Rating: Summary: An Absolute Must Have Book! Review: I have admired Linda Amendt's beautiful entries at the California State Fair for years. Imagine my delight to discover she has now written an outstanding cookbook, sharing all of her wonderful preserve recipes and special preparation techniques with the rest of us! Reading this book, it is easy to see why she was the Top Preserved Foods Competitor in the United States for 2 years in a row. While I am sorry to see her retire from competition, the insider information about fairs and the intricacies of the judging process that she reveals in the book will raise the level of competition at fairs across the country. Every fair competitor better buy this book if they want to win awards.Anyone who enjoys preserving should own this book!
Rating: Summary: A Great Foundational Book with Extra Reach Review: I have recently gotten the canning "bug" and have looked at several books. Linda's book is very comprehensive with a wide array of recipes, from the basic to unusual. I am looking forward to trying the caramel apple butter and others. If you do not want to use commercial pectin or want to try jars other than the basic "Ball" jar, you will find Linda's book to be fairly conservative on these issues. However, It is a wonderful book that I will use for many years to come.
Rating: Summary: Awesome Book! Review: I love this book! It has helped me so much. I love to cook and home canning was something I wanted to try. This book gave every detail I wanted or needed to know, very inpressive. People praise my canned goods, but all the recipies came from this book. The knowledge in this book is so vauable. If you compete in fairs this book is a must!
Rating: Summary: Excellent Book.. Review: I oredered this bood because I had not yet found a book on canning and preserving that covered the basics but was also creative. This book is absolutely precise in it's descriptions and directions for safe home preserving, but goes the extra mile as Ms. Amendt tells you exactly how to make your preserves rise above the rest. Her combinations are wonderful, never weird. This was the first book on canning to include EVERY recipe.

This compendium of just under three hundred delicious recipes is enhanced with a complete canning guide that includes the very latest methods and safety precautions for preserving. From Cherry Cider Jelly; Apple-Apricot Sauce; and Caramel Apple Butter; to Nectarine Jam; Coconut-Pineapple Conserve; and Dilled Green Beans, Blue Ribbon Preserves offers something for every taste and every table!
Rating: Summary: Outstanding book for beginners or veteran canners Review: The author -- who is one of the top-winning home canners in the country, with more blue ribbons and "best of show" awards than anyone else, gives you all the benefit of her decade of experience trouncing other competitors at state and county fairs across the country. Her recipes are so clearly written that even novice preservers can start with this book, yet sophisticated enough in flavor to satisfy veteran canners. You might need to buy two copies, because the pages will soon be dog-eared, spotted with canning stains, and crusty with sugared fruit from all the recipes you will no doubt try. I made the best, most transcendant peach jam of my life from this book, and I'm no expert. This book is well worth it.
Rating: Summary: A MUST HAVE FOR ALL CANNERS Review: This book is a must have for anyone interested in canning - beginner or experienced canner. It is very well written and extremely easy to read. It has very helpful information on every part of the canning process. I personally am not interested in entering my goods in any fair contests but the information was very interesting and would be very helpful to those who want to enter the contests. I am very pleased with the amount and variety of recipes in this book. All in all, I recommend this book highly!!!
