Rating: Summary: Definitely a book to pass by Review: Bought this book based on reviews and because I wanted to have add some vegetable dishes to my meals. These recipes had some very expensive and little used spices in them. Butternut squash is constantly used throughout the book, not an easy vegetable to cook with. Both my husband and I religiously tried these recipes but they took alot of time and at times bland.
Rating: Summary: Terrific vegan cookbook! Review: Every recipe I've made so far from this book has been excellent. I feel like a gourmet chef. Definitely recommended.
Rating: Summary: The best vegan cookbook available Review: I bought a lot of vegan cookbooks when I first became vegan, and this is definitely the best. I have liked pretty much every recipe I tried, and there are still many post-its flagging promising recipes that I haven't got around to yet. You will see similar recipes in other books and magazines, but for easy preparation, good instructions, and taste, this is the best one-stop source book. I have just bought two extra copies to send to family members whom I will be visiting over the holidays.
Rating: Summary: simple Review: I bought this on a whim, and have been extremely happy! The recipes are excellent, easy to prepare, and delicious. The recipes themselves are well written and easy to follow, and the ingredients are easy to come by. It's gone from a "curiousity" purchase to one of my favorite cookbooks! Highly recommended!
Rating: Summary: Consistantly great recipes Review: I bought this on a whim, and have been extremely happy! The recipes are excellent, easy to prepare, and delicious. Rating: Summary: Deedee Review: I collect vegan cookbooks and like to read them for fun. This is one that I wish was not a part of my collection. The recipes sound unappealing and taste as they sound. There are much better cookbooks.
Rating: Summary: tried and true for 3 years Review: I have a lot of veggie/vegan cookbooks, and I can ALWAYS find something in here. The recipes are simple, not time consuming for the most part. There are A LOT of recipes in here- I keep finding more to try.. This is a definate staple book. I was shocked to see the one bad review it got. I think if you're not willing to broaden your spice rack, you may as well keep eating typical american fastfood. I had all of the spices he calls for..nothing out of the ordinary for a vegetarian diet! A true must have, really! Don't let the bad review scare you.
Rating: Summary: Newly Vegan? Confused? Start here! Review: I love this book. The recipes are terrific and simple to make. Solomon's introductions to basic foods whose benefits or preparation may be new to you (they were to me!) are extremely helpful. The recipes are low fat, tasty and pliable -- you can add or subtract ingredients without collapsing the taste. A great place to start...
Rating: Summary: Highly Recommended!!! Review: I own this book as well as "How It All Vegan" and I have to say this is by far the better cookbook. "HIAV" is great, but "150 Vegan Favorites" gives you simple straight forward recipes that don't rely on simulated cheese or meat to prepare a tasty meal. I have yet to prepare a flop out of this cook book!
Rating: Summary: Better vegan cookbooks available Review: I recommend this cookbook in my book "Creationist Diet." I do as my book includes a chapter on "The Benefits of a Vegan Diet." But since following a vegan diet can be rather "strange" to many people, those desiring to follow such a diet need ideas on just what to eat and how to prepare it.However, as I tried using this cookbook more after my book was published, I didn't find it as helpful as I thought it would be. The recipes simply are not that appealing. I've made a few of the beans recipes, but that's about it. I've found other vegan cookbooks to be more helpful, such as "Simply Vegan" and "20 Minutes to Dinner." So if I ever publish a new edition of my "Creationist Diet" book, I'll probably omit the recommendation for this cookbook and substitute both of these other ones.
