Rating: Summary: Great Reference Review: I have had an older version of this for 10 years and I love it. I have only made a handful of recipes from it but I use it to look up how to cook things, what to look for when buying a certain item, and for little questions like - do you use the white or green parts of the leeks etc. andhow long to cook eggplant or something I'm not familiar with. It is a great how to reference even for a seasoned cook such as myself.
Rating: Summary: Makes cooking a breeze Review: I have had this book for close to 20 years now. The pictures are really great for not only seeing what the recipe is supposed to look like, but in choosing what to make. I have made many of the recipes in this book and can truely say that I haven't encountered one yet that isn't good.
Rating: Summary: Good all around cookbook Review: I open this whenever I just can't figure out what to cook. It has so many recipes that are easily followed and taste great. I think it's really my favorite cookbook I own.
Rating: Summary: My favorite cookbook Review: I'm buying another one because I've used my old one to death.
I received it as a gift in 1988 and have used it more than any other cookbook I have (and I have a lot!) The great thing is you can try a new recipe for company and be certain it will turn out great!
Rating: Summary: Gotta get this one! Review: If you are just learning as a new wife or as a teenager, this is the book for you. The illustrations help you get over the fear of not knowing the cooking "terminologies". Great pictures, great illustrations, easy to follow instructions. Not only does it help you learn the basics but you get to try out great recipies that look difficult but aren't.
This cookbook makes a great wedding gift or house-warming gift or even a gift for a sister or friend that wants to know your secrets. I have bought 3 of these for myself and have given each one away to help out someone wanting to learn. This book is a great way to introduce cooking to your teenagers so that you can teach them to take care of themselves instead of relying on fast foods.
Rating: Summary: Good Housekeepings Illustrated Cookbook (revised) Review: If you could only buy one cookbook, this should be the one. I refer to it on a daily basis.
Rating: Summary: IT IS COMPLETE !!!! Review: This book has become a family treasure. I have had the book for years and could not find one that competes with it. All the recipes I made turned out just like the picture and tasted delicious, too. All the recipes are pictured, but the pictures are separated from the recipes. All the pictures come in the beginning of the book in beautiful presentation, and then you can look up the recipe in a following page. The recipes are provided with clear instructions and step-by-step illustration. The measurements and cooking times are accurate. There is also a chapter on very useful information including nutrition guide, equivalent amounts, storage guide, eating outdoors, menu planning and entertaining, and a glossary of food and cooking terms. All provided with clear illustration and beautiful photography. I bought this book when I was a beginner. Now, I am an experience cook, but I still amuse my family and friends with dishes from this amazing book. The Chicken Croquette is a top request. The Cannelloni, the Tetrazzini, the Pizza, the Dinner Rolls, the Chocolate-Cinnamon Torte and more, all turned out just yummy.
Rating: Summary: So-So Cookbook Review: This book is so-so. I like that it is illustrated but the dishes are mediocre. The recipes are simple so that is great but often the ingredients or methods are not the best so the dishes don't come out as well as they could. I do like the fact that there are color pictures in the front and the recipes are in the remainder of the book. As an experienced cook, the recipes themselves could be much better. The Good Housekeeping Great Baking book is excellent though. So I can't attribute the deficiencies to the series. This one just misses the mark. Good thing I got it free.
Rating: Summary: This book is the Bomb!!! Review: This Cookbook is the best. It's layout is one that anybody can comprehend. Step by step instructions on how to make anything you would ever need for a party or Thanksgiving dinner. This is alsoo what you need if you are newlyweds and you don't know how to cook. I use it on a daily basis. You will not be disappointed. -RB
Rating: Summary: Wish I could give it 10 STARS! Review: This is a FANTASTIC cookbook. One of my very first cookbooks. ALL of the recipes are great I've made everything from soup to bread in this book. The very best is the shrimp Bisque. Make this for your family and I bet it'll be a new favorite!
