Rating: Summary: The one I turn to again and again! Review: I've had this cookbook for 6 1/2 years and it's stained, spotted and spattered! I use it so much! After reading some of the negative reviews I just had to add my two cents. Granted, some of the recipes are truly horrid, but you'll find bad eggs in any cookbook you buy. My favorites are the Red Bean Beef Chili and the Caribbean Chicken with Bananas. Practically everything I've made has turned out delicious. The author has excellent information on crock-pot cookery at the beginning (including how to add the best flavor to your food--always saute onions first! and why crockpots are safe). I had another crockpot cookbook but gave it away because I never used it.
Rating: Summary: Misleading title Review: If this is the best slow cooker cookbook ever, the previous ones must have been pretty bad.
Rating: Summary: The Most Incorrectly Named Cookbook Ever Review: If your idea of a great crockpot cookbook is one which allows you to throw in a few fresh ingredients and come home to a savoury aroma and a great meal - then this book is not for you. It has more pre-packaged, processed, canned and preserved ingredients than I have ever seen in a cookbook. Also, many of the meals take a few hours on low - no good if you need to have things cooking while you're at the office. This book was one huge disappointment.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful book! Review: Of the many crockpot books I've used, I liked this one the best. I'm a vegetarian and have had a hard time finding crockpot recipes that didn't focus on meat. This book had an excellent vegetarian section and soup section. The spiral binding of the book makes it particularly easy to prop up and use.
Rating: Summary: Two Strikes and You're Out Review: The two recipes from this book that I prepared turned out to be virtually inedible. On page 102, the recipe for Ranch-Style Brisket and Beans does NOT require that the dried pinto beans be presoaked. The dried beans were simply cooked in the slow cooker for 10 hours. (Anyone who has ever cooked dried beans knows that they must be presoaked before cooking.) After 10 hours of cooking, the beans were tough and crunchy. YUCH!!!After cooking the beans for another 10 hours, the beans were deliciously soft and edible. The second recipe that I tried, Winter Beef Stew with Apricots and Prunes, made me suspicious when it called for adding WHOLE dried apricots and WHOLE pitted prunes. Who would want to eat a whole piece of fruit in one mouthfull, I thought, so I chopped up the dried fruit before adding it. However, the sauce, comprised of beer, brandy, sweet spices, and marmalade was much too heavy and overspiced. Even when I diluted the sauce with water and cous-cous, the sauce had an unpleasant taste. This is a poor combination of spices and flavorings. Perhaps half of the flavorings would have been a nice combination.
Rating: Summary: Worst Slow Cooker Cookbook Ever! Review: There are many much better slow cooker cookbooks out there...Mabel Hoffman's for example. I made two recipes from this book and both were barely edible. The combination of ingredients in most of the recipies are enough to prompt a gag reflex! ... Do yourself a favor and look into buying a different slow cooker book.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Reference Review: These recipes enabled me to expand on the usual beef stew, pot roast, etc. recipes that came with my slow cooker. I particularly like the White Bean Turkey Chili.
Rating: Summary: This book is a crock Review: This book was a major disappointment. Among the 9 or so main dishes my wife and I have tried in this book, there was only one we really liked. Particularly aromatically putrid was the Normandy Chicken with Apples recipe, whose aroma was so nasty that when I came home from work and smelled it, I left again. The Beef Stew was like eating beef in water with red food coloring. My wife and I are avid cookbook users. We follow recipes faithfully, and usually we're pleased with the results. That was not the case here. I note that we did not try any of the recipies for appetizers and snacks, the soups and chowders, or the desserts. Perhaps this book redeems itself in those areas. As for the main dishes, try them at your own risk.
Rating: Summary: Fabulous easy recipes for those work-to-carpool days Review: This cookbook helps get the maximum use from your slow cooker. Special advice on use of seasonings and cooking times results in unique and delicious meals. Crock meals are a great way to improve nutrition for families with kids who eat at odd hours because they're teenagers or involved in activities. This book uses up-to-date frozen and prepared ingredients for added convenience, and has fun ethnic and dessert recipes.
Rating: Summary: My dog wouldn't touch the food from this book! Review: This cookbook was a real disappointment. We've tried 5 or 6 recipes and none of them were any good. My husband started calling my crockpot the crap-pot because the recipes from this book were so bad. Even our dog refused to eat the chili from this cookbook. There are many other good cookbooks out there for crockpot recipes. Stay away from this one!!
