Summary: Lost Art - found!
Review: For those of us who never 'really' learned to cook from watching mom or grandmom, this book is a must. The recipes are simple and easy to follow and yet, your friends will think you've missed your calling as a chef! I've tried many of the recipes and have not had a failure yet, not one. This book makes a great gift for newlyweds, for kids going off to college or to live on their own for the first time, or for those like me who just wanted to know how to make those delicious foods from times past. I've had friends who are long time, good cooks, asking me for 'my' recipes. Now that's a testimony. Buy it and Enjoy!!

Summary: Just like grandma used to make !!!
Review: For years I have been trying to locate my grandmothers recipes. They were not passed down in written form, and my family's rendition just didn't taste the same. The Lost Art of Scratch Cooking has captured my favorite dishes that take me back to summers spent with Grandma. I have continued the tradition of Sunday suppers. My daughters joined me in preparing last Sunday's meal. All the dishes were from this cookbook. We found the meal easy to make, and most recipes included ingredients routinely kept in our kitchen. The potato salad, cole slaw, BBQ sauce for chicken, and sweet potato pie were out of this world! I highly recommend this book to beginners as well as the most experienced cooks.

Summary: A heartfelt introduction to old fashioned Southern cooking
Review: I must agree with the prior reviewer. I purchased this book expecting not only many more recipes than were provided, but I also found the recipes presented were not particularly helpful.This seems almost like an unfinished project rushed to print. In its totality it is closer to those 'theme' cookbooks you can find in tourist traps. It's certainly not worth the price!

Review: It was refreshing to see a book that captured the invaluable lessons that are learned from our Mothers, even in the kitchen. I have found this book to be authentic, user friendly and it makes a good cook out of a not-so-good cook. I was most please to see that the Lost Art of Scratch Cooking captures the culture of African American families for generations. This book makes an excellent gift to anyone and I highly recommend it!

Summary: EXCELLENT GUIDE TO PREPARING OLD FASHIONED SOUTHERN DISHES.
Review: The Lost Art of Scratch Cooking is a collection of my mother's favorite recipes featuring old fashioned southern cooking. My mother perfected her kitchen techniques while growing up in Mississippi and having to care and cook for 18 brother and sisters. She has been cooking for more than sixty years, all of her recipes have been kitchen tested many times over. Scratch cooking is the ability to go into the kitchen and make a meal from what is available i.e. take available ingredients and scratch out a meal. This book provides a step by step outline of how you too can master the art of Scratch Cooking. Prepare yourself for an experience that is steeped in tradition and good taste.

Summary: very disapointed
Review: the reviews lured me into buying this book-reading it made me return it--the recipes mentioned on the book back cover are NOT in the book. It is not worth the 17$ it cost(that includes the shipping)- I will be more careful in the future about depending on the book reviews.
