Summary: Thank goodness........
Review: .......there is finally another low-carb cookbook on the market! After cruising the bookstores and finding very little but low-fat (read: high-carb) cookbooks, it's great to finally have another resource. My very critical husband has loved every recipe I've made from this book. The Cheesy Baked Salmon (or haddock, or whatever) is awesome! My only criticism is the lack of accurate carb counts. Those who are just starting the diet need to know just how many carbs are in a serving, not just "Low = 10 grams or less" or "Very Low = 5 grams or less." Of course, anyone with the time and a copy of Corinne Netzer's "Complete Book of Food Counts" could figure it out, but it would be nice to have the information for each recipe already there.

Summary: Wow--what a GREAT BOOK!!
Review: Anyone who has ever experienced low blood sugar should order this book and try these recipes. Barbara Doyen really understands that low carb or no carb means just that... As a diabetic, this book is especially helpful to me--no more boring burgers--this is a terrific find! When is the next book coming out, Barbara?

Summary: Truly Gourmet Food for Low Carb Dieters
Review: First and foremost, read the title ... this is a MEAT cookbook. Do not expect to find non-meat low carb recipes in this book. It only covers meat, and does an excellent job of suggesting a variety of ways to prepare ... meat!

If you're bored with your current low carb menu and are looking for a cookbook containing fresh, new recipes the whole family will enjoy, you need Barbara Doyen's book, Back to Protein. These recipes are absolutely mouth-watering; even my four-year-old enjoys this food and begs for more.

I found the Atkin's diet difficult at first because before starting this diet I seldom ate meat. These recipes have kept me from feeling deprived; I've lost 40 pounds using these recipes so far and have no doubt that I will be able to continue losing. I do not miss my old way of eating at all because of Barbara's recipes.

Favorites recipes so far are Pork Tenderloin with Mushroom and Tomato Cream Sauce (page 126)and Citrus-Ginger Pork Chops (page 118). Do yourself a favor ... buy the book!

Summary: Buy this Wonderful Book.
Review: Great recipes - teriffic writing-good anecdotes-wonderful drawings - from head to toe this new cookbook is a total winner and hey, I don't like to cook. Doyen has crafted a real winner and I found myself reading it from cover to cover in one sitting. Then I made out a grocery list and started cooking. I liked the fact that you do not have to have a culinary degree to use all the good stuff in this book and for my meat loving family - Back to Protein is like an early Christmas present. Move over Julia Childs. Barbara Doyen is on to something here. Have some fun, clear your plate, get cooking - buy this wonderful book.

Summary: Not quite what I expected
Review: I bought this book through amazon.com mostly because of the great reviews and the many recipes it had for ground beef, our choice for easy cooking. Little did I know all 29 recipes would be different variations for burgers! It seemed most of the recipes in the book were just changing the spices, marinades or fillers that accompany the meat. I was looking for creative ideas, not just different tastes to the same old, same old. I really wanted more egg dishes as well. The book will give me some new dinners for a while; however, I will be searching for another cookbook to use.

Summary: helpful and useful
Review: I found this to be a very useful book. It had a lot of variety of recipies to keep the diet interesting. Living in a rural area (very near Barbara), I appreciate that she uses easy to find ingredients. I especially like the oriental meatballs.

Summary: Simple and Tasty
Review: I have been put on a low-carb diet by my gynecologist because I am insulin resistant and have reactive hypoglycemia. I have purchased several cookbooks (including Atkins) and have found the dishes to be too "fancy" for my family's tastes (especially my 9-year-old stepdaughter). BACK TO PROTEIN provides quick, easy and TASTY recipes which the whole family can enjoy. I appreciate the short ingredient lists and the fact that the ingredients can be easily found in my local grocery store. We especially enjoy the ground beef and chicken recipes (mock pizzas and mock lasagna are terrific!) I also love the crock pot recipes for easy end-of-the-day meals!!

I can't wait until Mrs. Doyen writes another cookbook. I'd love to have some more crock pot recipes for chicken and roast beef! Thank you for a terrific cookbook which has made it much easier to follow a low-carb diet. I feel great and it is so easy to stick with my diet when given such a wide variety of meal choices.

Summary: Pleasure Reading!
Review: I have not had the opportunity to explore the vast reaches of this book. But every time I pick a new recipe from it... It is wonderful. The first time I went on the Atkins Diet, I thought I never wanted to see another slab of cream cheese in my life!

As I'm sitting here writing this review I'm sipping a delicious beverage that cannot stop drinking. Absolutely fabulous stuff! Made from roasted soya that you brew like coffee. My doctor said my cholesterol dropped 30 points thanks to this. Look for it online at www.s oycoffee.com.

As for the book, it's pure pleasure reading. Thanks to books like this one, it is becoming a joy to be on a low-carb, high protein diet! In short... BUY IT!

Summary: Great ground beef
Review: I have really enjoyed this cookbook and the great diversity of meat recipes found in it. I especially enjoy all the goundmeat recipes since that has always been my protein standby in raising a family. I like the recipes for hamburgers, but also many other ground beef casserole recipes. I can hardly wait to try the terriyaki recipe as well as the curries and the greenbean casserole. This book will keep me cooking happily and healthily all winter.

Summary: BUY IT...end of story!
Review: I keep this book in my kitchen at all times. So many recipes, so many ideas AND EASY!! There's no need to say more...just buy the book--it's my "meat bible". (Good shrimp recipes & interesting exotic game recipes)
