Rating: Summary: Real bible Review: It is one of the best cook's books ever. I have tried nearly all the recepies and all the soups were wery tasty. What I specially like about it is that the author goes with her recepies all over the world. All the recepies are very authentic to their home country and with preparing the food according to them you can make small journeys from Thailand over the Russia to France ... .
Rating: Summary: A great beginner's book Review: The main strength of this cookbook is its beautiful pictures of soups, followed by the wide variety of soup recipes. It has plenty of recipes that I, who knows nothing of soup making, recognize and make with great success. There is also several recipes that I've never heard of and hope to work up to. As you can see from the contents page, there are many light soups, rich cream soups, hearty soups, and special occasion soups. It has something for everyone on every day. It even makes note of how to convert many recipes to vegan.
Rating: Summary: Soup's On! Review: The Soup Bible is a wonderful collection of soup recipes divided into six sections: light & refreshing, rich & creamy, warming winter, hearty lunch, one-pot-meals, and special occasion. The variety is excellent, and there are soups from around the world. The front section on making stocks is very helpful as it includes not only the standard vegetable, chicken and meat stocks, but also fish stock and stocks for Chinese and Japanese cooking.
Each recipe comes with beautiful end-result pictures as well as pictures of some of the steps involved. The directions are clear and simple. Many of the recipes come with suggestions for variations and all of the vegetarian selections are marked. Most of the soups use easy-to-find ingredients, but the exceptions often have tips on where to find the unfamiliar items.
I've tried several of the recipes with no problems and delicious results. One of my personal favorites is the Tomato and Blue Cheese Soup. I'm looking forward to cooking and eating my way through these soups.
Rating: Summary: Really Well Done Review: The Soup Bible is an excellent collection of soup recipes. It offers recipes for a wide range of soups including both standard Euro/American fare as well as some interesting ones from more exotic places. Mayhew's recipes are very clearly written so you don't feel like you're studying for finals before you attempt them. Also, these recipes don't require you to hunt down ridiculously expensive or hard-to-find ingredients. I've made quite a few of the soups in this book and all have been real successes.

Rating: Summary: Excellent collection Review: This book had and excellent collection of soups! I could even find a few south Indian soups in it and I was amazed. It has clear step by step directions with illustrations, so even a beginner will find it easy. Its a useful book to have in Ur kitchen!
Rating: Summary: The Soup Bible rocks Review: This book is an *extremely* detailed and easy-to-follow recipe book. Although I think it is British-influenced and sometimes calls for ingredients with unusual names, it is easy to figure out what they mean. The book also has fabulous colour photographs -- 2 to 5 for every recipe -- to give you ideas of what your work should look like, every step of the way. I have yet to have a failed meal produced by this book. Purchase it if you have a chance, and enjoy!
