Summary: Cooking fun for the whole family
Review: I love cookbooks so when this came out on the market, I thought "Sure, I'll bite," but I didn't except any of the recipes to taste like the real thing. That was before I made the Chick-Fil-a and the Wendy's Frosty. These 2 recipes were really great and became favorites in my household. The next couple of recipes I tried, LJS Battered Fish and KFC Original weren't as dead on as the other two were, but they were tasty dishes nonetheless. I haven't tried every recipe in the book so I can't say what the ratio is to real versus Top Secret, but I did enjoy this book enough to buy the rest of the set.

Summary: Todd Wilbur is KING!
Review: I made my own Twinkies and Reese's cups!! They were pretty darn close, that's good enough for me because everything was delicious!! (My hips aren't crazy about the book.) It's fun to impress people as well as make their mouths water when you tell them what you have accomplished. If you like to have fun in the kitchen, this book will not disappoint you. Then again, I do not know you. Enjoy!! :o)

Summary: A goldmine (But you won't be cooking "from scratch")
Review: I really loved the cookbook. The only objection I had was that a lot of recipes were made from cake mixes and the like. For me, that spoils the point. The whole idea of cooking things myself is so they will be fresher and more wholesome. I would have liked the book better if he called for more actual ingredients (flour, sugar) but if you don't mind using mixes, I think you will have no objections at all.

Summary: Too much hassle for a Twinkie Clone
Review: Some of the recipes in this book are easy to make and delicious--Mrs. Field's Cookies, Orange Julius, Dairy Queen Blizzard, Twix Bars, to name a few. But I balked when reading the "how-to's" of Homemade Twinkies. Who has time to roll tin foil around spice jars to use as a mold for the cake batter? Then the boring task of poking holes into each individual "Twinkie" and filling them up with whipped cream. I can't imagine wanting more than a couple Twinkies a year, anyway, and this recipe makes a whole bunch. However, this IS a fun book, and I imagine parents would have a great time whipping these treats up with their kids.

Summary: How One Man *Thinks* Fast Food *Tastes*
Review: The title of this book piqued my interest. I had the impression that Wilbur (the author) spent his hours masquerading himself as a mild-mannered hamburger griller, sneaking into popular eateries, and stealing away with the official formulas -- all for the dining pleasure of his readers. I was wrong.

This book is a collection of Wilbur's *interpretation* of secret recipes. The premise is that Wilbur, inspired by the Neiman Marcus/Mrs. Fields $250 cookie recipe urban myth, set out to re-create his favorite restaurant and fast food favorites. That's quite an undertaking to say the least.

I guess my big problem is this: I wound up buying a cookbook of how one man *thinks* fast food *tastes.*

What redeems the book is that his recipes are pretty good -- and surprisingly accurate.

Here are a few notes: 1.) There is a lot of regional fast food cuisine in here. (I'm from New Jersey and I didn't recognize many of the fast food places.)

2.) Almost all of the recpies are accompanied by a hand-drawn picture (by Wilbur) of the correct food assembly. Although the drawings were quite primitive, they did the job. My food really *looked* correct -- all I needed was a paper napkin and plastic fork to go with it.

3.) I suppose this goes without saying but -- This is not a book for either the truly health conscious or anyone on a special (e.g. vegetarian, vegan, kosher) diet.

4.) Families may enjoy this book as moms/dads can handle the preparation and kids can deal with the assembly.

Bon appetit!

Summary: The secrets are out, and delicious ones they are.
Review: This book is a absolute must have for those of you that love to experiment in the kitchen. Its totally exciting to create these cloned treats, but more so to see if any one can tell the difference. I've tried Mrs.Fields Chocolate Chip Cookies,Hostess Twinkies, the Twix bars, and the Snickers bars. They taste the same as their original siblings. But what makes this book really great is the short historys of the recipes. It so interesting to read how they came about!

Summary: Good Approximations, But Some Recipes Miss the Mark
Review: This book is a great way to create some pretty close "secret recipes." I have enjoyed many of the recipes and the history lessons. There is to much emphasis on how to stack the condiments on a burger the correct way for my tastes, but my kids have enjoyed not buying out to see how close that we can come to "the real thing." This has has saved money and added some quality family time. Laure'
