Summary: One of the best!
Review: I have been an active and enthusiastic baker for over forty years and I felt like 'a kid in the proverbial candy store' when I began to read this book. A couple of years ago I bought many of those small, colored 'post-it' flags so that I could mark interesting recipes in all of my cookbooks. I got them out as I started into the first chapter and I have marked 47 recipes thus far and I haven't even made it into the "L's" as yet! Ms. Yockelson not only understands the chemistry of baking extremely well, and provides very valuable tips, but she is adventurous and unfailingly enthusiastic about what she does. How refreshing and how wonderful for us to be able to benefit from her efforts. I recommend this book most heartily to anyone who loves to read about food, to create food, and, of course, to then enjoy it.

Summary: Best Baking Book Ever!
Review: I have been baking and cooking since I could reach the stove and have always enjoyed especially now that I am older. This is the only book you will need to bake whatever your heart desires since the recipes are easy to follow and you can successfully interchange some ingredients and still get the best results!
I love the fact that this book has the recipes in sections according to their flavors and also has a very helpful bakeware, storing and freezing info for all the items. I am espscially pleased about the info on the different flavoring ingredients as to what they are and how they are best used.Everything I have baked from this book has gotten rave reviews from all who have tasted them. I have even gotten orders from people to bake some cakes- they think it's my own recipe!!!! It's the only baking book you'll need!

Summary: Not for the faint of heart
Review: I have made several things from this cookbook--drop and bar cookies with chopped-up Reese's peanut butter cups in them, a coconut cake, coconut cookies with a variety of dried fruits--and they were all quite good. (The coconut cookies with the dried fruit were especially delicious.) But this cookbook definitely is not for anyone who is watching their fat or calorie intake! Virtually every recipe contains plenty of eggs and/or butter and/or other dairy products. Recipe instructions are very detailed and clear and are easy to follow.

Summary: Outstanding book- but 1 terrible flaw
Review: I have tried a cart load of recipes from this book and have blown away. The only problem with this book is that while the author explains ingredients in the front of the book she does not discusse how to measure flour. Any baker knows that different methods produce differnt amounts of flour, such as scoup and sweep as opposed to spooning it in to the cup. As a result my 1st recipes were very dry using the scoup and sweep method. this is the only flaw in the book, and with some uniqune recipes, this is sure to be a classic some day.

Summary: Best Cookbook in my Huge Collection
Review: I love to read cookbooks. I've gotten more hints, tips, and new baking techniques from this book than from any other I own. I've loved to bake for 55 years. This book is a MUST have. And *I* paid full price for it, and it was WORTH IT!

Summary: What an amazing book!
Review: I'm a pretty accomplished home chef, but terrified of baking. I picked up this book thinking the idea of it was pretty sound. Well, you would think I completed a 2 year internship in France to hear how my friends and family talk. Don't get me wrong - not all the recipes are the proverbial piece of cake. The author assigns a star system to each one, 1-3, with 3 being the most difficult, mostly yeast products and puff pastery concoctions. I do think I will try some of them soon, however, because she really walks you through everything and helps you complete your projects, successfully! I made a couple of recipes already, and have been astounded by how complex the flavors are in the finished product. In the carrot cake, you taste the pinapple, the coconut, the carrots, all as if they were in an intermingling mosaic. The recipes are pretty easy to follow and the results are well worth it. I highly recommend this cookbook!

Summary: Best Baking Book EVER!
Review: If you love baking, know someone who does, or just collect cookbooks, you MUST add Baking by Flavor to your collection! Lisa Yockelson has done a fabulous job of not only bringing you the most scrumptous recipes, but amazing tips and ideas throughout this BEAUTIFUL book. Each recipe is written with attention given to texture, dough consistancy, ingredient characteristics, aroma, and much more. You can almost taste the recipe simply by reading her detailed instructions. There is obviously a great deal of heart that went into each recipe in this book. This would make a wonderful gift for anyone!

Summary: This Has Gotta Be A Classic Someday!
Review: If you really like to bake then this book is for you. Each chapter is an alphabetical listing by flavor and just about every single recipe is almost (but not quite) over the top. And why not? Why be a boring baker? This woman is a genius. Enjoy!

Summary: Baking By Flavor Delivers Delicious Results
Review: Last Saturday I made the Ultra Lemon Cake for guests I was having over that evening and the cake turned out perfect! My guests raved about the flavor and moistness with words like: "bursting with lemon flavor" and "it's lemony all over". I am not a baker. I think the last time I baked a dessert was to slice cookie dough from a tube. Lisa Yockelson's book has changed my attitude and way of baking forever. I must admit that I was nervous about baking adventure, but with the book's step by step instructions and helpful hints to guide me I didn't have any trouble. I recommend this book to novice and expert bakers alike. I was so pleased with my results last week, I made the cake again today and once again it turned out perfectly.

Summary: A splendid book
Review: Lisa Yockelson is a perfectionist and a superbly gifted baker. The recipes are wonderful, and turn out perfectly. The mud cake is a must-try; easy to make, with flavor and texture that greatly exceed the effort involved. Highly recommended.
