Rating: Summary: Takes you home Review: Doris has taken ideas from her own household and others to fill this book with ideas of bringing the family together around the table. This is her mission and a very valid one in today's world of two income families and rush, rush, rush. Although there are some good ideas, I found it to have a little too much fluff to up the page count of this small book. But I still believe in the book's intent and will be giving copies to my brother and friend for them to get ideas for raising my nephew and godson.
Rating: Summary: An inspriational, fun and motivating book. Review: I enjoyed reading about all the ideas for making mealtimes more enjoyable and doable. We can all learn some things from the creative ways families of all shapes and sizes come to the table to enhance their family beliefs, values and traditions. It is a great "Slow Down" book, that will make you stop and think what am I doing to connect with my family, neighbors and friends. Great ideas to make those connections that last and last. This book shows there are is always something more we can do no matter what we are doing now to spend time with our families. Everyone needs to read this book to feel like we have not totally lost traditions and a family feeling. It was a great inspiration for me. I hope others will feel they can do some of the same ideas to help put families back together.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful home companion Review: I think Come to the Table shares a lot in common with other home companions -- like Martha Stewart's series and Simple Abundance -- but I loved this book even more for its warmth and the passion the author has for her subject. Many great ideas as well.
Rating: Summary: Increasing Family Time Review: In missing the way things use to be, we often miss the value of the role the kitchen or dining room table has played within a family. Nothing can replace the memories of time spent at the table. "Come to the Table", reminds us of a time when things were simpler and family moments were more frequent. It shows the value of quality time and the little things we can do as family members to catch a glimpse of yesteryear. The book gives real life examples of things that other families have done to bring life back into the family. Whether it is having a special plate and awarding it to the person of the day or a special display on the table, the book will change the way the reader looks at mealtime, homework, or game time around the table. Come to the Table" is written for families, and those persons within the family, that want to increase the constructive time spent with family members. Even by implementing just one of the ideas within the book, the reader can capture time so it becomes a special moment. It also helps build self-confidence in some members of the family and allows all of them to look forward to the time spent around the table. This book should be required reading for all members of the household, but especially those responsible for each family member's welfare.

Rating: Summary: A heartwarming and beautifully written celebration Review: What a warm refreshing rekindling of family values at a time when we seem so helpless against the spread of hate and destruction! This book gives not only hope but shows the simple ways for love to triumph in the battle. Here's one for the dipper!(soup ladel, that is)
Rating: Summary: She's right on... Review: With her assessment that the time honored tradtion of family mealtime is going by the wayside. This book is a light read, warm and motivating at the same time. She offers ideas and memeories all designed to help restore the family tradtion of eating together. And while I do believe she's right on, that as a society we'd be better off if we implemented some of her ideas, there simply wasn't enough there to fill a book. There's little information offered on nutrition, actual food prepreation tips, avoiding TV during the dinner hour, how to's on controlling cranky toddlers, etc. There wasn't enough REAL information. I appreciate the fact that she wrote the book, our society today needs it!
