kitchen, but everyone has been so impressed with the meals I've prepared from it that I've given several copies as gifts. Now it's time to replace my own copy.
