Rating: Summary: It's Awesome! Review: I started the Atkins diet about a month ago and lost over 22 pounds since. And this book helped me do it! There are so many recipes for beef, chicken and pork, I've used the book now for 3 weeks and haven't repeated a recipe (if I did, I wanted too!) and I haven't been disappointed. The book clearly states the guidlines for the carb count, and very few are over 10 grams per serving, so this book is a MUST for the Induction Dieters! I've enjoyed things like chicken in a white wine-cream sauce with mushrooms; a ham steak with a cream-mustard sauce; and chicken breasts stuffed with cream cheese covered with mozarella. My husband and I keep asking each other, "Are we really dieting! " This book is a must have for the low-carb dieter, and I assure you, you won't get bored! As my nine-year-old step daughter says -- "It's the BOMB!"
Rating: Summary: Great food, wonderful suggestions Review: If you don't have this cookbook in your collection of low-carb cookbooks, you may be missing many excellent ideas and recipes. There is a large section of recipes for ground beef patties (or ground chicken or turkey)which for me offer a needed change from eggs for breakfast. There are tons of chicken, beef, pork, and seafood main entree recipes, all quick to make, and very tasty. I have cooked up many of the recipes in this cookbook. Many of my friends who have been the beneficiary of the recipes in this book have asked where I got the recipe. I have sent a lot of friends to Amazon.com to get this cookbook! The chicken pizza is one of my favorites, as well as the chili without beans, and the lasagna recipe. This is my primary low-carb cookbook. It uses all normal ingredients I usually keep on hand. I don't need to buy special spices and condiments just to cook these yummy recipes. I might add I have lost 25 pounds in five months using these recipes and recipes from two of my other favorites: Lauri's Low-Carb cooking, and Everyday Low-Carb Cookery.
Rating: Summary: Truly Gormet Food for Low Carb Dieters Review: If you're bored with your current low carb menu and are looking for a cookbook containing fresh, new recipes the whole family will enjoy, you need Barbara Doyen's book, Back to Protein. These recipes are absolutely mouth-watering; even my two-year-old enjoys this food and begs for more. I found the Atkin's diet difficult at first because before starting this diet I seldom ate meat. These recipes have kept me from feeling deprived; I've lost 13 pounds using these recipes so far and have no doubt that I will be able to continue losing. I do not miss my old way of eating at all because of Barbara's recipes. Favorites recipes so far are Pork Tenderloin with Mushroom and Tomato Cream Sauce (page 126)and Citrus-Ginger Pork Chops (page 118). Do yourself a favor ... buy the book!
Rating: Summary: If you really like pork rinds... Review: Many of these recipes are very similar. She really, really likes to use pork rinds - an item that turned me off right away. Some hard to find items are called for, and she asks for specific brand names. I will give this book another try, since I have it, but it has been mouldering on my shelf for quite a while. Since this book is kind of pricey, I'd recommend you try some others first.
Rating: Summary: Great New Cookbook for Atkins Dieters Review: The reason the Atkins Diet has worked for me is that I love meat. So I was very pleased to find "Back to Protein," with a new assortment of recipes for main-course meats. (The reviewer who wanted more egg recipes in the book should have read the title before buying: it's "The Low Carb/No Carb Meat Cookbook.") Lots of recipes for beef, pork, and poultry, and even recipes for less popular meats like lamb and game, plus some seafood recipes as well. The only gripe I have is that the recipes do not include actual carb counts, only a classification of low, very low, trace or no carbohydrates. Those who have to be extremely precise in their carb-counting will need to figure out actual counts on their own. Other than that, the book is tremendous, as variety is something we all seek in our low-carb way of eating.

Rating: Summary: Lots more than hamburger Review: The reviewer who felt that all the hamburger recipes were the same didn't try the recipes that I did. I thought there was a big variety of hamburger choices, besides lots of other meat recipes that are fast to fix. My family was happy with the way the recipes tasted and I don't think you'll find as complete a protein cookbook anywhere.
Rating: Summary: Meat Eater's Delight Review: This is a good cookbook for low carb eaters who love meat: any kind, any cut, any preparation. Haven't tried all the recipes, but haven't found one yet that didn't make a tasty dish. Two complaints: 1) the use of carb categories (low, very low, trace, etc) instead of carb counts makes diet planning a little more guesswork; and 2) too many recipes are but minor variations of one another. Still, it's a handy book to have if you're disinclined to eat low carb gourmet at every meal
Rating: Summary: Meat eater's delight Review: This is the best meat cookbook I've ever seen. You don't have to be on an Atkin's style low-carb diet to enjoy the recipes given here. She also gives health reasons for eating meat. Another reviewer said she used a lot of pork rinds but that isn't so. A few recipes call for those but if you're not on a low-carb diet, you could easily substitute another breading. This is a must for all meat lovers.
