Summary: Go ahead & cheat with Healthier Eats!
Review: I found this cookbook to be a lifesaver for me. It gave me ideas on diet and nutrition I hadn't thought about before. Yes it tells you to reduce fat but not only that but exactly how to figure your grams of daily fat according to your calorie intake you need in a day's time, although extreme calorie restriction doesn't seem to be a factor here, but it emphasizes the importance of healthier ways to prepare your food and ways to substitute, probably ways you may have never thought or read about before. Some cookbooks out there are so harsh on fat and calories that you won't stick to making the recipes a part of your everyday life because well, the recipes are so bland and who wants that? I know because I've tried many and this one is different in that way. It also lets you know just how important some fat is in a diet and why. Fiber is also mentioned and if you get this book, which I highly recommend you'll find out just how important fiber really is to losing weight, etc. It even has a list of High Fiber foods, making it super easy to do.
I use this cookbook constantly for quick and easy meals. They obviously were tested for taste and texture. Isn't that something we're all looking for in a diet? You really feel like your cheating, but if your starting to watch your fat intake and exercise as I've started doing, these recipes in this cookbook, "Trim Waist-Not-Taste" by the way I LOVE the name of this cookbook, will help you see that is not really that hard to cook healthier meals to start to make a difference in your diet. The smoothies are great in the mornings as they're a meal just by themselves & I use splenda sweetner with these with great results! Most of the smoothie recipes are for 1 & 2 serving, which has been convienent for us. It also includes the nutritional data of calories, fat, and fiber and if your on the W.W. diet you know this is very needed to figure those points up. My sister-in-law has a copy and uses this book for that.
I've tried many of the recipes with great shock just how good they really are! Libby's Zesty Chicken Twist recipe is so colorful and pleasing to the eye and simply delicious. It's a meal worth savoring, beats the socks off one of those frozen dinners that we all who are dieting seem to be used to. This freezes beautifully and I take it with me to work and heat up in the microwave and everyone wants to know what smells so good. Only 15 % fat are from calories too. I've found many of the recipes freeze very well. The MARINATED POT ROAST is a recipe I use to make in my slow cooker while I'm at work and it's so tender and refreshingly good at dinner. If your into salads for lunch the TANGERINE SALAD is supreme with lots of fruits, lowfat yogurt and yes even some sliced almonds. I made it and shared with some of my coworkers and they wanted to know how to get the book! I also love the Grilled Chicken Kabobs, which I make on my George Foreman Grill & only 9% of calories are from fat. There's also a Non-Fat Topping for Veggies recipes that my whole family uses on Baked potatoes instead of butter now. The Lemon Fried Rice is a winner in my opinion. I've made the SPAGHETTI SALAD a lot this summer using lots of fresh tomatoes from our garden, a real treat on those hot days. Oh yeah the Fresh Fruit Trifle is Yum, Yum and so is the BANANA SPLIT DESSERT, it only has 87 calories a serving with 9% calories from fat and 5g. of much needed fiber. My whole family loved it! There are still many recipes I am going to try but so far I've been very pleased with the ones I have made!
Our doctor has recommended we follow a better diet and this book has been helpful and a realization to my husband and I that eating lowfat can be delicious and fun. I've lost a total of 12lbs so far while cooking from this cookbook and exercising 3 times a week on my glider machine, and my husband has lost about 16 lbs. I don't think you'll be disappointed with this cookbook, because of all the variety. I've found many recipes to use in my diet for a lifetime without feeling deprived. Some of them I know by heart now and use them all the time! I LOVE IT!!

Summary: Maximum Tastebud Pleasure to a Skinner measure!
Review: I'm so excited to write this review to let others know these recipes in this cookbook are really delicious, without a whole lot of time and effort to make these lowfat recipes. I've been reducing my fat intake and I've tried quite a few of the main dishes and found them to be very easy without a lot of complicated ingredients, most I already had in my pantry. My cholesterol level is slowly coming down and I've even began to lose some weight. You just gotta try the recipes to know how simple and easy they really are. It's real easy to figure up weight watcher's points too. Without these recipes and the great tips I've began to use in this cookbook, I don't think I'd be doing as well in my weight loss plan, because my family likes a lot of the recipes too, so I usally don't have to make 2 different meals, because these recipes not only satisfy me but my family too. It's a healthy way to go. There's no guesswork about how much to eat because the fat and percentage of fat calories and calories in each serving is listed for each recipe. I recommend it to anyone looking for some quick and easy lowfat recipes to add to their lowfat menu.

Summary: Major Disappointment
Review: There are so many good cookbooks on the market today that I assumed this one would be up to the contemporary standard. It is not. This may have some value to someone who has never seen a cookbook before, but if you're committed to improving your diet and have any experience at all, you won't find much help here. Just one example of what you will find: The way to lower fat content of foods? Use lower fat ingredients!

Many recipes seem quite high in calories, though perhaps they are "reduced fat." One recommended breakfast was a "Morning Sunshine" muffin and a Smoothie, total 570 calories. That's a lot of calories for a diet breakfast.

I bought this as a gift to my wife based on the recommendation posted by a nutritionist and one other glowing review. I was misled.

I've lost 34 pounds in 5 months, and have found the recipes in Volumetrics of greatest help; I am also addicted to Rachel Ray's turkey burgers and a few of her other lower calorie offerings in 30-Minute Meals. But just about anything professionally published that comprehensively lists nutritional information would be a better choice than this one.

There are alot of Helpful Hints in the book as well. I am going to try the Lemon Glazed Salmon and Baked Fried Chicken to name a few and many more.
